My iPod just broke, and I've got a few longish flights coming up this weekend, so I'm borrowing my friend's old iPod. It has no music on it at the moment. QUICK. Name the best albums you can think of for a long flight. You know...stuff that makes you want to explore, go on an adventure, etc. Looking to listen to some new stuff that I haven't heard before.

Anyone knows them? I just listened to their entire self titled album and it's amazing. It's lo-fi, it's summery, it simply made my day. It will make you feel good, I promise. If you like bands such as The Drums, Best Coast or Seapony then i reckon you'll like Beach Fossils. I can't wait to listen to their new EP now ! Thought of this question as I heard of yet more dispelled rumours of a Stone Roses comeback. Over the years many bands/groups have split up and reunited some successfully coming back other realising perhaps it was best for them to remain split. What do you make of reunions though? What do you make of bands that you love but do not exist but would be capable of a reunion? Take a band like The Smiths for instance. No band has ever been called out more for a reunion than they have and if tomorrow Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce announced they were getting back together I would be intrigued and excited but very sceptical. At the end of the day I think I would rather not see…

Its natural for us to love an artist as a person without actually knowing them personally, because of how much we love their music. But does it work the other way around? Question: Does your opinion of a musician affect your opinion of his/her music? For instance, if you loved a band and discovered they were not so great of people (for example: you met them and they were pricks), would you cease to listen to them? Has anyone experienced this? Discuss.

This has definitely been the week of CBC Radio 3 on the blog, but that is okay since it is the best music community in Canada. They are currently running a searchlight to find the answer to the question “WHAT IS THE BEST MUSIC WEBSITE IN CANADA?”. We’re honoured to be nominated alongside 49 other excellent Canadian websites. The way it works is you can vote once ever 24 hours over on the Radio 3 website. You don’t even need an account to log in (all though really it is worth being a member). If you enjoy the Broken Speaker then consider popping over there daily to cast your vote. Don’t worry, I won’t be forcing this down your throat with 18.95 posts per day asking you …

It's no secret, two of the most anticipated albums of the past 12 months were The Suburbs by Arcade Fire and The King of Limbs by Radiohead. While both albums had people who loved them and didn't love them, there seemed to be one common criticism based on length. With The Suburbs, we have a 16 track album that clocked in at an hour. There were a lot of people complaining saying there were too many songs, it was too long etc. With TKOL, we have 8 tracks clocking in at 37 minutes. We have had quite a few people saying it doesn't feel like an album, that there aren't enough songs on it, too short in length, etc. So the question is, what is a good album length? Ho…

BlueBeat sold Beatles tracks before they were legally available online BlueBeat.com owner fined $1 million for selling Beatles songs A website that illegally sold Beatles songs online for 25 cents each has agreed to pay record companies almost $1m (£625,000) to settle a lawsuit. BlueBeat.com, based in the US, streamed and sold music by The Beatles, Coldplay and others until it was sued in 2009. In the few days before it was forced to shut down, it had distributed more than 67,000 Beatles tracks. Judge Josephine Tucker ruled that the site had violated the music labels' copyright and was unfair competition. BlueBeat had denied wrongdoing, claiming that owner Han…
