Hedwig
Not my favourite song on the album but I think it's beautiful! I was feeling sad and I had fallen asleep and suddenly woke up 10 minutes after it was uploaded on youtube. The first thing I did when I woke up was to listen to Everyday Life and let me tell you listening to it was a sweet and exciting way to wake up  I just love that they made songs that they really like and I appreciate their work in this album

42Escapist
I've been listening to the studio version of Everyday Life on repeat and honestly... wow. It's really beautiful. In terms of sheer beauty, it ranks up there with Gravity, Fix You, Fly On, Death And All His Friends, and the like. I adore the production. Jonny's E-bow especially steals the show here, it compliments those strings perfectly. The lyrics are beautiful, with what seems to be an REM reference (Everybody Hurts) in there. I still think the song ends too abruptly, but it all makes more sense to me in this studio version compared to the SNL performance. In time, this might end up being one of my favorite Coldplay album closers. This era is turning out to be really special. Wow.

42JTR
Everyday Life is so beautiful. I feel this is the kind of song we wanted Everglow to be. It's even better live and it reminds me a bit of Elbow. This is truly the Coldplay I want to hear! Thanks boys for another beautiful gem.
merril
Arabesque spoilt us. Exactly!! I loved Arabesque when I first heard it and I loved Orphans on second hearing. It's really catchy. I thought the songs which would be released would be getting better and better. But even after listening to Everyday Life several times I don't like it as much as the other two. It ends so abruptly and leaves me with a question mark. Well, we must simply accept the fact that this is the music which is close to the boys' hearts. As Chris said they no longer pay attention to what people think of their music. I'm still looking forward to the other songs on the album though.

a2iel
Also Guy’s baselines so far are all so interesting, def liking that without the super crazy productions they’ve been going for his bass is getting more center stage!
Essam
First of all we have two endings one for sunrise and one for sunset Second of all I don’t care if they released it as a single or not it doesn’t matter to me. the song is very beautiful and touching and I loved it. I think it’s been a long time since Coldplay made a really beautiful and touching song with a good lyrics.
cp3176
cp3176 !! The link below is the first video of a 3 part series where Jacob explains his thoughts on harmony, the overtone series and other theoretical aspects of music. It's really well edited (shows diagrams of the scales he's singing, as well as playing it on piano to support it) and you can see Jacob singing a multitude of scales in various keys, from memory, perfectly on pitch. It's quite remarkable. It's not just his sheer understanding, the guy is CREATING and REVOLUTIONISING: Here is a video of him explaining and using his vocal harmoniser too: Thanks for the videos. Don't have time to watch them right now but I will keep them for reference. Expecting to be very surprised, more than I thought I would. Yes, they are brilliant in their own right and if they can only become even better by collaborating, that's ok. It's funny how the two songs of the new album released so far seems to make everybody happy. "Orphans is for the 'Newplayers' and 'Arabesque' is for the 'OldPlayers'. It's strange that they release a song as their first song which had only be created at the very last minute. It's surprising to see that so many people are already acclaiming this heavily. Although Everyday Life isn't getting the same praise, which is baffling because it's supposed to be the melancholic Coldplay we all know so well. It's personally my favorite track yet, even if the second verse and the outro was cut short. Mylo-sessions Arabesque Isn't arabesque from viva? I'm excited for the prospect that we might get some unreleased old stuff repurposed for this album, like "Arabesque". I've heard (and seen) that older bands usually do that a lot, they repurpose stuff for later albums (in an interview posted on this thread Chris outright mentioned that they're making songs for when they're older lol). It makes it a lot more interesting to revisit stuff you created in your younger years and is an interesting way to experiment I think rather than just making music all the time, you can modify what you did previously which is something cool in it's own right. We've seen it with Aliens, Paradise being reworked from the original Fun, and the Fun off of AHFOD shares a lyric from the original Fun (might be a coincidence). Radiohead also did this with their latest album. So It'll be interesting to see what Coldplay delivers for us this time around, as many other people have already said in this thread! Apparently in Japan it's a lot cheaper to import CDs from other countries so record labels usually put an extra bonus track or two on the Japanese version to try and encourage the people of Japan to buy that version. Hm, I wonder why it's cheaper to import to specifically Japan. I know they have a large population so maybe that's a part of the reason and also combined with that. I'd rather a country have access to these than none otherwise we'd never hear these tracks lol I have a bit of a theory that the opening track, "Sunrise", might actually be an instrumental intro. Kinda like Mylo Xyloto and Life in Technicolour. I also have a feeling that first promo video we got with the 15 second sound bite (22 November, 1919) might actually be Sunrise. Sounds like an album opener to me. Can you or somebody else link that promo vid? Interested to hear what this potential part of this sounds like. Musically, this decade will be remembered as the EDM decade. Meh, I ain't so sure. Certainly that would be a part of it, and if you're talking about the early '10s you're certainly right (along with electro/dance pop) but 2013-2015 was more subtle indie pop, then came the hyper lame thinly produced pop-rap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7vzdgJBm74 I hope this one ends up in Everyday Life. It sounds like Oldplay and has a Gravity feel to it. This was recorded way back in 2017 but it might have been an early idea reused for this album. I guess we'll have to wait and see, it didn't make it to either Kaleidoscope EP or any of the Los Unidades material to my knowledge (or it was an old song that somebody on here claims exists already somewhere else, although I can't recall this song and if anybody can tell me what this song is that'd be great). It does sound really nice though, so I hope you're right. I heard him say that the album is not an album to go on tour with. He also said they do have some surprises and shows planned, but I think it's save to conclude there won't be a tour any time soon. On one hand that's great because that hints this is a more experimental album unfit for stadiums which we all have been wishing for so long, on the other hand I was getting a little hyped for the tour, moreso because of the people around me talking about it. Here's hoping they release something a little more stadium friendly soon so that happens (but retain some of the experimentality to keep those of us including me who want to see some originality from the band happy. They've done it before, I'm sure they can pull it off again) Didn't this turn out to be ALIENS? Sounds nothing like it :/ That means we are getting another album in 2020 or what ? I dont see any reason why they won´t do big Tour for this album expect they have another album in their minds already. Well woah, hold on a second. Maybe not as soon as 2020 (then again I didn't expect a release as soon as 2019 so you might be right, but that would be a whole nother album in just over a year or even less which would be crazy. I'd place my bets on 2021 or early 2022 myself.) That's what I'm thinking too. If they are going with the same route as GS/AHFOD, there might be another album. But I honestly hope that's not the case as I don't want another AHFOD type of album. I don't think any of us wants a repeat of AHFOD, but it's definitely possible, as they've shown us, to make upbeat songs without totally selling out. (Although they have on some songs......) What do y'all think will be the longest song on the album Arabesque is likely to retain that title. It's barbershop quartet meets jazz if if you filtered it through Laurie Anderson, yet completely accessible and palatable to the average listener Another example of what I was talking about: I've never listened to any Jacob Collier work myself so I wouldn't be able to agree, but if this guy is right it's definitely possible to make experimental music that's still accessible, which is what I hope happens for this album and for the next album as well in more of an upbeat stadium format. And just generally - I'm way way way behind with reading and commenting all the forum activity. So many Coldplay news these days, so much work and so little time for me. sameeeeeeee..... geez this is taking a long time to write out with all these quotes lol..... well it really is 53m the length doesn't bother me hell it could 35m I'd still be ok I just want some good music Quality over quantity definitely. I definitely like a lot of music though, both would be ideal but that would be asking too much :joy: Otherwise it would be insane if each half of the album would run 53 minutes. Meh that's nothing, there are amazing double albums far longer than that..... I'd like to see what they do in a shorter format I guess?? My only critique with some of Coldplay's discography is that the songs have a tendency to run long at times, it works a lot but gets tedious after a while I was gonna say that this is one of Coldplay's longest albums and I didn't know what you were talking about, but if each song is shorter than you might be right. Personally I think a lot of potential in Viva was lost because of the "42 minute rule" (even though it was cool because they had a track named that) but if some songs were longer and more fleshed out I think Viva would be even better (as ingenious as some of the ideas on there were). The album’s cover image is based around a 1919 photo of Jonny’s great-grandfather’s band Source? That's quite interesting. I'm thinking song is released tomorrow then performed with Orphans on SNL This and Orphans on SNL maybe? These people can see into the future :joy: Oh my goodness... just saw the news about Jordan now. WE'RE GONNA HEAR ARABESQUE LIIIIIIIIVE You know, I never thought about it like that. I was too busy being excited about all the other music. But you're definitely right! I really wonder what a live rendition will sound like. Too bad that most of us won't get to hear it in person though, since apparently a big tour is not happening for this album :/ Do you guys think tickets to the performance will be available? :innocent: It's very possible it'll end up being a sort of..... darn where was that they performed Everglow live with no audience again? And it ended up sounding spectacular because they weren't feeling pressured or putting on a massive show for everybody therefore hindering the musical performance itself?..... anyway it's very possible it'll just be a deal like that. Band upside down on the top part of the cover, stuff flipped upside down in the Orphans video, now the world map literally turned upside down?!? Don't forget the fact that Coldplay threw a total curveball at us by turning around completely from their AHFOD and Los Unidades sound  We’ll get our tour here at some point. I hope that with this theme they’ve got for the albhm, they’ll go out and surprise people that normally wouldn’t have the chance to see bands like them. And then stream it to the rest of us so we can live it with them. That is a fantastic idea and something I can totally see them doing considering the themes they've been going on about lately. I would really like to see this actually and would prefer it over a tour for the time being! It would be nice to have another world tour within the next couple years though. I am probably one of the few dorks hoping that they use the fact that Chris Martin's ancestor was responsible for daylight saving time as a joke on SNL since we fall back an hour tonight in the US. Sadly they didn't, but that would have been awesome. Too bad SNL isn't creative enough these days to come up with jokes that are actually funny...... maybe they should hire you lol That's funny though because I never knew that until somebody I know just told me that a few days ago :joy: the new track is very meh You expected something more from the title?!? It's only "Everyday Life" you know. :p In all seriousness I do disagree though, I think it's just the kind of melodic melancholic track every Coldplay album needs. It's complete with field recordings in the beginning and ambience throughout, the strings are a nice touch that reminds me of a more subdued version of the Viva era, as it both sounds like single strings are playing and more in the background which isn't something they've done before, not even in the Viva era. It's unique production that I think sounds great, and then of course you have the classic Coldplay melodies and harmonic changes throughout with touching lyrics that complete the track's melancholic vibe. To each their own of course. but I'm not liking the overall flack this track is getting, because I think it's my favorite so far from this era! Definitely think the second verse should be longer and there should be another outro, although as another user here said maybe it's not a bad thing they managed to make a point in a bit more of a subtle way this time, because they've done grand endings many times before and to show restraint is a unique artistic choice that might grow on me. I do think for the time being it's cut short and missing something though, but for what's there it's still my favorite track so far. live version is much much better. it feels more alive and dynamic. Another disagree, sorry bud. It missed the strings and other interesting production qualities, and missed the intro. I would say that it felt like they wanted to continue playing but it was very uncertain until they just stopped and it almost felt like they decided not to, you know? But I guess if they rehearsed it that wouldn't have been the case, then again they could of (and did) shorten the song so there's that. I might have felt the same way upon listening to the studio track first though, I'd never know. What I do like better about the live is that Jonny's guitar shines a little more. In your original post you were saying how the track doesn't go anywhere, I think it could have been taken in a more uppity direction and I can certainly see the criticism that it just kind of lays there and does nothing, but IMO I think the song evolves and moves around enough, and has enough definition between its sections to have a good melancholic impact nonetheless. It's not a massive stadium anthem, but hey it doesn't need to be. I don't understand why they would release everyday life as a single either. Feel like even Arabesque would fair better. And usually the second single is the big single from every album. If this is the big defining single for this era, maybe the rest of the songs are not that radio friendly. I do agree, that I am puzzled as to why they'd release this as another single. Just for us fans I guess? I can't see this becoming the massive hit even though it's the second single. Perhaps that's supposed to be Orphans as it could technically be considered the "second" single of the double single they released, and that sounds like a much more radio friendly track with a higher potential to become a massive hit, that it hasn't yet however. Considering the current state of pop radio though I highly doubt this will go anywhere. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's rare songs like these get popular anyway even back in the day. Besides Coldplay aren't concerned about success anymore, which is great and they shouldn't be because they've experienced an enormous amount of success in the past 2 decades! We're not worried about success anymore, we just want for them to deliver to us something legitimately great and original for a change. And what they've done so far in this era is definitely welcome. :)

The Adversary
Haven't listened to the studio version of Everyday Life yet, but it sounded great live. It ended so abruptly though... I was expecting something more like the ending of What If after that last chorus. It's a sweet song, and it does sound very Oldplay if you ask me. It’s fine. I don’t think it’s very Oldplay in an AROBTTH or X&Y sense, but it does a subtle Viva vibe with the strings etc. I think Arabesque skewed a lot of our expectations of this album. While I hope there will be more Arabesques than Everyday Life’s’ on the record I suspect a lot of the songs will sound like that. Not a bad thing by any means, at least it’s not X Marks the Spot or a duet with Beyoncé!
arushofjacktothehead
classic @cp3176 making his giant-ass post of quotes and i dig everyday life, too. a very melancholy end to this album, and yes, if that's indeed the second single, then hopefully a lot of this album will be experimental as fuck. i feel as if we've heard a range of things so far...afrobeat/world/jazz ('Arabesque'), indie pop ('Orphans'), Viva-era Oldplay ('Everyday Life'), gospel? ('BrokEn') and really old-school Elvis-esque ballad? ('Cry Cry Cry'). i can't be the only one hoping for a crunchy, punchy punk track on 'Trouble In Town'. 2
