I've got a rather unpopular opinion as I think X&Y is by far their best. I'm not a huge Parachutes fan either but I still think MX is their worst to date.

Every album has a weak point. Think and voice what you want but it wont change the fact that every album they have released has been critically claimed good.

MX. This better not be their last album because they can do better!

Parachutes definitely is not.

X&Y is Coldplay's worst album.

 

It's thematically messy, it's sonically messy and it's the most try hard the band has ever been. They really went for that U2 epic alt-rock band title and failed horribly. I've heard the band went through a tough time then too, and I think it shows.

 

It's no coincidence they completely reinvented themselves after X&Y. And thank God they did.

 

X&Y is not only a bad Coldplay album, I think it is a bad album full stop.

 

Fix You is a masterpiece though. So props for that.

^ X&Y has some really really really nice songs on it. But The Hardest Part ruined it.

I wouldn't call this thier "worst" but if I have to pick my least favorite CP album, it's X&Y. It's pretty good and has some very good songs but it's very inconsistent as a whole album, not to mention the lyrics are pretty lacking.

Yup. Kiame might be the best person on the face of the Earth and maybe in the whole universe. Tied with Glork-B-Jork from the Andromeda galaxy for that one :nod:

I voted for Viva La Vida. It just doesn't flow right with me and I really don't like the long, hidden track business. I love Chinese Sleep Chant and it's annoying that it's not on the official listing.

 

On the other end of the spectrum, X&Y is my favourite album and the B-sides from that era are amazing. 'Things I Don't Understand' is great.

^ I agree that the B-sides for X&Y are awesome. Gravity is one of my favorite songs ever.

If the b-sides were on the actual album, X&Y would have been a much better album.

Shiver and Politik will always be their best songs.

 

I don't hate anything on MX (Paradise comes close) like I do Swallowed In The Sea.

Either X&Y or MX. Id say MX edges it.

I think this thread should be titled 'weakest' not 'worst'.

 

Parachutes has the least amount of my favourite songs on it, but it's not the worst in terms of quality or consistency. So I would pick X&Y if I could change my vote. Even though it's my second favourite album overall, I feel it's the weakest in terms of a complete listen from start to finish.

I can't really take part in this poll, there's no such thing as the worst Coldplay album! But I voted for Viva La Vida, as I guess it's my least favourite.

probably X & Y but its not the worst just the weakest and least memorable.

I can say that their worst album is LP6 because it has not been released yet.

I think the earlier albums are "worse" then the modern albums, but their all so good, none of them are bad. xandy is my favorite though. No eno, but they had resources :D

X&Y is their weakest album... still I like it :P

I don't dislike any of them, but I think X&Y was a bit too hectic for my liking, it's like the tracks were just thrown in but the songs are just brilliant. I think the best is either AROBTH for the musicality and MX for the production.
