Another's Arms

Featured Replies

And people criticize 'Magic's' lyrics? "late night watching tv"? "your body on my body"? This song stunned me, and not in a good way. Really hoping the album version is better. Midnight is growing on me though, especially hearing it live.

Lyrics:

Late night watching TV,

used to be you here beside me,

used to be your arms around me,

your body on my body.

When the pin just rips right through me,

Another's arms, another's arms,

When the world means nothing to me,

Another's arms, another's arms,

Late night watching TV,

used to be you here beside me,

Is there someone there to reach me?

someone there to find me...

When the world just splits right through me,

Another's arms, another's arms,

It's just touching through me,

Another's arms, another's arms,

Got to put yourself into it,

Another's arms, another's arms,

Love means nothing to me,

Another's arms, another's arms...

Got to put yourself into me,

Another's arms, another's arms,

Put yourself right through me,

Another's arms, another's arms,

Late night watching TV,

wish that you were here beside me,

wish that your arms were around me,

your body on my body.

I'm sure the studio version of this and Always in my head will sound better....I just remember a lot of people hated midnight until they heard it live....

Yeah the lyrics sound cheesy and weird.

My favorite until now, kind of disappointed with all the other songs (I like midnight too, but the rest is meeeeeeh, ok)

The intro had hope in it but later on it was nothing special. Poor lyrics and average melody. So far they look below their standards.

Okay so I am late to the party but I have to say I absolutely LOVE Another's Arms. I watched the non-HD first and thought wow, this is special. Then I watched the HD and I was moved to tears! This song is really beautiful and I don't care about the lyrics. The buildup, the Johnny awesomeness, that woman's voice, the mellowness of it. Everything.

Best Ghost Story so far. \o/

superb song

It reminds me of PoC the first time we heard it, I don't know why. I just hope that they don't ruin it with Miley Cyrus singing the vocals or something like that.

Paradise = Another's Arms > poop > Princess Of China

Lyrically talking, and the rhythm and arrangements of music is way off to that of POC, so no, I don't think it's similar in any way to Princess Of China

It reminds me a ton of Yes off of VLVODAAHF... super sexy. Me gusta.

It does for me too! I blame the sexual lyrics, and the amazing guitar. Fuck, Jonny's part was so great.

Cheesy lyrics? Cheesy lyrics? After the abomination of Princess of China? He loves a refrain does Chris but I can't complain about the lyrics anymore than I can complain about the lyrics in Magic - they are minimalist and unspectacular but the music surrounding it is outstanding. It's good to know that Guy still exists and he seems present in Coldplay again after going missing for many years. Another's Arms is a smooth, dark, sensuous song and these new songs are a nice ambient filled antidote to the sickly mess of Mylo Xyloto. Here's hoping for more of the same in Ghost Stories.

But who cares about the lyrics when you got that haunting ghost voice in the background and a lot of Chris's epic piano playing and Jonny's kick-ass guitar riffs? It's just, boom. And the lyrics are not even that bad; at least not at bad as that song with rihanna. I can't see why would anyone dislike this song.

Because the lyrics suck

I have not noticed before but Always in my head has super simple lyrics as well, so not seeing why Another´s arms should be deemed cheesier? I think all the songs so far fit the bill of simple direct lyrics (except Midnight perhaps, they are bit more intricate/symbolic?)

It's not that I dislike the lyrics because they are simple, I just don't like them. That they're simple is just a coincidence.

This song is weird. I really dislike the first half, but after Jonny comes in, the song really improves. But it still doesn't make up for the beginning.

This song's lyrics are quite bad. I want lyrics that are meaningful and profound like What If, Fix you, Moving To Mars, and if they can't be that, then they at least shouldn't sound cheesy. When I hear these lyrics it makes me want to roll my eyes.

I also really hate the woman singing in the background.

Coldplay is really relying too much on backing tracks, it's kinda pissing me off.

I mean what's the point of playing something live if it's just going to keep playing after you leave? *Jonny playing piano during Magic*.

MX was good-great.

As of now GS seems like it's going to be meh-ok depending on how the other songs sound.

I just find Always in my head can be deemed just as cheesy ? I mean they are both simple love songs, as Magic is I suppose as well.

That's your opinion.

That's your opinion.

Haha well that goes without saying...what I want to know is WHY people find Another´s Arms cheesier :) Any of you can elaborate why exactly? :)

I'm pretty sure people found lyrics on MX disappointing when those songs came out, now it's happening all over again. I'm guessing the purpose of such vague lyrics and repetition is to draw attention to the arrangements which will hopefully be more fleshed out in the studio version.

I've seen quite a lot of disapproval of the mention of tv in a song - I don't know, I mean, television has been around for quite a while and became a very regular part of everyday life? I'd understand more if it was something like 'podcast' or 'Bluetooth'.

Nearly the only thing I disliked is that the song could do with guitar instead of the female vocal sample but I got around even that after listening to it for 60 or so times :escaping:

Like I said, it has nothing to do with lyrics being simple. The reason I dislike Another's Arms lyrics is that they are bad and they don't fit the melody at all. It's not just the lyrics though, the first two minutes of the song (apart from the intro): boring. And Will's drumming annoys me (too noticeable in comparison with the other instruments) but my opinion on that might change when I hear the album version.

"television selling plastic figurines of leaders, saying nothing at all"

I liked MX lyrics, but the new songs are just silly
