The AHFOD Leak Thread (LEAK CONFIRMED - NO PM REQUESTS OR LINKS!)

The Fir Trees

Yeah, Ghost Stories leaked just a few days before retail. It leaked because someone grabbed a physical copy from a shop which had started stocking it. Honestly, I'm expecting the same this time around.

About a decade ago albums would leak months in advance, because album leaks were relatively new phenomenon and labels weren't sure how to combat it. Nowadays labels, particularly big ones like Warner, are very strict and careful to make sure albums don't leak. They probably have entire divisions devoted to it. So I wouldn't get your hopes up this time around, guys.

I remember MX leaked on Monday 17th October, few days before the Japan and Australian release. Worldwide release of MX was a week later though. Also GS leaked just a few days before the release. I think they kind of covered leak then with streaming the album officially on itunes.

But yes, the truth is that albums by artists like Coldplay don't get leaked so easily these days. They only get leaked when the physical copies of albums are being delivered.

So if AHFOD is released officially on Friday 4th December, i'd see it a bit surprising if it gets leaked before the start of December. Still i wouldn't be too surprised if leak happens next week, but it's unlikely.

Parlophone and Warner Music Group do go to great lengths to protect the albums!

I can confirm how they do this in a recent article I did for the Coldplay Collectors Community below... Thought it was applicable and something you might enjoy reading, considering the 'LEAK HUNT' is on ;)

Also, I have the MX Ablum Promo which was sent to radio stations etc... and is similar to this.

Today I want to share with you one of the rarest and highly sought after Coldplay promo's which I have in my collection.

Title: Coldplay, X & Y (Promo)

Serial # / UPC: “The Fir Trees, Album” CD-R Acetate

This promo was manufactured and released only to the media in the UK, 2005. It was titled “The Fir Trees, Album” to disguise what the CD actually contained (X & Y Album). Parlophone went to great lengths to make sure this advanced copy of the album would not be uploaded to the internet and leaked before its release date. Each CD had to be signed for by the person of the media who was receiving it. It also contains the name of the person it was created for. Because of the steps taken for security, not many of the “Fir Trees” promos are available. Many of the media who received a copy often destroyed it after use so that it was not passed on, otherwise this could potentially damage their reputation. Therefore I have had to 'black out' the person of the media whom mine was given too for these very reasons. I have also had to watermark my photos, to avoid forgers producing copies.

It is a very rare advanced promo CD. This copy has a very low production number (#0003).

Here are some links to Music Review Web Sites discussing the “X & Y, Fir Trees promo” which might interest you about the CD and its history.

My personal favourite extract is from the NME article and the steps which had to be taken in order for them to get the CD. This would have been the same steps taken for the person who received mine;

To get this CD to NME, the label employed a special envoy who flew with a sealed parcel to Belfast where it was slowly slipped over the table in a city centre hotel. The name Coldplay appeared nowhere – it was marked simply ‘The Fir Trees album’ and even the track titles were adjusted. NME had to sign to a letter promising not to let anyone look at the record pre-release, never mind hear it, on pain of a slow, medieval death.

From what we were able to saw from Zane Lowe's interview to Chris last year, nowadays they do not even distribute CDs but simply allow selected people to log in into a webpage were the album is uploaded just for the purposes of listening. The recipient never has access to the actual file containing the music.

Yes, the last few albums have leaked. Some a few days before and some a month before, but they all leaked. GS was a bit of a strange one having leaked only a few days before.

The story goes that someone in Vancouver was at a store that sold the vinyl/CD early by mistake I was actually part of the group that tried to teach the girl how to rip/record and to coordinate Vancouver coldplayers to that store. I remember eventually though that the whole album, save the bonus tracks, were available via iTunes stream anyways. They don't usually put the whole album online available to stream iirc. GS was the first time I remember them doing this.

Viva leaked in a Justin Timberlake forum lol

Don't remember mx for some reason.

That's partially why this thread is being made now. Cause we are right in the window of opportunity where leaks could happen.

but like FOP^ said, labels are getting a bit smarter about it and leaks are harder to come by. There is no guarantee it will leak at all. This thread is only valid for the duration of the countdown. After which it won't be a leak anymore; just that someone uploaded the album online. And of course we won't be sharing that info either.

I remember that during the GS leak hunting period, a shop called Blokker here in the Netherlands had GS in their flyer. They didn't mention the release date but the small print on the back said that the offers in the flyer were already valid. So I reported it in the thread and told people I would try to get my hands on the album. I went to three diffrent Blokker shops and when I came back empty handed, everyone in the thread went crazy because of the possibility that GS may leak and there were like 50 PM's in my inbox asking if my hunt was succesful. :laugh3:

AHFOD: Leak Hunting Thread (Status: No Leak Reported)

^ You have to remember though that X&Y was the most hyped-up, I-need-to-get-my-hands-on-it-now album of all Coldplay's releases (at least, that's what I gather from all the articles and stuff written about it, plus the stuff with The Fir Trees). It followed ARoBttH, the out-of-nowhere masterpiece that did well both in number of sales and number of awards. After three years, people were ready to explode about it.

Of course, there has been similar hype since for all of Coldplay's albums, but I think X&Y was still the biggest :P

Where was I going with this . . . oh yeah. Anyway, I can definitely see us getting the album in the days before the official drop date. Theoretically, since AHFoD is following really closely on the heels of a not-very-heavily-promoted album, the world may not be as hyped up about it and the security may be a bit more lax than the X&Y days.

I'm sure there are some logical flaws there, but it's early and I don't wanna go to class :P

Well good for Adele! Every album's leak situation is different. Just because 25 didn't leak doesn't mean AHFOD won't.

Interesting. Does that mean people have the album already or did they just get to listen to new songs? For some reason it wouldn't let me embed but here is the tweet https://twitter.com/danaebrielle/status/666472021665026049

yeah, I think embedding tweets isn't enabled for all users by default.

Back to the tweet itself; I think someone in the LP7 thread tried to make contact but to no avail.

I'm not sure what the demographic for the Ellen show is, but I don't think they're exactly tech savy ppl who would leak it for us via a torrent or something....

youre not a middle aged white mom?

Ummm... No... Is there sarcasm there?Maybe this is a community of middle aged white moms and I'm out of place. But oh well I still like Coldplay just the same. And wow quite tech savvy middle aged white moms while I'm at it.

To put it into perspective, my mom is a little older than middle aged white mom.
