On this day 3rd July 1969, Brian Jones drowned while under the influence of drugs and alcohol after taking a midnight swim in his pool, aged 27. His body was found at the bottom of the pool by his Swedish girlfriend Anna Wohlin. The coroner's report stated "Death by misadventure", and noted his liver and heart were heavily enlarged by drug and alcohol abuse. Jones was one of the founding members of The Rolling Stones and in the early 60’s used the name "Elmo Lewis." Read more http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/pages/brian_jones

How is there not a thread for her?! She's amazing. Her new album just came out a couple of weeks ago and I cannot, and I repeat CANNOT stop listening to it. I can relate to it so much. Too much. "Bluebird" has to be one of the best songs ever written. Oh, and I'm seeing her October 16th! Can't wait!

If any of you listen to Alternative stations (thanks Sirius XM), you may have heard of Atlas Genius. They currently have 3 songs: Trojans, Backseat, and Symptoms, respectively. "One of the most beautiful and moving works I've heard in a long, long time. Just astonishing." -NPR's All Songs Considered "Hospice is a skyscraping blend of the ambient and the anthemic, a record that swings for the bleachers at a time when it's fashionable to bunt." -Pitchfork "A concept piece populated with slow-motion feedback cyclones, melodies lifted from nursery rhymes, cavernous loud/soft shifts, and lyrics fixated on life’s little themes: love, death, and guilt." -The Onion's A.V. Club "Hospice is a work of rare beauty and a watershed moment in The Antlers’ career." -Tiny Mix Tapes "Hospice is at once the simplest and most immense album of…

The new site was first announced last year, but has hit setbacks due to Mr Dotcom's legal situation New site Megabox from Megaupload's Kim Dotcom Megaupload owner Kim Dotcom has announced his plans to launch a new website, despite still being under arrest. The 38-year-old tweeted an image of Megabox, a site he said would allow recording artists to sell music directly to fans. It is not clear when the new website will be launched. Mr Dotcom was arrested in January in New Zealand because, alleged the FBI, his site was being used for piracy. Speaking about his new site, Mr Dotcom tweeted: "The major record labels thought Megabox is dead. Artists rejoice. It is co…

Haven't looked thoroughly, but I can't see a thread for these guys. Five-piece indie-rock band from London, England. Fronted by Fred Macpherson, formerly of Les Incompétents and Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man. They finished 3rd in BBC's Sound of 2012 poll in January, and have supported Florence and the Machine.

Now I'd venture to guess that if there is one genre that most of you guys are not fond of or even look down on, it's Pop music. But I thought it would be interesting to see out of everything what are some pop records or pop artists you can really vouch for... or even just tolerate. I'm actually curious to know about what you guys will answer :)

This thread has been created in order to promote under the radar bands. There are so many great bands out there, and each week, I will try to promote at least one band, depending on the popularity of this thread. If you have a band and you want me to promote you in this thread, feel free to send me a private message. Feel free to reply and provide feeback in this thread.

So, I didn't see a thread for this but unfortunately BeeGees co-founder Robin Gibb passed away today at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer. http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/20/showbiz/robin-gibb-dies/index.html It's a shame, I really love his music. I was really happy when he came out of his coma, but I guess it was just his time. I don't really know what to say other than we'll always have his music. R.I.P man. Hello! I am a new member, and I couldn't find an M.I.A. thread so I'd thought I'd start my own. I was at first a bit scared of what people would say but I thought "sod it, I'll do it!" M.I.A. is an electronic artist - however she's unique and very creative. My favourite album is Kala. This is in honour of her!

Hello My name is Phytoplankton I have started three new threads today in honour of my favourite artists (however I did not realise there was a M.I.A. thread already - doh!). You may not have heard of him as he died in the 70s, but Nick Drake was an exceptional artist. He was a brilliant poet and guitar player. Though sadly, he died aged only 26, and during most of his later years he was depressed. His music was beautiful, and Northern Sky, one of his songs, is the peak of musical beauty. Artists such as Kate Bush, Paul Weller, and Peter Buck have cited him as an influence. http://www.nickdrake.com/

A thread on two levels. For either music that you have just heard but they don't have a thread yet and you want to test the water. Or also if you've stumbled across a band and they aren't quite for your liking but you feel other members on the board would appreciate it. The best way to contribute to this (I have found) is to check out your last fm recommended artists functions. It just occurred to me how many times I've given a band a one minute listen, thought they were decent and others would like them, but then forgotten about them. This way, the music doesn't get forgotten. You don't have to specify whether you like it or not. Can just be a mini dumping ground f…
