Excellent Moon Music - One of the best Coldplay songs in the last 10 years, one of the rare moments where Chris shines lyrically and vocally and the only song where I wanted to hear another verse from him. The piano is just beautiful. Could have done without the transition to FLIFIL though. Great way to start a record. Very good Alien Hits / Alien Radio - A lot of ideas thrown together into a beautiful mix. A solid attempt at replicating Sigur Ros’ Takk era. The speech fits quite well for once. Good iAAM - The first verse and the repetition of "I got this feeling" is still hilariously bad lyrically even for Coldplay standards but thank god this has turned into a good song overall. Love the chorus. Should have been longer sadly as the ending feels rushed. I can see how it was thrown on the album at the last minute. Aeterna - BANGER. They’ve nailed it. Would have been into the "Very good" category if not for that useless FLIFIL Part 2 thing. Jupiter - Will be a grower. Glad it’s different from the demo. Screams EL for the acoustic bit and Prospekts March for the violins. The 2 ALIENS bit is a nice touch. Meh FLIFIL, We Pray - We’ve known these ones for a while and lots have been said already. FLIFIL flows better in the context of the album but still is one of the weakest Coldplay lead singles and not a live gig closer by any means. We Pray is a fun song but should have been a stand alone single. One World - Their weakest closing song by a mile. It’s not even bad… but nothing is really happening until the strings. The climax and the lyric "In the end it’s just love" is corny but works well though. The Orange bit and the HFTW birds… no comment. Bad Good Feelings - A waste of a spot, a waste of a feature and the fact that song is funky doesn’t make it good. One of the most generic things they’ve ever released. All My Love - I just… don’t see the appeal for that song. Happy ballads have been done over and over by the band but their late attempts have not been particularly successful. The lalalas are particularly insufferable on this one. This is even more sad knowing Earthling is somewhere out there… Overall I was expecting much worse after the singles and the live performances. It’s more cohesive as a record than MOTS (not a difficult task though) and there are some really good ideas thrown together. Unfortunately Chris is more insufferable than ever and is the weak link of most of these songs. The lalalala are hilariously bad and irritating when you’re listening to the record from start to finish. Thank god he shines on the title track and is quite decent on Jupiter. 5.5/10. October 3, 20241 yr I think All My Love is one of the best things they've ever recorded and such a fitting 'final single' if that's to be the case. One of their absolute best piano ballads with full-on McCartney esque piano and production flourishes to top it off. Something special IMO.

October 3, 20241 yr First and foremost, I love that so many fans have stuck with Coldplay for such a long time. When you've been a fan for 15+ years, you have heard some mesmerizing stuff along the way, basically something amazing in every album, so I know everyone will find something for themselves in Moon Music also. For me, it's a very diverse collection of songs, maybe I will get crucified for saying this, but I like MOTS better. Moon Music era feels too pop to me, with not one song really standing out. I like Jupiter, All My Love (which could potentially become a new anthem but not to the level of The Scientist) and We Pray. We Pray with so many people works better than it would have, had it been "only" Coldplay. I like to listen to songs then sometimes I think about what I would change about them and sometimes there are songs where I wouldn't change anything (Everyday Life, Coloratura for me) and on Moon Music I almost always feel I'd like to change something. Even surprises are a little so-so...someone said the instrumental snippets were afterthoughts well I don't know about that but those little songs seem a bit strange, this has been also MOTS' "problem." In all reality, our love for the band is unwavering, but I am a bit meeh about this album - again.

October 4, 20241 yr Author I'm listening to it now. iTunes refused to download Feels Like I'm Falling in Love since I own the single, so if there are any differences on the album version I don't know. Here are my thoughts on each song: Moon Music: A very surprising choice for a first track, but I like unique things like that and both halves of the song are very nice. Feels Like I'm Falling in Love: It's a simple song but I do still like it. We Pray: As has been discussed in this thread in August, I absolutely despise this song. It makes no sense being on the album and should have been a non-album single, which would have allowed me to ignore its existence. Jupiter: It's okay. The ending where the song fades out, then fades back in again, then fades into Two Aliens, is very weirdly done. It almost feels like they messed up the project in Logic Pro and there was meant to be something in the gap. Alas, there is not. Good Feelings: Unfortunately this isn't as much of a banger as the live version, and the mixing here got rid of a lot of the nice bits from that live version that made me like it so much. It's still a banger, but probably only a half-banger. Alien Hits: I'll review the different sections separately. Neon Forest is great, and I liked it from the moment it leaked. The extra vocals at the start are a nice touch but a bit misplaced. The middle section (I can't remember the name) is nice, and I really like the spoken word bit at the end. I Am a Mountain: Another song that I've had controversial opinions on. I love the instrumental, but I still think the lyrics are among the most braindead of any Coldplay song. No Coldplay song has deserved better lyrics more than IAAM in my mind. Aeterna: I really liked the live version and the leaked version, and the new version hasn't taken away from those like the album version of Good Feelings. The ending is jarring straight after Aeterna; it should have been a separate track. All My Love: It's okay. The second half is a lot nicer than the first half; another case of Feels Like I'm Falling In Love Syndrome. One World: Really lovely, with by far the best production on the album. The hidden track (does anyone know what the name is?) is controversial but I actually really like it. It reminds me of The Goldrush and has the same low-fi recording of POTP/WOTW that I like in isolation. On a final note, I'm sure the field recording at the start of One World is actually stock audio, because I think it was used in Rail Simulator from 2007. I'll need to check that. Some more thoughts: I don't think the album works as a cohesive package. To be fair I don't think any Coldplay album released after Ghost Stories does. That said, there has clearly been some effort put into the album. The little field recordings and ad libs dotted throughout the album give me the feeling that real people put in effort and cared about what they made... Even if what they made had to include We Pray because potato. As I said before, We Pray bares no resemblance to any other song on the album or any other song Coldplay have ever made. As far as I'm concerned it's a Los Unidades song, not Coldplay. I know a lot of people like it, but I'd rather be deaf than listen to it. The production is once again spotty. Good Feelings is the most disappointing when it comes to the mixing. When I listened to the live version I thought there was no way they could mess it up, Then they did. Of course the other issues I pointed out still stand, and even though the album took two years longer to release than I thought it would I still wish they'd spent more time listening to the album to see how it flowed. If you've ever listened to Diamond Mine by King Creosote you might understand me when I say that Coldplay were trying to imitate that style of album, but not very well. I don't mean musically, but in the setup. I do wonder if the concept would have been helped if Coloratura was on this album instead of MOTS... Ultimately this is the closest we've had to a good Coldplay album since Ghost Stories (excluding Everyday Life). However, I get the feeling that some of the songs, particularly IAAM, are Coldplay trying to parody their own style without remembering how to actually make songs like that work. It's basically Coldplay's equivalent of Every Breaking Wave by U2. The whole album seems like the start of a better Coldplay, but we'll have to wait to actually get a Coldplay album that reverses the ten years of decline after Ghost Stories. Would've preferred they separated the instrumental from the singing part as separate songs and made the singing part into a fuller song. All My Love is nice but nothing groundbreaking. Sounds more Toy Story than Oldplay to me. One World had potential but then turns into another half song half instrumental + throw in some other unfinished song at the end. I like the first bit - feels like Bon Iver. Wish they would've stayed with that theme and made a full song out of it. Aeterna is blah to me. Maybe a good song for them to sell to video games or dance mixes. Good Feelings is another one where it feels like Chris wrote it for another artist but then kept it for Coldplay. We have to get used to the fact that CP now writes a couple songs per album with the only intention of bringing the energy to a live show. This is that song on this album. Forgettable but I'm sure will be used live. Overall, the songs that feel finished are pretty great but it's another album where it seems like they've either gotten too lazy to finish writing songs, they have a writing block to finish songs, or they've decided cramming a bunch of unfinished song tidbits into one song feels artistic or something. As a songwriter myself, I know that the hardest thing is to "finish" a song but it's been 3 albums in a row now where they give us 7-8 finished songs and then like 15 additional song snippets crammed as filler compilations.There's a lot of like about the song snippets - I just wish they'd finish writing them instead of cramming them into odd compilation/instrumentals. It worked with VLV because they were more polished songs. I don't think it works as well here. One One World is Brian Enos comeback

October 4, 20241 yr Here are my initial thoughts that I wrote down whilst listening for the first time: MOON MUSiC - Delicate and beautiful. feelslikeimfallinginlove - TUNE! WE PRAY - Great bass but I dislike the female English rapper's voice. JUPiTER - Lovely orchestration and I love the meaning behind the song. GOOD FEELiNGS - Funky! 🌈 - Ethereal yet slightly rocky shoegazer. Structurally interesting. Definately the most skippable... iAAM - TUNE! Best track for me. AETERNA - Great beat, perfect track to endlessly remix. Weird bit tacked onto the end though... ALL MY LOVE - Simple. Pure. Classic. ONE WORLD - Very gentle closing track. Mostly orchestral. In the end it's just love. Overall... it's Coldplay. I always love what they produce and am grateful for them making such beautiful music that lifts my spirit. Please make 10 more albums! 🙏

EL had maybe half of their songs about 2 min, and on this one I didn't even know which song I was listening too some times ! The ending of Jupiter ? The rainbow thing ? Please guys... Moon Music, FLIFIL and iAAM are the best songs in this album in my opinion and the lyrics of Moon Music are the highlight of the last two records. Let's talk about the lyrics... I know Chris wants a world full of love. We got it mate. So why do you repeat it two thousand times in 15 min ? Between the word love and the lalalalas, It feels like I'm listening to Paul Mccartney when he was 17. I know I may sound a bit harsh but I love this f*cking band when they put their talent together. Chris has genius but unfortunately he sometimes loses himself into concepts and concepts don't make songs. I won't talk about Aeterna because I don't want to be mean. 5,5/10

That means we gave ideas and helped with the concept of the song, maybe gave the synth that sounds at the beginning… But in my humble opinion, it would be a better song if they would had let it him decide 100% what to do with the song.
