All I want from this record is to feel again that sense of "coldplayness" that they've lost since MX, except for a few songs. And I always hope that Jonny convince the other guys to make a shoegaze record :wink3:

I find there's more of it in All Your Friends than in Ghost Story. Other songs like Midnight, Atlas, Moving To Mars have it, but they're plunged into a huge amount of forgettable songs. Also the fact that there's a lack of creativity in the production and a significant loss of originality into the lyrics makes me very worried about AHFOD

All your friends still sounds like a part of ghost stories to me, ghost story reminds me of arotth especially will's drumming at the end of the song. Moving to mars and atlas do have coldplayness to it but not midnight, it doesn't sound like coldplay at all, just chris singing.

I too would love even more melodic Ghost Story's and All your Friends type stuff. I still think they are definite B-sides and could have been more finely polished, but nonetheless that style might be a hint for what's come?

Erm . . . Simple but beautiful? An initial melancholy feel that you realize is actually hopeful as you listen to the lyrics?

For me, Coldplayness = lots of piano and guitar, which make Atlas and MTM fairly Coldplay to me...Midnight not so much.

 

I'd love a mix of boundary-pushing things like Midnight and piano/guitar-revival...Miracles might be an indication of how that might be implemented. Or not. :lol:

Well midnight does have the coldplay feeling. Check out your love means everything from them or Easy to Please. Its like the same vibe. Maybe the instruments are different but it is so much more the classic feeling of coldplay tha paradise or charlie brown

I hope they return to creating good melodies. For me, Coldplayness is also having amazing, memorable and powerful melodies - think of Trouble, Clocks, Speed of Sound, White Shadows, Politik, In My Place, A rush of blood to the head, What If, Viva La Vida, Lost, and many more ! MX still had a few interesting melodies, and GS imho had none with the exception of Ghost Story....I hope this downward trend can be reversed, at least to a certain extent.

I prefer charlie brown and paradise, both songs have The coldplay rock sound. Easy to please is similar to midnight but midnight is too electronic, it's a weird song to me.

Yeah but that is the thing. I believe that what is important is this vibe, yeah it have eletronic elements but still like something that cold would do, cos if you think in everyrthing they put in their discografy you have so much thing, and even some sound are rockier than others they all feel like something unique, original and that still keep this coldplay feeling, its hard to explain. For me MX have poor melodies compare to what they've done, the voices follows everytime the instruments and... well this is boring, theys are good songs indeed but I believe that in ghost stories you heard more of what coldplay used to do, something different that keeps this coldplayness, yeah you don't have the explosions of the past, but cold its not just about explosions, like I said in "Your love means everything" or "Easy to please" cold have already made some dark and wierd songs, so its ok if comes a midnight, and yeah its ok not to like it but I guess say that doesn't sound like coldplay at all a bit too much hahaha ^^

Well about powerfull melodies did you ever check it out spies from parachutes era alternarive version????

Man I don't know, parachutes its not my favorite but it does have songs with a great melody and power, high speed for example wow, "for you" its so simple but yet so beatifull. And man I think oceans as simple as it sounds a song that its not woooow the fucking awsome oldplay but it is really good and beatifull song, and about all your friend I think it is a awsome track and its better than some pearls of viva la vida, like cemeteries on London or lost!, lovers in japan is a tie to me. I just don't get it why some people thinks that ghost is very week, like you said early I don't get it where MX have more interesting melodies than GS, for me its the oposite haha. That's funny =P

I guess maybe I like this floating guitars of J and this mix with explosions that make me love what cold is, but maybe for you is something else. Another Viva record would be great. That's experimentation done right. While I believe ARoBTTH to be Coldplays zenith. VLV was perhaps the time when they were the most fresh, interesting and creative.

 

A mix of everything is likely in my opinion and would pretty much satisfy everyone. I think another X&Y type record would really bring the discography full circle and be a nice final addition. Although I think a lot of the time us Coldplayers don't really know what we want :P Let's just hope it's as interesting as Coldplay can be and not bland

At this point I've given up on all speculation as to what AHFoD is going to sound like. I just want to see the artwork :P
