Wow, what a treat. I personally like Spies as it is but this definitely feels like it could have been on Brothers & Sisters. It has a similar vocal style to Only Superstition and parts of Brothers & Sisters.

Their pre-Parachutes sound formula was so good, it's a pity they evolved in a different way. If you think that they were an emergent band their sound effects and ideas were quite stunning

Yes ! The early EP songs were masterful in creating atmosphere. Jonny's use of slide was a central asset back then, pity that it is almost absent nowadays !

Yes, it really seems like they didn't actually want to perform it...

I recently came across this performance from the X&Y era..but the organ/piano and acoustic/electric guitar seem to be played straight from the studio backing track..Jonny is just miming :worried2:

A lot of TV performances are tossed together for a lot of reasons. If you read Roadie I believe Matt spends a page or two talking about why. If I remember it's usually because you aren't given the time or space to set up so instead of having no organ or a really bad organ you just have a tracked organ.

I recently saw the X&Y interview CD for a bargain, and I couldn't resist.

Today I listened to Radiohead's new album, their LP9. I think it is a really good album, I love the soundscape and it sounds entirely different from today's mainstream. So Radiohead showed that after so many years, they are still something.

Of course Coldplay has always been more mainstream than Radiohead, but seriously, why can't Coldplay pull off an album like that ? Hope Chris listens to it and asks himself again if Coldplay wants to continue going down the pop drain into meaninglessness and oblivion or get themselves together and produce something significant.

I won't ever want them to become Radiohead, or at least, this Radiohead. Not because A Moon Shaped Pool isn't a good album (it is), but because we have to look at things with balance and not calling a masterpiece every album Radiohead put out.

Yes, we all agree Coldplay should take a less mainstream musical pattern, but I still think people overrated this new RH album, like every time they released something from 1998 on.
