Some of the industry's most influential artist managers gathered today at the 6th annual Billboard Touring Conference and Awards in New York to discuss their ever-evolving roles in overseeing their artists' brands. Billboard editorial director Bill Werde led the panel – which included managers of acts like Coldplay, Beyonce, Dave Matthews Band, Motley Crue, My Morning Jacket and Trisha Yearwood - through a civil discussion that touched upon topics such as industry consolidation, the role of record labels in artist development, and one of the conference's more polarizing topics - secondary ticketing. “I think [secondary ticketing] is a disgusting bottomfeeder pract…

The story is, I was planning on attending the 7/27 Jones Beach concert, and it was cancelled...so I didn't get a chance to see them on the Viva tour  when do you think they'll tour next? Any hints? And will they be in the U.S.A?

Millions of music fans may face dearer concert tickets if a mega-merger is allowed, watchdogs warned yesterday. The Competition Commission wants to scupper a £500million tie-up between booking agency Ticketmaster and promoter Live Nation. It is powerless to block the deal as both businesses are based in the US. But, fearing the move may get the go-ahead from American authorities, it yesterday revealed ways to limit its power in the UK. Options include forcing bosses to split or sell UK arms or make them flog tickets through rivals. W…

As we've reached the end of the tour for now (until we hear anything else about South America/Israel), I've started tidying up the Live Section. The 2009 concert threads for the European & US legs are now in their newly created sub-forums (located at the top of the page) UK & Ireland to follow shortly. Plus, the easy-thread finder threads are still stuck at the top on the main live section to help you find individual threads quickly. :D

The Rolling Stones were today named the bookies' favourites as the headliner to close next year's sell-out Glastonbury Festival, according to NME today. Despite none of the acts being announced until next year, tickets for the event sold out within hours of going on sale and now bookmakers and fans are speculating on who will close the final night. "We have lost a few quid on the headline act for two years running and it will be interesting to see if punters get it right again," said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams. The bookmakers hav…

Can someone tell me who the gentleman is in the photo (on the right) with the glasses/red pin from the most recent Wembley photoblog. Don't laugh at me if it's very obvious, but I need to know, it's been driving me crazy for months now. Long story, short promised when I finally find out.

Aside from the general awesomeness that is watching Coldplay up on stage playing your favorite songs, another thing that I always look forward to is buying most of the stuff they're selling me! I make a point to buy shirts, etc. before the show to make sure I don't have to deal with anything selling out. I have high hopes for this tour's merchandise. I'm sure everything will look amazing! Any thoughts????

A big year for music. A big year for action. The crew have flown out, to wipe the jet-lag from their eyes, in time to get the stage up tomorrow. Yesterday morning, Coldplay flew out to join them. Tomorrow, Tokyo will see the start of the Coldplay tour in 2009. Oxfam Japan will be there waiting for them. With that, comes a new blogger. Oxfam’s Akiko Mera, has worked tirelessly to get things ready for the show tomorrow. She will be there, at the first drop of another rollercoaster ride on the Coldplay tourbus. The Saitama Super Arena will be the first stop. This year, the band have already confirmed shows in 20 countries. The stages will be bigger than last year, and …

Hi. I'm heading to the Hampden gig next week (16th). Can any fellow coldplay fans confirm if there is going to be a restricted 'inner circle' area up close to the stage where if I get in early will get me into this? My girlfriend is a shorta@s and a bit claustrophobic so keen to get a good Spacious view if at all possible. Hopefully someone can confirm?? Can't wait!!
