I'd say it speaks to the intensity of the fans that we want to hear it ASAP. If I could listen to my favorite band's new album at any time but chose to wait a week... well, I don't know how I could call them my favorite band.

Anyway, only heard it once. Hard to say how I feel about it. HLH is still my favorite track, and Paradise is still just not right. I agree with most people that the UIF and UWTB are beautiful, but I didn't get into DLIBYH at all the first time through.

The production overshadows Chris' falsetto in UIF way too much. Hrumph.

i think the album is really uplifting. the songs are well balanced and interconnected. i enjoyed listening to it as a whole thing.

I just wanted to skip Major Minus so much .. it was my favorite new era song based on the live performances and effects on Chris´ vocal just ruined it.

I personally think, POC is the worst song coldplay has ever made, but i just can´t help myself - whole day i am singing - ¨Once upon a time somebody ran¨ .. it turned out to be so catchy :/

MX+Hurts like heaven - powerful opener ! before starting listening to the whole album i went to *quiet corner* with my earphones, but after MX i switched them to speakers and could´t stand still anymore! HLH studio version is way better than live, imho ..

Charlie Brown - love it so much . and the outro is really nice .. UFO and Us against the world are two heartwarming, beautiful songs .. loved them as well.

DLIBYH and UP with the birds - well, i have neutral attitude .. i didn´t like or hate it ..

well i give it score of 7 to 8

It's definitely a strange album. I totally understand why they kept on saying it's a concept album, because I really really do feel the story in it.

Strangely enough, the story reminds me of a mix of those weird Japanese animated films like 'Spirited Away' mixed with the huge, destroyed universe of Half Life with the songs being the journey of the main character in these environments.

Mylo Xyloto is a stunning opening sequence, and leads really nicely into HLH. A lot of people seem to say HLH is overproduced, but I personally really like the style of Chris' vocals in it and the mixed sounds. Jonny's riff near the end is simply awesome. Almost prefer it over the live version!

We've all heard Paradise - nice song, not the best, not close. Still love it though, it has a really nice feel to it.

Charlie Brown is frickin' epic. The opening sounds are weird and add to the atmospheric weirdness of it, then leading into the main riff is just class. It fits well, and could be a nice single along with HLH.

Us Against the World is my favourite song on the record. It's just so beautiful - it opens so nicely with Jonny's guitar and leads so well into the acoustic's with Chris' singing. It makes me reminiscent of the old days, and the first ever Coldplay concert I went to which made me the fan I am today (anyone who hasn't seen them live, get the fuck out there). The moment Will plays the piano near the end is stunning - it's so powerful, even though it's so simple (what Coldplay are always good at). A nice example of not too much production on a song.

M.M.I.X and ETIAW are also really nice - M.M.I.X gives you the feel of being in a new environment and feeling vulnerable yet excited to discover what's there. ETIAW definitely fits in more now that you can hear it with the album as a whole.

Honestly, Major Minus is my least favourite song on the album - It's cool, but somethings weird about it. It's a great song, but I dunno why, it just doesn't click. It almost seems like the middle song in the story, leading onto the new and more acoustic chapter. (I prefer the second half). Guy's bass is awesome on it though. Nicely mastered.

U.F.O reminds me of Wedding Bells. Maybe that's how it ended up as it is. The swells of the electronic sounds and 'orchestra' is lovely along with the guitar and Chris. The ending of U.F.O is beautiful. Wish it was a bit longer, would be a nice instrumental.

POC is nice, I like it. I agree with other people that Rihanna wasn't really necessary and Chris could've taken it all himself, but I get how it would be different without a female voice along with the story etc. It definitely adds something to it, just nothing major. Anyone could've done Rihanna's part, and there's lots off singers who could've done it better honestly. I like the broken synths on it, really nice touch.

Up in Flames - Nice beat, I get the Massive Attack influence there. Sweet song, mixes some classic Coldplay with the 'latest' Coldplay :L.

A Hopeful Transmission is a really nice remix of Mylo Xyloto, love the sounds.

DLIBYH is my favourite song along with UATW. Love the driving beats at the start, it just gets straight into it which is nice and suits the style. A really hopeful song. Makes you feel happy like. I really like the vocals, and mixes nicely with A Hopeful Transmission (the hearbeat sound is really bassy and a nice touch).

Up With The Birds - intro a bit like Christmas Lights anyone?; Anyway, lovely intro, very Coldplay like, if you get me; The added 'ah-uh' vocal is so lovely and an awesome touch! The swell of sounds and orchestral synths is purely stunning. Almost like you're going up with the birds..Then Jonny's guitar comes in and leads into some acoustics and the rest of the song. A really nice ending to the album.

Overall - Although I love this album, there's a lot that stop it from being perfect. I felt a lack of intimacy between us and the band, like you get in all the previous albums (more so AROBTTH), but the overall feel of the album together as a whole almost overcomes the need for some of those moments, because if you listen to the album as a whole you become so engrossed in the feel of it almost as if you're in this environment that Coldplay has created, and you're on a journey through this environment.

They've definitely changed. But that's not bad. ([email protected])

Love reading these opinions! I'm in the camp of waiting - I just can't bear to listen to it early for some reason. Excited reading the opinions though.

Mylo Xyloto - It's no Life In Technicolor.... 7/10

Hurts Like Heaven - Loved this live and had higher expectations for the studio version. Its still a good opener, just has room for improvement. 8/10!

Paradise - Though it is better in the context of the album, I will never love it. Their worst single release since The Hardest Part. 5/10

Charlie Brown - Good pop tune.... Good pop tunes should be introduced as a studio single before being un-leashed as a live BEAST!!! 8.5/10

Us Against the World - Could have been on AROBTH or Parachutes. Classic ColdPLAY and I love it... - 8/10

M.M.I.X. - Just an extension of ETIAW, or intro if you will. No rating.

Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall - I couldn't say this at first, because no song has ever grown on me more, but Fuck the haters! This song is fun and meant to get the people pumping their fists! Not whining for another FIX YOU! - 9/10

Major Minus - I love everything about this song. ESPECIALLY the stuff most people hate. I think it is my favorite on it, so far. It's loud, I can hear everything on it including Chris' whacked out, spacey, messed up vocals. I LOVE IT! Each listen it gets better and better 10/10

U.F.O. - See Us Against The World, but even better! Could have even been longer... 9/10

Princess of China - I like Rihanna and her music, but this is a Coldplay album... It's like a Rihanna song featuring Coldplay and not a good one. - 5/10

Up in Flames - Slightly repetitive, somewhat listenable. A little too moody for me right now and I could do with out the boom bah boom beat... Love the guitar work towards the end. - 7/10

A Hopeful Transmission - Fun little intro to DLIBYH, but these are sort of like the songs themselves... Not sure why they needed these...

Don't Let It Break Your Heart - I like this. A LOT! It has an urgency and a pulse that far exceeds any other song on the album. Wish they would have released this as the first single. Instantly enjoyable and hope it remains so... 9.5/10 If it stays as shiny and endures it will be a 10

Up with the Birds - The Last two songs are so strong! This is a great tune that should please all fans, new and old. BRILLIANT! 10/10

Overall first impression: Strong and fun with a ton of energy. Compared to the others, unfortunately it's not as good on the first listens, for me. VLV, Parachutes, and AROBTTH were instant classics. Much more enjoyable on first listens than X&Y was... It is as good as I was expecting, but didnt exceed my hopes. Coldplay will always be my favorite band, I suppose. This just isn't their best. Nor is it their worst... 7.5 of 10 over all. Maybe an 8.

I pre-ordered!

EDIT: There is NO REASON why Moving To Mars isnt on this album! It is more than worthy...

After a first two listens, I'm not impressed. Princess of China is atrocious, and it's not even Rihanna's fault. I hope I will ever be able to forget that this song exists.

Us Against The World is actually better on the album than live, which surprised me in a positive way. I was also surprised by DLIBYH (barring the last minute of the song). It's not that bad. But it feels a bit like an inferior Glass of Water. A Hopeful Transmission is awesome. The spoons are fantastic. Period. UFO is gorgeous, but I can't help feeling that they have done it before, and they called it Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground. Up With The Birds is odd, but I think I like it. I'm not very keen on Chris' singing in the second part though.

But overall, it's definitely their worst album yet. It doesn't flow like I hoped it would. It's just a patchwork of different things.

Full review coming soon, maybe next week.

THIS. <3

Amazing!! DLIBYH and UWB ... WOW!!!

I LOVE U.F.O! It's very Parachutes sounding. Hurts Like Heaven is awesome. I'm very pleased with the album. I really love Up In Flames. I know everyone is mixed with it, but it feels very old Coldplay to me, even if no one agrees :) Princess of China is still a shit song though.

Okay guys, i've heard it and here is what I think. Bear in mind that it is my first listen and I always like something more after the first listen:

Mylo Xyloto - I thought the live version was good, the studio version is amazing!!! Love the way it fades into what we recognise from the summer festivals

Hurts Like Heaven - Not sure about the voice effects but I hated the Major Minus effects at first but I love it know. Love Jonny's guitar!!!

Paradise - I already loved this song, now its even better with the whole album surrounding it.

Charlie Brown - just WOW!!!!! My favourite of the whole album. Every single aspect of it is smashing. From the speeded up voice at the start to the piano at the end - just PERFECT!!!!!

Us Against The World - Loving the start, excellent track. Different from the festivals and a great respite in between Charlie Brown and ETIAW!!

MMIX - There isnt much to say about the instrumentals really but this one is great!!!! It makes ETIAW seem even more amazing!!!!!

ETIAW - I already loved this song, now its even better with the whole album surrounding it. It would sound amazing wherever it was on this album.

Major Minus - I already loved this song, now its even better with the whole album surrounding it. Great contrast to ETIAW. Love the grinding guitar sounds! I have always found this track rather grating and manic. LOVE IT!!!!

U.F.O. - Great acoustic to pull everything back and calm it all down. Very similar to Prospekt's March. Nice and short and a good contrast to POC

Princess Of China - Love it, its gonna take a while to get used a woman singing on a Coldplay song but the synths and guitar make up for this. A definite number one when it is released as a single. I think the band handled Rhianna's inclusion well but Florence and the Machine would have sung it better!!! :sneaky:

Up in Flames - mmmm. I loved it instantly when I heard the recording from ACL. I just don't get the cheap, bassy drum beat which seems to drown Chris out on what is supposed to be an intimate moment for the album. Still love it though!

A Hopeful Transmission - An unexpected sound considering the title. Very strange for Coldplay to do a song like this but it compliments DLIBYH excellently.

Don't Let It Break Your Heart - Very nice. Similar to ETIAW, although I'm not feeling Chris when he said Jonny has reached a new zone of wonderfulness on it. Nevertheless a great track that helps signal the beginning of the end!

Up With The Birds - Not what I thought it would be. Maybe because its my first listen but I thought it would sound a bit bigger and close an excellent album with loads of different sounds well but I'm just not getting it at the moment. I'm sure I'll grow to love it but I was expecting a kind of Politik, DAAHF, Moving To Mars sounding song.

Oh well, on first listen - very impressed!! You can tell a whole load of work has been poured into this and thats what makes it all the better. I gave it an 8 on the poll but in a couple of weeks I would expect this to become a very firm 10!!! I prefer it to AROBTTH, PRCHTES and X&Y. The only question that remains: Is it better than VLVODAAHF?????

For me listen to the coldplay album before its official release is like opening Christmas presents early! But this album is GREAT !!!!!!!!!!! :D

<3 <3 <3

Well I like it a lot, at the moment. I was prepared for worse..

But the thing is all this festivals songs/singles doesn't make sense outside album. Together one piece to another. I can't stop listening it like the whole piece, though I don't like ETIAW and Major Minus a bit off. But with some shame I found Paradise quite good (perhaps because my lovely girl liked it, and she is not a fan). Like in Radiohead song "Everything in its right place" - everything was putted note to note there (aside Major Minus).

In perspective I understand now boys wanted some challenge, something wild, extraordinary, electronic, some concept album. Voila, you got it. And it still better than 90% of all other today mainstream music.

From some bits you clearly see they can put together brilliant clever stuff like it used to be - I mean Up With The Birds, Moving To Mars or U.F.O. But it wasn't the task. So after this era I will eagerly await LP6.

One thing for sure - they are growing, look I can listen now all this crappy kind of country style song - Us Against The World and Up In Flames.

ETIAW from this album is like Fix You or Viva, which I can stand, but always skip.

And in my opinion MX better VLV because it has some memorable songs like MX/HLH, Charlie Brown, U.F.O., Up With The Birds.

Just some messed thoughts. Perhaps everything will change in a month. Firstly I adored VLV but then I found it except cool sound soulless. So far it seems not the case with MX.

PS Also I'm complete noob in lyrics stuff, but I think Martin did some great work so we can shout some songs with great pleasure and articulation - for example HLV or Charlie Brown.

PSS I'm also sucker for xylophone :)

how a majority of you can rank the album 10/10 is just beyond me.

Those are the 'true' fans :P

I agree. Even if this would be the perfect album, if that exists, you can't rate it a 10 on the first day.

But that's just my opinion.

I still haven't heard it a second time, and it's weird how fast it fades. I can only remember things I didn't like.

Honestly? A 10. I am blown away by this record.

I like it... but then I like Paradise. Up with the birds is my favourite by a mile, but I also love Don't let it break your heart.. In fact as someone up there said, the last three songs are excellent. PoC is also better than I thought it would be.

Honestly? A 10. I am blown away by this record.

Same, by the time i'm familiar with the new songs i'll be blown even further away!!!!

Paradise and ETIAW have fallen into place now and they so much better songs for it!!!! Not that they werent amazing before though!!!

They should have left POC off and put Moving To Mars on. It probably would have messed with the flow, but I can't stand POC!
