LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Featured Replies

^ I'm feeling a November release as well. That gives the band another month or so to release a single, which seems to be about the right timeframe.

Unless they've scrapped part of it like they did back with X&Y  (and the supposed acoustic album that was supposed to be MX *cries forever*)

I just get the feeling Coldplay might have to go hard on this record. I've made it pretty clear that I'm a MUSE fan in areas of these forums, but I think if Coldplay maintain the pop antics that have been on MX and GS, it might prove damaging for the actual image of the band. I think it's fair to say Coldplay are no longer compared to the likes of radio head, travis, and oasis but now imagine dragons, maroon 5, and one Republic. I would love to see them do a drones, (recent release from muse) and try and shake off the poppy sound. I know bands need to change and evolve, but there have been a number of bands going a lot heavier and it's worked i.e muse and Mumford and sons. I think if Coldplay could find the depths that they once had lyrically and beefed up the sound a bit more, it could prove to be a very successful record.

I have made the one republic, maroon 5 point before and I agree with you more or less but.... I don't necessarily agree with your "beefing up" point. I think we would like to hear a "darker" sound so to speak, but a sound which is still Coldplay. An example being Violet Hill or Politik. Those songs aren't hard or beefed up by any stretch of the imagination, they just pack an emotional punch and have energy surging through them, bellicose.

There's no reason why this album can't satisfy all criteria. Especially since it's the bands final LP. Say, for example the new album has 10 tracks. It could take the following structure:

1. Dark piano opener (Politik)

2. Another Piano ballad, something like 42

3. Acoustic guitar song

4. An in my place, Strawberry swing type song where we get to hear Jonny's unleashed guitar in all its glory

5. Anthemic Song (ETIAW)

6. A speed of sound, X&Y like song

7. Another song featuring Chris's acoustic

8. Experimental Song

9. The dreaded EDM song here? :embarrassed:

10. Eno/ John Hopkins ambient closer. (The escapist)

This album has to be a great one since they aren't saying anything about it. They want to surprise us all. [emoji51]

Dance Dance dance...what a wonderful surprise a whole new album of musical bliss will be...can't wait for more magic [emoji95][emoji304][emoji445][emoji304][emoji445][emoji95]

... Unless Coldplay plays in the Global Citizen festival and plays new songs...

They need to release a single this month or next month for an album release in october. I'm thinking a November release?

Yeah, I think August-September is the crucial period (for the first single) if we are expecting a release by November unless they drop the album out of the blue (which is unlikely to happen). They usually release a single or two before the album's release.

I'd say we'll at least get to hear one song before they play Global Citizen.. If not, maybe they'll release the single right after playing it on their set.. But hopefully they aren't looking to play songs live to go back and edit what they feel needs to be changed in the studio later, that means more delays, like MX, they played new songs many months before we got to hear them recorded..

I think it will be one of two things. Either they are a lot further along with the album than we think, and will announce a September release, and surprise us all. Or as stated above, they will play a few new songs and then release late fall or early spring. I personally hope it's the first one. I would love to hear the album in its entirety without hearing songs live first.

So the band has confirmed they'll play on September 26th, i think we'll hear them play some new songs live like they did with mx.

after seeing this, chances of this being a contribution to lp7 era is doubtful..

Yeah just saw that, damn it!! Such an emotional rollercoaster in such short time.. Now I really have no idea, guess they'll just play the hits. :/

Yeah, they're playing a SHORT set, which suggests to me they wont be done their album near then.

what i'm thinking is, coldplay are going to go all out with this album's release, tour, promo, etc after the subdued affair with GS. so the first single will either be a full blown, radio friendly anthem or a more out-there/left-field song that would create some buzz (a la midnight). anyway, one thing we can look forward to is, coldplay promo similar to x&y, viva and mylo. so don't think this will be part of lp7 promo, rather a smaller support gig at a cause they support.

At least Chris recorded the Global Citizen video in a studio, which could mean that he is indeed working on AHFOD.

Whatever the first single is, I hope it won't be bland.

On another note....OMG, I just realized I will be in Boston in September, and the concert is in NY! If I could make it to NY on this day, this would probably be my one and only chance to see Coldplay live !! I don't think I would get a ticket though :-(

Wait, but I heard that the concert is free. That's what they said on MSNBC.

I feel like they are going to release a single that is very danceable. Every 1st single of a new era always has been a really big statement of where their music is going (also to stir up media attention). Whatever the track sounds like, I bet it will be big, loud, radio friendly, and dancy! Suddenly have a very strong feeling about this actually. Whether it will happen before Global Citizen or not, we'll just have to wait.

Well, you have to sign up at the Global Citizen page, promote their content vi Twitter, petitions, emails, calls etc. and only then can you enter the draw for the free tickets. Selling tickets is prohibited, so I guess either you're lucky or you aren't.

I won tickets last year, it's really not that hard and you learn a lot!

Not to be snarky, but was there any doubt?

That made me laugh  (especially with their announcement in mind last May). But I guess what the_escapist is trying to say here is that Chris had been away from the studio doing stuffs for the charity he is supporting and that video made it clear that recording is in progress (if not finished).

By the way, you had been quiet for a while. I guess you're waiting for facts :)

That, and I thought I'd let some others post a bit without me getting in the way.

I read most of everything and follow along and if I think of something worth posting, I'll chime in

I don't know if it will be danceable, but if their first singles have taught us anything, it's that it's going to get decent success. Then all of the sudden, the second single comes out of nowhere and becomes a chart topper! I can't wait.

All I want from this record is to feel again that sense of "coldplayness" that they've lost since MX, except for a few songs. And I always hope that Jonny convince the other guys to make a shoegaze record :wink3:
