LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Featured Replies

It wouldn't be disappointing. And it's certainly not impossible. As I said before they MIGHT preview a song or two during the festivals. But I'm not expecting more. I don't mind it anyway if they need more time to polish the album I'm happily prepared to wait as long as it takes.

Remember that we should all be prepared for a hiatus after LP7 is done and over with. A hiatus which is looooooooong overdue.

It would make you wonder whether the album is farther away than we think. In the past Coldplay have always had a heftly amount of space between albums- A span of two to three years. Considering GS is only over a year old and all the side work Chris has done with Avicii the album could be a while off yet. Maybe that's why we are getting complete radio silence from the Coldplay camp as it could be too early in the development process to tease anything. Scary thought.

It's sad to think about this but it makes a lot of sense. We were led to believe the album was almost finished when that might not be the case. Chris said they were right in the middle of it (in December). Well, if they are working on it since October, the other half must be long finished. But we still don't have any news from the band, so I honestly don't know what to think.

I agree it may be disappointing depending on your personal views, but not for the reason the OP gave (because they may play all GS tracks, which I thought was preposterous).

Lets be honest, if you're expecting them to play frickin' Warning Sign, Sparks and Strawberry Swing or something, of course you're gonna be disappointed. Be realistic, this is a mini festival gig and you KNOW what they're gonna play; the hits!

Personally, i'm seeing this as their first gig after a long break and i'll be excited whatever the hell they play.

At the same time, I don't think the band are just sitting on a finished album and withholding it for no reason. The band are known to be perfectionists and nitpick at every little thing and management have to rip it from them to get released. I think it'll get here when it gets here but yeah, it is a bit of a downer that there's no news whatsoever, which to me, opens the window to a surprise release. Not saying it will happen, but possible.

It's also impossible. Seriously, are we just looking for things to complain about?

Always, yes.

I'm sorry, but there is no way they just play older stuff. Will they play some hits? Yes. Expect Viva, Paradise, or Clocks and possibly ASFOS. Although they just played some of those last year at the festival. I really don't think they are doing this festival just for the hell of it. Why bother playing if there is nothing new? I get they might want to warm up and I won't complain if they don't end up playing anything new, but this kinda festival screams new. Its a big festival, I think most acts have new music, so why not Coldplay? I won't complain if we don't hear any new material, but I will truly be surprised. They will play at least one new song, and if I am wrong I promise you guys, I will eat my hat. [emoji51]

I wonder if they'll release something if we stop posting in this thread for a few days... :tricky:

Yes. Exactly [emoji106] for sure they'll play their typical setlist- viva, asfos, paradise. Something new will be heard, the question is how many new songs will be played? And if they don't, i'll help you eat your hat. [emoji51][emoji2]

If they don't do a surprise release, do you think they'll upload to YouTube short videos of each song from the album, like they did with GS?

Did they used to do that before GS?

Great! I could use a hat eating buddy. I personally think it will just be one but possibly 2. Hopefully no more than 2. I believe they did 5 songs last year. Clocks, Viva, Paradise, Ink, and ASFOS. So I think 2 new songs would be a good balance.

If they want pop/electronic influence then they should look no further than Chris Martin's original inspiration - the utterly supreme a-ha.

And of course, how could I post about a-ha without redirecting to the most beautiful song ever made

I will eat my disappointment if a new song isn't played. I totally agree that I hope AHFOD is perfected and the band has plenty of time to fine tune. But Chris wouldn't have made the announcement about the album to Zane Lowe last December if it was going to be released in 2016. What we know is that they have been working on the album for a long time (potentially pre-Ghost Stories) and that there are enough rumours to suggest there will be a tour next Spring.

There is no way they won't have new material during or around their festival dates. All evidence seems against it.

Edit: I would also like to add that I just had strong feelings when watching the Ghost Stories Live 2014 performance of Fly On and seeing Will with an electric guitar. Coldplay are at their best when the mix up instruments and all get close together for a song. WE NEED MORE OF THIS. For GS every single live performance had a backing track to fill in the extra instrumentals. I love it when Will grabs an acoustic guitar or when Guy jumps onto keyboards. We need more of that.

Question for you all: Coldplay's songs are always layered with a lot of instrumentation, all of which they can't achieve with just four people during a live show. So will AHFOD tour be the first that they bring some extra personnel? I am talking multi-instrumentalists to help out with string sections or horns? I kind of hope so.

Apple Music twitter said more announcements coming soon.... maybe keep an eye on that there could possibly be something (SPECULATION)

It'd be awesome if they had davide handling horns and violins on stage with them during their performances. [emoji2] as for their extra personnel, they usually have someone backstage handling the extra instrumentation. When they play asfos live, the piano is played by itself.

Maybe they'll play new songs at the festivals . . . songs that don't wind up on the album like they used to do during the Parachutes-X&Y eras (and even a little in the Viva era with The Dubliners and Don Quixote/Spanish Rain). Wishful thinking? Probably :awesome:

That would be great. [emoji2][emoji106]

Making me hopeful again, keep thinking it's strange that the band's playing two "festivals" for their comeback, yet both are only short sets. But guess there wasn't any news of them playing the apple fest today..

I have mixed feelings about that... on one hand I'd love to hear something new but on the other hand what if the songs are amazing and we never get a recorded version to enjoy? :worried:

I remember they've played a short set for Itunes festival, and they played Always in my head and Another's arms for the first time ever !!!

I remember being completely blown away by that first version of Another's Arms. And then AIMH was kinda meh.

But then AIMH grew on me and became one of my favorites from GS.

I don't know, maybe I'd prefer hearing the studio versions first for AHFOD.

They actually played 11 songs at the ITunes fest, and only 5 at the iHeart one.. :/

I agree, so much more alive than the album version. I was so excited when I heard that and then so disappointed when I heard the album.

I decided to list the big 2015 Fall releases.

October 2nd: Janet Jackson / Avicii

October 9th: Selena Gomez

October 16th: Demi Lovato / Pentatonix / Labrinth

October 23rd: Carrie Underwood / 5 Seconds Of Summer

October 30th:

November 6th: Little Mix

November 13th: Justin Bieber

November 20th & November 27th: 1 Direction, Rihanna, Kanye West (not confirmed yet but very likely)

It's unlikely that Coldplay will release the same day as these artists in my opinion except for Little Mix. So that leaves us October 30th and November 6th.

And if Adele is indeed releasing her album in November like Rolling Stones said, my guesses are November 6th and November 20th/27th (close to Black Friday)

October 30th is the only date untouched
