My latest obsession. Check out their bandcamp to listen to their album and EP. It's such a great record, no weak tracks really. Lots of energy, a certain freshness to it. Sure it's not groundbreaking, but it isn't trying to be. http://hoodedfang.bandcamp.com/ [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5X3zsVTris]YouTube - Hooded Fang - Highway Steam[/ame]

Am I the only one who has been finding the whole range of popular 'indie' music a little sameish lately? Or just modern music in general? Or maybe I've caught up to everything? Not to knock some of the wonderful stuff out there, but I'm bored. (Rant ahead) I mean there's lots of variety, but it's all within a certain range. It's done with a certain range of various instruments playing within a certain range of styles. Sometimes you get a little more dance music in the mix, or a little more hiphop or potentially a classically-inspired lick from the very brave, but generally it's a choice at the basic level between rock and pop. You have a guitars, singers, drumming, an…

From Los Angeles,California In just a year or so, soulsters Fitz & the Tantrums went from the living room to the main stage. The recipe for meteoric success? Six killer musicians, five dapper suits, irresistible songs, some serendipity and one vintage organ. Since their first show at Hollywood’s Hotel Café in December 2008, Fitz and co. have toured with Maroon 5, played to thousands at Colorado’s world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre, shared the stage New Year’s Eve with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and performed on KCRW’s esteemed show, Morning Becomes Eclectic, all this on the strength of their stellar five-song EP, Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. For some ba…

So it's been a few months since the last mixtape exchange, and it's now time for Mixtape Exchange #8! Previous mixtape exchanges have been hosted by Ms. Magpie, Redgirl76, David, The Escapist, and Ivet. The Coldplaying Mixtape Exchange is a fun way to discover new music while also giving you the chance to share music that you enjoy with other Coldplayers. Basically what happens is that you'll be given the name of the person who you will be making your mixtape for, and all you have to do is get together some songs that you really like, that go well together, and/or that your partner has most likely never heard before; but you must not let anyone know who you're …

Mine would have to be (I'm not sure how to put it in English) the evening song of a blackbird. And thunderstorms and the sound of rain when I'm underneath a roof. Hmm, and waves on a shore. And the voice of somebody I love.

Over the past year and a bit I have really gotten into the local music scene. For me I enjoy being able to go to shows, listen to music by people you know, hang out with them afterwards, maybe go out for a beer or talk about Captain Underpants. While the quality of the bands may not be on par with Radiohead/Coldplay/Muse/Arcade Fire/Mew (I'm sure that everybody on this forum likes one of those bands) they can still make some pretty legit music. Plus the shows are WAY cheaper which is awesome. Do you go to lots of local shows? Are some of your favourite bands ones from your town or ones from nearby that you see on a regular basis? I guess being at a small local m…

and it's been months since you took it out and haven't returned it, at what point do you just keep it and not bring up the fact that you still have it? I just realized I've had a CD I borrowed 8 months ago, for, yanno, 8 months, and I think the original owner's forgotten about it. Have I inherited it? Is it acceptable to just hold on to it? Or should I just make sure I ripped it and return it? Decisions, decisions.

opinions? i personally have never been fond of any of them except five iron frenzy's which are both some of my favourite albums of all time, so entertaining y0 (you guys should feel lucky that I didn't end up accidentally writing a whole essay about FIF just now) They better reunite in 2013 so I can see them live and make them all eat a handful of mayonnaise. :mean: so yeah, discuss i think it's a pretty hard thing to successfully pull off what do think of them or think makes a good one or ~*~whatever~*~? edit: holy cow it would be obvious i wrote this even if i was anonymous or something

When you look back at the history of recorded music out of the many bands that have come and gone there are always a few that define (and are the most strongly associated with) the time they come from. From The Beatles and Stones in the 60s to Pink Floyd and Led Zep in the 70s all the way to U2 and REM in the 80s and Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the 90s...* In your most honest opinion on the landscape of modern music (not just what bands are your own personal favorite) what bands do you see as being the future "iconic" bands of our era and why? 2000-2010? 2010-2020? Who has the popularity and musical importance to be so lasting? *the examples that I used are just that.…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Hudson I felt inspired to start a thread for her, as I think she's one of the best vocalists around at the moment. She only finished seventh on American Idol, but has gone on to be one of the most successful singers ever to have come out of that show. She also gave a stunning performance in the film Dream Girls, which earned her a deserved Oscar. One of the best female soul singers I've heard since Whitney Houston was at the top of her game (sadly no more). Respect is most definitely due! Jennifer Hudson with her Oscar in Chicago, where it was declared "Jennifer Hudson Day", March 6, 2007 [ame=http://www.yout…
