Birds (Song and Video out now Jan 2) pg 17 for Vid

Featured Replies

I read The Conference of Birds yesterday. It is presumably the book which inspired this song.

In the poem, the birds of the world gather to decide who is to be their king, as they have none. The hoopoe, the wisest of them all, suggests that they should find the legendary Simorgh, a mythical Persian bird roughly equivalent to the western phoenix. The hoopoe leads the birds, each of whom represent a human fault which prevents man from attaining enlightenment. When the group of thirty birds finally reach the dwelling place of the Simorgh, all they find is a lake in which they see their own reflection.

The birds must cross seven valleys in order to find the Simorgh:

Yearning

Love

Knowledge of Spiritual Truth

Detachment

Unity of God

Bewilderment

Selflessness

Nice find, would be really cool if that was the inspiration behind Birds !

After hearing these lyrics, I have really high hopes for this song and I feel like this song will show why I fell in love with Coldplay. The small parts of lyrics are so beautiful, and Chris sings it so beautiful as well.

Up In Flames, Fly On, the single cover for Magic... haha is the "up" song or "bird" song a new tradition?

Speed Of Sound too.. "Birds can fly at the speed of sound.. Etc.."

Hmm makes me wonder if Coldplay has any birds as pets??

I also wonder if they also have monkeys or elephants as pets?

Oh yeah, Coldplay have ever got a song called 'Animals' back in the day so we can all predict Coldplay love animals so much.

Just one thing.. Kid A (album) feelings from radiohead *-----*

Seriously though, I'm laughing right nao

I really can't tell much from that little snippet... So I won't really judge. The vocals don't seem amazing to me, the music seems good? The make it or break it of a song to me is usually the melody so yeah.

Well, that wasn't at all what I expected! It's too small of a clip to really judge yet, but I thought the bass part was pretty cool.

very interesting snippet! although it doesn't fit that much with what we heard from the acoustic session... was it really the same song?

not at all. that snippet was mistaken by some idiot who didn't notice that us against the world had the same melody.

Well yeah but I mean the lyrics had to be from somewhere, and if you listen the lyrics definitely did not have the same melody...

Sounds verrry interesting.

Chris Martin playing with a sample machine  , his vocals are cool – talking low/whispering. You definitely can hear some reminiscence of Brian Eno’s ambient noises.

after the verse we heard I expect a chorus like rainy day, with davide rossi's violins... it must be more various than this I guess

Hope so! That sounds heavenly [emoji7]

I think this might be a good track, judging from the snippet. It sounds the most...indie of all.

Sound like radiohead. I Like that sound of cold, experimenting something experimental. That is cool

I feel the snippet will suddenly burst into a huge drop and then followed by some HLH kind of music. This will be like HLH or DLIBYH for sure.

Wow.. for me this snippet is far from anything from mylo. Sounds a lot more experimental than mylo

Im really wanting that birds be really something more unique in cold discografy. Like Chris said, now there are no limits. I like that thought, it makes me think that they can do anything since cheesy pop to something like Kid a or the king of limbs from radiohead, and that ideia its awsome, gives me hope for the future of the band
