Yeah I'll get to preordering the album on vinyl eventually and I'll torrent the digital one in FLAC probably. I'm just lazy.

Urgh where do I start.

 

9 new songs really without the pointless instrumentals. Some songs sound too similar to older Coldplay songs. Amazing Day sounds like a cover of a much better song. So much of it sounds familiar.

 

I felt Ghost Stories was a step forward from the disappointment of M.X. But that album is still much better than this failed disco of an album. A lot of it just sounds like the music teenybopper kids would make in their bedroom.

 

If Coldplay released this after Rush or Viva it would have damaged their career. But as commercial music is so terrible, samey, uninspired....these days it just fits right in.

 

Thank God Radiohead has an album out hopefully next year. At least they try and make good music and aren't bothered to conform and aren't afraid it won't fit in on commercial radio playlists.

 

Viva is still the peak of their powers for me. I'd like to hear the demos from this album before all the over-production.

 

End of rant but at least we have the monkey video!

Stargate were the producers of the album. Most people who are unhappy are complaining about the producing. Songs like Up&Up that sounded amazing at the TIDAL concert are "over-produced" on the album.

Well, live is always better with those "stadium bands".

High Points : A Head Full Of Dreams, Bird, Amazing Day, Fun (best duet from a Coldplay album, awesome guitar) Up & Up. Seems a longer album than Ghost Stories and Mylo Xyloto. Production flawless. Have some of the best work from Jonny Buckland and Guy Berryman. The beginning of Hymn For The Weekend Some mind blowing epic songs.

 

Low Points : X Marks The Spot, Everglow (they already done THOUSANDS of songs like this, nothing new here) Hymn For The Weekend being on a Coldplay album, the way Bird ends.

 

Overall I think it's their best album since Viva because even the worst songs of it are better than the worst and so-so songs from Ghost Stories and Mylo Xyloto.

It's their poppiest album to date, there is nothing straight rock in here like Major Minus in MX or Ghost Story in GS. But it have one of their best songs to date like Bird (very Strokes,U2 like) and Up&Up which are pretty epic. One of their best openers with a AHFOD. I really like it. The best songs from this album compensate the worst on it.

I didn't know that. I got that off the Coldplay store and then bought the CD off the UK Amazon store, but that won't get delivered til sometime around the 15th. So sweet!

I don't think most people dislike it, it's a minute long pleasant interlude with angelic voices which I'm quite fond of pesonally, it's just that when asked to name the weakest songs people choose this and Kaleidoscope because they're the shortest.

I like all the songs more with the detailed production than the live versions, it's half the appeal to me in this case.

 

BTW the torrent HQ versions are STILL not the best quality available because it's transcoded so the final versions are going to sound EVEN BETTER. :dazzled:

I just noticed something interesting. It is v much possible that the background voices that we hear in COLOUR SPECTRUM are all the songs of the album excluding UP&UP. Fits with the whole completion of something thingy too.

 

Pls check and tell me if you guys hear all the songs of the album in CS too.
