  • If I'm not mistaken the "sample" (not really a sample) is actually called Alchemist's Choir and it's a Synth on Garageband and Logic and it's playing on a harp sequence G3, A#3, C4.

This song has a opening track of the album, give the tone of Chris personal journey in this album. Chris was very introspective so much in this song and you hear that his relationship was't did well w

Maybe it helps that alchemy - the process of turning bad things into good, in a way - was always the main concept and "Alchemy" was in fact a working title for the album before they settled on Ghost S

Oh! That sounds beautiful.

Cant wait for this.

The song is fucking beautiful. It's their best opener. I'm absolutely in love with it.

The lyrics are really strong. They're simple as hell but they perfectly capture that kind of longing feeling you get when you are grieving or missing something (in Chris' case, the breakup). Oh and the guitar riff and the ambient sounds and the synths, yeah I love this song.

"This, I guess, is to tell you you're chosen out from the rest."

Fantastic.

jesus the studio version is soooooooo solid.

During the Zane Lowe interview, when they started playing the intro, my heart started beating faster. Like the synths triggered something. Then the moment Chris sang that first line... "I think of you..." I teared up. It felt so... so, genuine. Almost sad, and it hit me like a speeding truck. I can't wait for this album. 3 weeks is gonna feel like an eternity.

Chris voice is so good, but I'm not into this song yet (the live version sounds better).

The lyrics mean something. They are profound and are delivered in a profound manner. The studio version sounds gorgeous and exceeds that of the live version for me.

Agreed. I don't like how the drums and guitar have been pushed more to the background, I really liked how they stood out in the live versions. Johnny and Will are so talented and that shouldn't be repressed.

Edit: I heard the beginning of the studio version during the interview on Zane's laptop and I'm much more happy, the guitar is less prominent in the part of the song that is up on soundcloud. Still, the drums though

This song so far, is my least favorite. Doesn't do anything for me.

Yes! You read my mind. I've never connected so deeply with a Coldplay song before.

Extended preview here. Perhaps already posted....

I think this is my fav song of GS.

The intro of this song absolutely steals my heart; it's basically everything I could've imagined the opening for Ghost Stories would've been. I can relate to the lyrics of this song because I've been there before and so have many of us. Also, that guitar is amazing :)

Man, after all of that said in the interview now I am starting to love this song. And I am in love with the studio version, sounds so pacific, so smooth... I really love it.

Love love love the backing vox. Just the distant 'ooooh's. Appropriately haunting

^This absolutely. I hope everyone stops just to appreciate that intro once the song is on. It totally breaks me.

Yep one of their best album openers and I think it will be defiantly one of my favourites on tha album, and so far already is.

At this moment in my life this song relates to me soo much it's not funny so I think that's why I adore it so much

One of the top songs on the album; and along with Politik and Square One, their best opener.

I really love this song. It is so simple but yet devastatingly beautiful.

And so my mouth waaatteeeers

to be filled

with more coldplay songs...

Want so desperately to hear the full version of this now

I really want to hear the full studio version.

From the clip we heard of the studio version I kinda like the live version better. That seems to happen with every opener, HLH was so much better live...
