I always love how Planeta Coldplay always creates this cool extended/cover/remix/ songs out of snippets and small portions of songs...ย
what do you think MOTS is actually going to sound like? Did we get it fully on the Glastonbury set? Or is it going to be longer?!ย
I think we have officially hear all of it, itโ€™s just an amazing intro....

Hi guys!!! Last Monday an Italian newspaper published a brief interview with violinist Davide Rossi. I'm Italian and live in Italy, so I promptly went to the newsagent's and bought the paper.ย In

I expect it to be 1st track and HP 2nd

My Universe will be 5 or 6 and HH will be 8 or 9

Agree!!! Itโ€™s lovely and celestial!!!!ย

I think we all know that MOTS will be an album, but I wonder how they will release music during this era. Gorillaz for example just did that "Song Machine" series where they collaborated with a bunch of artists and released EP's that eventually were put into one album, or "season" like a TV show.ย

There's also precedent for Coldplay releasing songs that don't make the next album (Atlas, Moving to Mars, Goldrush). I wonder if the MOTS era will have more to offer than just the singles and albums. At this point, HP (as Kaotica) and Human Heart, and the MOTS intro seem very likely for the album. But a possible BTS collab could be totally one off. I think it'd be cool if they did Planet EP's that have b-sides. So like a Kaotica EP featuring Higher Power & some alternative track. I doubt this will happen but we're in a weird holding pattern right now of knowing a lot but still open to big surprises.ย

Alien Radio itself teased Higher Power, but all those audio clips and languages translated must add up to something greater? I mean Higher Power as far as I can tell has no discernable lyrical point other than "I've been feeling down, you picked me up." which has nothing to do with Space, or Alice in Wonderland, or UFO's, or some of the other cool stories referenced on Alien Radio. Human Heart is the same. It's about boy and girl hearts and gender stereotypes. What's the theme here?

I kind of perceived HH as a human falling in love with an alien and being unable to be togetherย

I watched an interview (can't remember which one) where Chris was asked if the different alienradio snippets meant anything and he said they don't. So who knows if it's just a bit of fun marketing or if it'llย have a deeper meaning later on, and what they'll end up doing with that whole website. Same for the whole album conceptualisation with all the symbols etc. I hope it'll all mean something in the end.ย so far Higher Power might have a meaningful title but is otherwise not that deep so the album could be anything in the end.ย

What you said at the end is really interesting, and Iโ€™ve been thinking the same way... there is a reason why they decided to enter on this legal thing to get the name Music Of The Spheres, to my knowledge, you donโ€™t need a trademark to name a record, or produce merchandise, because anything you produce,ย would land under the brand โ€œColdplayโ€... it would be more like a copyright ยฉ... buts itโ€™s almost as if theyโ€™re creating a new brand or something like this... please let me know if Iโ€™m right or completely wrong about this because I know absolutely nothing about this legal stuff...

Anyhow, they are planning something big, they are expecting it to be big... who really knows what can happen?!! ???

I have been saying since I first saw MOTS and FFTF on EL that this is more then just an album I feel likeย ย they are creating something much bigger I have no idea what that is lol but I feel like itโ€™s something to do with uniting ppl I dunno if itโ€™s musical or charitable or what but Chris also said in interview recently that they have a focused plan ahead . Yes we will get a album but I think there is a lot more to itย

About theย stillย possibleย collab with BTS, I've just posted this on the subreddit:

I was just discussing onย the Coldplay discord with some friends and just came to the best possible conclusion for this whole collab controversy.

Coldplay could release "My Universe", or whatever the song might be called in the end, as a solo version and release a remix of the song, now featuring BTS. Lots of artists drop their own version of the song and later release it again featuring a bigger artist on it. The Weekend did that with "Blinding Lights" (remix features Rosalรญa) and "Save Your Tears" (remix features Ariana Grande). They could even release the BTS version as the original one and then include their own solo version as a sort of B-Side or bonus track.

In my opinion, that would definitely please both fans from each group and we, Coldplay fans, would always get to listen to their solo version and relies on it, for those who end up disliking the BTS one for whatever reason. Although, knowing our band, that highly unlikely since they've never released a remix of a song featuring another big artist, their remixes are always done with some kind of DJ or sound producer. The only exception to that would be Lost+ with Jay-Z, but it was never titled or labeled as a remix song though.ย

Let me know what you guys think about that. It would definitely manage to appease people who wouldn't want a collab, while satisfying those who'd be excited for it. Maybe this could reach out the boys somehow and they might change their plans? Who knows?

Pretty much all of the clips have been "identified" so far as being connected eitherย to Coldplay in general (references to Fender, drums, Yellow etc) ; the concept of Music of the Spheres ; Space (could be about the general context of MOTS or about the HP launching event) ; or Higher Power (there are a couple with some higher power lyrics and there's the Swedish one which is likely a reference to Max Martin). The Alice in Wonderland one is allegedly a signature from the creative agency Rabbit hole.

Some have not been interpreted fully yet. For instance there's one about isomorphism?ย I definitely think they are about MOTS as a whole and the website will be used to tease future releases related to MOTS. Maybe they'll add or completely change up the stations at some point.

I do think there is a clear connection between that universe and both songs. Both songs seem to be a reference to the human condition vs supernatural. Higher Power is about the power of love essentially, so powerful it goes beyond what we expect ofย human capabilities. Human Heart is about accepting that we are only humans and we do with what we have. There is an underlying comparison between humans and what we could imagine aliens are like. You know?

OhMYGOD you guys I thinkย Iย just figured out the "isomorphism" thing right after posting that :laugh3:ย

I had googled that concept during the first alien radio days and i was like "uh okay i know why i didn't do more maths" :laugh3:ย

BUT hear me out hear me out

Here's the definition onย wikipedia:

Quote

Inย mathematics, anย isomorphismย is a structure-preserving mapping between two structures of the same type that can be reversed by anย inverse mapping. Twoย mathematical structuresย areย isomorphicย if an isomorphism exists between them. The word isomorphism is derived from theย Ancient Greek:ย แผดฯƒฮฟฯ‚ย isosย "equal", andย ฮผฮฟฯฯ†ฮฎย morpheย "form" or "shape".

The interest in isomorphisms lies in the fact that two isomorphic objects have the same properties (excluding further information such as additional structure or names of objects). Thus isomorphic structures cannot be distinguished from the point of view of structure only, and may be identified.

AND here are some pictures when googling the term:

Isomorphisme de graphes โ€” WikipรฉdiaProblรจme de l'isomorphisme de graphes โ€” Wikipรฉdia

Am I crazy or does this also remind you of:

- The general message in Coldplay which is "you and I are the same and equally important"

- Higher Power lyrics : the universe CONNECTEDย

So that would mean that the radio message about isomorphism fits in the Higher Power reference category.

0k, so it looks like right now everyone is discussing about a collab with BTS. Let's turn you all crazy: what if the hypothetical K-pop collab is not with them, and it is with a feminine band like Blackpink instead? How you like that?

Shameless self plug, my band is called Racemates (https://racemates.bandcamp.com/), named after a similar concept in chemistry which is that it's possible to have compounds with 4 distinct atoms (eg a Carbon bonded to a Hydrogen, Oxygen, Fluorine, and a Chlorine) and even though there's exactly the same atoms, 2 distinct arrangements in space that are mirror images and non-superimposable. We call the two versions left- and right-handed, and the mixture of left- and right-handed compounds with the same atoms are called "racemates" or a "racemic" mixture. Read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racemic_mixtureย

It's a type of isomorphic!ย

that's awesome @MosesTheMarshmallow!!! I'll check y'all out.ย

And yes @Coeurlithat's helpful! It took me a super long time to understand what the heck AHFOD was about & I had no idea MX told a story until Coldplay said so. I guess I've been hoping for a while that if the band did a "concept album" that the concept would be really apparent and clear. So now we have this "planet" concept and space, but it feels like it's going to another album where you kind of have to do your homework and piece to the loose/general themes together to get it. I guess I was hoping for more than "you're a star, universe, moon, color" type lyrics.

I can already see the interviews when MOTS is released an someone asks "so what's the concept behind the album" and Chris says, "well we like space, and so we wrote a bunch of songs but we think of them as planets because they exist on their own but also are connected, you know what I mean. So the planets are the spheres and this is the music of those planets." And the interviewer is like "wow yeah brilliant," even though they have no idea what Chris is talking about lol.

ย

I'mย hoping for something in the Pink Floyd-direction or a bit more like Moving To Mars or just arty in some way. It would be very fitting regarding the space-theme and because they can sound that way.ย

Though I like Higher Power it's not the kind of style I would have hoped for really.

The track "Music of the spheres" sound more like what I would love the album to sound like, but would have been awesome with a whole album in that style with some space rock thrown in.

But Coldplay have become very diverse soundwise with all collabs etc so I don't expect a concept album in that way I'm afraid.

Edited by Famous_Old_Painter

Yeah I think I'm expecting a AHFOD-type era in terms of pop/alternative balance. Higher Power may end up being a mid-album track like AOAL, Human Heart might be in the middle as well. It sounds like MOTS is gonna open up the album and in your left ear, you can hear a slow low-frequency build up that will likely transition into the first track. I know some folks think that it's HP -- but I feel like that transition isn't very clean sounding. I suspect a different opening track. I then think we'll get at least 2 more big pop singles featuring some big artists, and then two or three more alternative songs, maybe a big space rock outro like Up&Up.ย

This is a pretty realistic prediction. I also agree MOTS to HP is sort of a funky transition and reminds me of how VLV noticeably has a different track 1-track 2 transition between the album and live shows (LIT -> COL vs LIT -> Violet Hill).ย

I feel like every album that people have hated has had "something for the Oldplayers" - UATW/UFO/Charlie Brown, Fly On/the guitar solo in True Love/Ghost Story/Oceans, AHFOD/Everglow/Amazing Day/Up&Up, and much of EL (esp title track, Trouble in Town, Daddy). Ironically, there's sort of a weird non-overlapping set of populations who like some of the songs I've just named and dislike others. But this is my guest guess at which ones are the ones that appeal to Oldplayers and naysayers.

So for this album, I'm putting my money on one 9 minute space opera atmospheric Pink Floydian X&Y track as the new version of UFO. Another 80s-esque thing I could see happening would be some proper slap bass funk (which HP is like 50% of the way there, with the way Guy plays the bass on that song). But I'm thinking like Panic Station by Muse. But who knows!ย
