AVICII PRAISES COLDPLAY’S CHRIS MARTIN IN RECENT INTERVIEW

KSPENCE

It’s hard to find a fault in working with Chris Martin. The Coldplay frontman has proven that his vocals are one of a kind, from his work with Kanye West all the way into the world of EDM. Though we first got a taste of how well Chris Martin sounded in Swedish House Mafia‘s remix of “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” a few years back, now we’re starting to see his work as a featured vocalist on Avicii’s new album Stories. It’s already been revealed that their collab is called “Heaven,” but in a recent interview, Avicii went more in-depth about the creative process.

Chris is one of the most artistic people I’ve ever met. And a perfectionist. We did like, 600 versions of the song and still he’s asking me to tweak the vocals.

Working with people like Chris Martin, Nile Rodgers, and Mac David have allowed Avicii to gain confidence in his music-making abilities, which we’ll hear plenty of when Stories is released this year.

The track was co-written by Chris Martin, but Simon Aldred – the singer from “Waiting For Love” with Martin Garrix – is the one performing on this, the most recent version of the track. We will have to wait and see what the final version sounds like, but this surely works to set the stage for Avicii’s upcoming album Stories. We can’t wait.

Lol, I thought you were about to say something good!

Well yeah, this song is too EDMish. I kinda like it but not my favorite. ASFOS is much better.

I read that for the time being Chris isn't going to be singing the version that's out there and that he's going to wait until he's made a version that he enjoys.

according to the avicii fan pages, he has said that there are 2 CM collabs in the lp. but both wanted only one chris vocal. so heaven is written with chris, but features vocals from a singer that avicii has worked with frequently before. no one knows what the other song is yet, but that's the one that supposedly went through "600 versions".

Yes, because why would you make 600 versions of a vocal recording and then use an entirely different singer? This makes sense.

This could be going the way that 'The Streets - Dry Your Eyes' went. Chris didn't like the version they made and then it ended up becoming The Streets only. We got to hear it in the end though, via a leak or something.

  • 2 years later...

House music DJ Nicky Romero played on the 27th of april this song with the vocals of Chris Martin in memory of Avicii.

He said (in dutch) that he received the finished version of the song from Avicii before he died.

During the documentary "Avicii: True Stories", is a short clip when Avicii finished the song A Sky Full of Stars with Chris...

...and he did the vocals for the song "Heaven".
