A Sky Full Of Stars!! (only R1 links)

Generic? So what? It's a good pop/house song. perfect hit single

Sorry, i havent read the last couple of pages, is it true that the album version of A Sky Full Of Stars will be remixed by avicii and sound like in the preview video?

I'm not gonna lie, but for me this is one of those that I'm going to skip when listening to the album. Kind of like I do with Paradise. One of the reasons I like Coldplay so much is because they refrain from EDM (it makes me feel different as it's what most people my age listen to on a regular basis), but Avicii has probably ruined a song that could have had so much potential as the lyrics and vocals are simply undeniable. Another thing is just by hearing it, I know it's gonna force the better (IMO) songs out of the way in terms of radio play and such :( Damn, the amount of anticipation I had built up for this song too...

It's not a remix he actually produced it.

But this is the ONLY album version, there will be no version without Avicii?

It sounds pretty "mainstreamish" but im surprised that i like it pretty much. I was allready surprised when i heard it in cologne.

Btw the video linked here is sped up.. its like 2 times as fast as normal o_O

Lol so? Mainstream doesn't automatically = bad.

There's good pop music, and there's bad pop music.

Pop music doesn't automatically = bad, I know it's a 'cool' trend right now to say you 'hate pop music',

but c'mon man, music is too important to shun an entire genre before you give it a proper listen.

Avicii co-made the song, as I understand it. I'm sure he'll probably make his own remixes, but that's just my guessing, so don't hold me to that.

Chris did say in the interview that he loves the EDM-type of music though. Personally I like it too, and love the more upbeat type songs, as well as the slower ones.

Chris explains this better than I could:

"I love the quiet, heart-breaky songs, but I love the euphoria, the togetherness. It's like, life is so scary - there's planes going missing, there's people getting shot, there's wars going on. It's like, anytime you can get thousands of people in a field jumping up and down, that is the most beautiful feeling." - Chris Martin (Zane Lowe Interview, BBC Radio 1)

The song is co-produced by Avicii, it would be impossible to have a "non-Avicii" version lol

I don't get the hate for Avicii. He's awesome at what he does! I honestly think True is one of the best Dance records in a long while!

No don't get me wrong. I also liked Paradise and songs like yellow. Its nothing about "coolness". I just dont enjoy pop music the most time, so im mostly expecting nothing from it.

so whenever i hear a pop song i like im pretty suprised :P

^this

I don't understand the Problem... Ghost Stories has songs that most people love Coldplay for. Which is the more laid back Acoustic softer sound. Then they have an up-beat song and it's shunned because it's going to be EDM ? Absurd.

Also, i kinda hope i will hear ASFOS in clubs here. So my "non-colplayish" friends are forced to enjoy their music and will join me on some concerts hahaha

Ah, alright, well as long as you're not one of those "Eww I hate all pop music, I only like REAL music" type of people,

then you're good by my book xD

Yeah, to be fair ASFOS is really the only more pop-ish upbeat song on the album it seems like lol

And Magic!

aw shit no, if it wasn't for this fucking song Ghost Stories would be ahead of Parachutes, it doesn't fit the others songs at all

and this is bad EDM, check tiesto for EDM of great quality

I don't get the hate for Avicii.

When someone like Coldplay begin to lose it's own unique style and turning into something you can hardly call "music" with all those beat and loudness with narrow dynamic range - give it a second thought.

I think we should all listen to the whole album first. The instrumental outro of Oceans will for sure provide a good build-up into ASFOS.

It's one single - and it will undoubtedly help keep them on top this year and on the radio non-stop. ONE SINGLE. ONE SONG. How the fuck are they losing their style? HAVE YOU HEARD OCEANS? ALWAYS IN MY HEAD? O?

why so much hate around a sky full of stars its a great song so what if avicii is involved its still has coldplayish feeling...just think of it as don;t let it break your heart feat avici lol no but srlsy its the best song on the album

Exactly.

Oh no, one pop/mainstream/modern song and Coldplay is dead! What a bunch of sellouts!

Yes exactly! And it's not even the first time. Paradise was a pretty mainstream pop song (and it was quite good), very successful.

Just listen to what Chris said about it and enjoy yourself!

It's not exactly 'one song'... since the Viva era finished there's been a certain duet that riled a lot of people, and 'Midnight' is hardly a Coldplay original composition given it was the leading single for this album era. I agree Always In My Head and Oceans are much less 'mainstream' in style, but it's hard not to notice the lack of prominent guitar in a lot of what we've heard so far. One band changing their sound like that is totally fine, but with lots making the same decisions at once it feels more like a bandwagon than artistic innovation and evolution. I'm not convinced the changes in Coldplay's style here have been made by for the right reasons.
