I ran away
This opinion is likely to be pretty unpopular on this board and seemingly in the music industry altogether, but I was hoping throughout the entire electoral season that Coldplay would not endorse or speak politically. I cannot stand when entertainers become political, and to me, their opinions on that subject matter couldn't be any less welcome. I love Coldplay pretty much more than anything, and I know that in the back of my mind we probably have incredibly different views on politics, but I just prefer it to not even come up because it will leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Yes, I respect other viewpoints, but entertainers should as well -- in fact they should just not say anything regarding politics and stick to promoting their music if they are to say anything, or talk about the charities they support. I tend to be more liberal on subjects such as marijuana legalization, gay marriage, etc, but I am extremely conservative when it comes to fiscal policy, government spending and programs, border protection and foreign policy. I am so fucking tired of this narrative that Trump is pretty much Satan, which is being spewed by mass media because the media didn't get what it wanted. Trump is far from a perfect candidate, but Clinton is the definition of a criminal, and by all accounts if she weren't married to Bill, she would be in prison. Clinton is also the definition of a shady two-faced politician, and if her track record as Secretary of State is anything to go on, a Clinton presidency would be disastrous. After the scandals she has been involved in with the Clinton Foundation, and the private server, as well as her failed foreign policy, how could any American in his or her sane mind actually think she is a viable candidate and vote for her? It's beggar's belief. Trump has a big mouth and says things he shouldn't. I'd imagine he will tone this down. The media tried so, so, so hard to paint him as a wild, out of control maniac, but I just don't buy it, and clearly neither do many Americans. He's egotistical, he is arrogant, he is a loud mouth, but he speaks his mind and tells it like it is -- something politicians are terrified to do. We've had eight years of a "nice guy" president that was supposed to unite the country and bring it back from the awful, despicable Satanist Republicans and all we have to show for it is 0% interest rates, a sputtering economy that has never found its footing, ObamaCare which is on the brink of failure, and a country that is as divided as it ever has been. Obama was supposed to be the key to ending division and would most certainly pump the economy back to life. It hasn't happened, and for his first term he had a control of the house and senate to put through pretty much anything he wanted. To think that Trump, who can't be blamed for ANY of the past eight years or the current state of the country, can do worse or is somehow responsible for this charlie foxtrot is absolutely asinine and the narrative that the mainstream media would love for the every day American to believe. I am sure this post will rub plenty on this forum the wrong way, but this is my opinion, this is what I believe, and you can flame me all you want, but I'll still respect others opinions, and Viva Coldplay. Hi, funnily enough, I don't think you will see anyone of us flame you. We discuss respectfully, we don't insult. One of the many things that makes us different from the very person you are defending in your post. I actually personally like it when musicians/artists show some engagement and outspokenness in political issues, and/or raise public awareness for societal or environmental issued. I also think that Coldplay is not at all outspoken; they usually only vaguely endorse notions that almost anybody would agree with amd don't seem to want to alienate anyone, so they are silent about anything controversial. I think they used to have more of an edge earlier (Iraq War protest, or see what they wrote in the AROBTTH booklet about fair trade). As for the elections, well I have to say we seem to be on opposing ends of the political spectrum (I am not conservative at all) but I do agree that Clinton was a corrupt and unlikeable candidate (I wish they had chosen Bernie), and that Obama's presidency was an utter disappointment (and by far not as peaceful as he wanted to make us believe, see the escalated drone war). Like I said in posts above, if I had to make a choice, I'd have voted a third party candidate, namely Jill Stein. If a Trump presidency would mean a more isolationist stance in terms of military actions in the world, that would for me be the only good thing to come out of it, because no problem in the last 70 years has ever been solved by sending American troops anywhere, to put it very mildly. On the contrary, these senseless wars have been the root of a lot of instability in the world, not to mention the loss of millions of civilian lives and I don't know how many troops' lives, too. So I'd be all for military isolationism. But I could never, ever, EVER support everything else Trump stands for - racism, sexism, discrimination, gun deregulation, carelessness about the environment and cluelessness about science, you name it ! You might say a lot of it was just campaign talk, and he's not gonna do half of what he boldly announced. This may be so (and I am fairly certain it will, because he already unashamedly lied during the campaign, on numerous occasions....), but still, there are things a decent person should never speak out aloud, and this man has spoken all of them. Just my two cents !

To be fair, we really don't know if Clinton or Trump would be the better president. Both of them have different downsides, but that doesn't mean that I'm just going to give Trump a pass. The only positives I see about Trump is that he is anti TPP, he doesn't want to get rid of Social Security (as far as I'm aware of) like most other Republicans do, he doesn't seem to be as warmongering as other leaders (although this may change, we'll see). I'm just hoping for the best during this presidential term.
YeahWeDo_YeahWeDo
I've just realised that I told a friend we can meet on November 19, I'll miss Coldplay at global citizen! This week has been so difficult that I've forgotten so many important things, not just about Coldplay but about things related to my family, school and friends. My mood has been a little bit down for so many reasons. At the same time I have this feeling of not wanting to feel this way. I try to cheer myself up thinking on the amazing things I have in my life. But, this feeling always came back. Maybe you know me as someone who always tries to be positive, but this time I fail to do so. Perhaps that's why it makes me feel a little bit frustrated about everything around me. Anyways I want to share with you something I wrote somewhere else and that I will read from time to time to remind myself to never give up. Sometimes I believe I write things for someone else, but maybe I write those things for myself: It was a weird week. On Monday I had this feeling I can't describe, maybe I was angry or sad, I don't know. On Thursday I was expecting something good, but that didn't happen. Or at least not on the way I wanted that to happen. I saw the world divided but all united for one purpose: we all want change. However, we need to start looking for the right answer instead of choosing a desperate way to make things work. I'm sure there are different forms to help the world be a better one because I've seen lots of people being so kind and understanding. I've seen people making some change through love. I have faith in humanity. Thousands of people supporting those who are around them, it doesn't matter their gender, social status, skin color, they just want to listen to what they have to say. In difficult times it's too hard to find positivity. But I ask you to be grateful for what you have on your life, family, friends, a home, a flower because there are people who doesn't have that. You can help others by being kind to each other, supporting others, doing your best at school or work. I won't give up and I don't want you to give up. I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling sad. But I can relate to what you're describing. I often have got these phases which you are describing. Sometimes this mood just stays for one day and sometimes it stays for a whole week or even longer. In my opinion you are doing the right thing. Thinking of the good things in life and being grateful for the smallest things. And it is okay to have these phases and we shouldn't blame ourselves. Realizing that you're feeling low is the fist step and I'm pretty sure that there will be brighter days ;-) So keep your head up and enjoy this wonderful adventure!

Thank you so much for your kind words :) I need to learn that. At the moment I can't help but feeling frustrated for that. I'm feeling better now. Although I don't feel ready to go with my friends. I don't see them that often, but my mood won't let me enjoy the reunion, or maybe i'll change my mind when I meet them, who knows. Anyways, "life has a beautiful crazy design" and I have many things to look forward to.

I know what you mean, I'm usually a positive person as well but sometimes you just can't see the good things, no matter how hard you try. I sometimes really hate that cause I think "I don't want to be like this, I want to be happy again and it's just about your view so it's my fault". But it's totally okay and normal to feel like that sometimes. No matter how optimistic you are, life is always good and not so good things. But the most important thing to remember is that those times will always pass. Maybe you don't feel better the day after but you will always feel better again. Life is beautiful in all its colors, even the darker ones, they're here for a reason. (No, I will never stop quoting this:P) I recently had a time like this but now I feel so much better. I hope you'll feel better again soon as well, I know you'll get through it. And I hope your friends will understand and you'll get to watch the concert!

Just my two cents ! @I ran away, thank you for reminding me how we respond here to others opinions. I have said to my husband many times, and been vocal here, (your paragraph abour Trump pretty much says it better than I put it), "How could anyone overlook these things about him? What werer they thinking?" I thank Coldplayer 1984 for one of the best-written, personally honest answers to that question. I understand your rationale, even though my views may be very different. You helped me understand. This past week, I have read or watched whatever I can to try to see where this "movement" came from. Watching Trump on 60 Minutes last night reminded me of a side of him I saw when he used to have The Apprentice show. He is capable of much more rationally stating his views. While candid, he would also not stand for mean behavior from celebreties on his show (well, there is Omarosa....WHAT??) Yet, there is simply no arguing with the fact that his supporters bet the country's future on the least qualified, prepared candidate ever. As a Human Resources and Learning professional by career, I am blown away that the position of leader of our nation is not rooted in qualifications or competencies. That is not how any informed business hires people. So I blame our election process for what just happened, not any individual voter. In fact, in made me sad to read how many voters were afraid to tell people they supported him. He may have some good qualities. I just cannot ever support someone who treats peopls as he does. alisbe
Update: my friend just told me we won't meet because of the weather. We were supposed to travel to a nice place but it's been raining since the beginning of November. Anyways, I feel relieved I didn't have to say I didn't want to go. At the same time I feel sad because I don't know if will have another opportunity to meet again. Anyways, I have a lot of things to do to keep myself busy. Moreover, hopefully (if we find a stream) I'll watch the concert with all of you :)

If I could I would definitely have taken all the rain away from you so I could have it yet you wouldn't! Hopefully I'm around for the concert this time...

I'm looking forward to the concert because this week has been a good one and this will help me to finish it in a good way :)
