i'm sorry, could you make your point a bit clearer? I seem to have missed it.

he thinks he's posting on reddit or 4chan :/

>Doing this is a method of pulling parts out of a person's post. Originates from 4chan.

Hehe, reddit doesn't do that. And I don't think I'm posting on 4chan. I just prefer using the same method of doing the same thing. Any problem, sir?

Yeah I got that you were taking parts of a previous post, your goal is what I still don't get.

Also, this is not 4chan, we're just a regular forum, so if you could perhaps leave your 4chan style your point might come across better. I might sound old-fashioned but us dinosaurs generally prefer actual sentences. ;)

Or funny gifs.

Then how exactly would I accomplish a similar goal. ie. rip out parts of a previous post

then you have major problems regarding music taste.

Problems regarding music taste? Huh? How is that even possible? It's your personal taste. Or did you mean that you have a problem with other people's music taste?

But what's the point of doing that? :(

To emphasize on that specific part and ignore the rest of the unrelated content.

you can use the QUOTE BB Code and bold the part you are refering to

Doesn't quite have the same effect.

:|

I still don't get it :|

It can also be used to create a conclusion based upon post history. Example:

>Explained multiple times how doing this helps with quoting and etc.

>Still doesn't understand

>Error 404 reason not found

Like that.

Aaaaaand we're straight back off topic :)

So, it seems like I'm the only person here who wants AHFOD to be AROBTTH 2.0? Well then...

you're new here aren't you?

*checks join date

yup....

I think people wanting A Rush 2.0 is probably the thing that's been repeated *the* greatest number of times.

As we are already off-topic, let me state my opinion on this music-discussion.

Of course music taste is subjective and what someone likes may sound horrible for the other.

But still there is a certain kind of "objective" rating of music. You may analyse a musical piece and find out how structured it is, how elaborate a composition in all its details is. Does it use innovative melodies, harmonies, rhythms etc.? Is it in itself a well worked-out and self-contained entity? Are the lyrics meaningful and thought-provoking and do they work well together with the music?

Or is it just another dull mass-product with lyrics that refer to the most primitive drives (sex, power and money) and reaffirm the mainstream opinion? Is it just another simple beat that is repeated a hundred times over and over with the same 4 chords? Is it another one of these singers whose only quality is sex-appeal and whose voice has to be altered electronically to stay in the right key but is still regarded by society as an "artist"?

I'm just saying that although it is difficult to create a more or less objective rating of a musical composition it is possible. Of course this does not mean that everyone should like the same stuff or only listen to the most elaborate kind of music. You can like whatever you want and I too am often in the mood for some easy-listening stuff but saying that Lil' Wayne is on a musical level equal to Beethoven is just ridiculous.

Btw, Massive Attack rocks! :)

And yes, AROBTTH 2.0 would be fantastic but I highly doubt it.

I think this method can be used to separate extremes in quality i.e Sigur Ros>One Direction but breaks down when the intention of the music becomes less purely commercial (key word purely) for instance Ok Computer>Definitely Maybe, Ok Computer is more technically advanced and innovative than Definitely Maybe but then the artistic intentions are different - Definitely Maybe uses simplicity and power to expess itself, being consciously complex would dilute its real meaning. I think you can only objectively quantify quality when the intention is purely commercial like Nicki Minaj, but I would then argue it is no longer true music but a product.

I don't think people should hope for a repeat of a style of music they produced in the past, partly because I don't ever see it happening. Those days are done. The band seems intent on reinventing themselves each and every album since Viva. I think this is just the way it is, and probably something we have to learn to accept.

Well I would argue that Ok Computer is musically more challenging and refined. Of course Definitely Maybe is also very beautiful although it is simpler than Ok Computer. But then again, as I said, it is very hard to compare music in this way and stay objective (especially in this case where both mentioned albums are top-notch).

I think beauty and artistic value are two different things. Beauty is subjective and cannot be measured objectively. Artistic value, however, I would simply define as "how much intelligence/information is put into the artwork".

I disagree with your point about commercial music not being music. I see Nicki Minaj's work still as music but on a lower artistic level. What would you say if a truly talented musician happens to have earning money as his life-goal? Would his music be bad just because of his motives?

By the way folks, have you heard about this: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/chris-martin-david-bowie-rejected-coldplay-collaboration-20141214 ?

Now that would have been a collaboration to my liking!

So well said.. Music changes and should be fluid...each album is beautiful in its own very unique way... We wouldn't want the same thing over 7 times it just wouldn't make sense...AFOD will be perfect because it too will be completely new and unique!

I personal cannot wait to see what the genuis' have created this time round!!!

A Rush of Blood to the Head Full of Dreams.

:charming:

That mental album cover though, it's quite psychedelic LOL

If the musician created it in such a way as it was devoid of any personal expression that risked sales, and all lyrics/melody/structure/artwork/videos/promotion ect was devised only for commercial reasons (I.e One Direction) then I would consider that a product, regardless of talent/original motives.

Bowie/coldplay would be odd to say the least - not sure how those 2 would match up tbh.
