It's time for the second annual Songs of the Year thread! Rules: 1. Make a list of 5 to 25 songs, ranked numerically. 1. Eligible songs must have been released between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of 2012. 3. The songs can come from any singles, albums, EPs, compilations, or soundtracks, as long as they are original work. No live songs or rereleases. 4. You may list more than one song per artist. Deadline: December 31 2012 at 11:59 pm GMT. I will count up the votes and post the results soon after the deadline. Note that this time I will do the scoring system a little bit differently, the same way that Space Cadet assigned points in her Albums of the Year threads: …

  2. Damien Hirst's 2013 Brit Award statue unveiled Artist Damien Hirst has unveiled his original design for this year's Brit Award. It's the third year in a row a famous British artist has put their own stamp on the statue. Hirst's design has the award, Britannia, covered in his famous spots. It'll be presented to this year's winners during the ceremony at London's O2 Arena on 20 February, which will be hosted by James Corden for the fourth time. Brits Chairman David Joseph said: "Damien is truly one of the most important British artists. "His reimagining of the statue will make winning a 2013 BRIT an even more special proposition." Last year's statue was de…

The greatest band over the past little while that I have started liking. I know some of us like them on here... so I thought I would make a thread. (I made an Arcade Fire thread before, and no one replied to it, and they are a fabulous band, so I wouldnt be surprised if no one replied to this either.)

  6. I was wondering why there wasn't a thread for 2012 songs - hearing a song from an album or EP might just be the hook that draws people into that musician's discography. Not to mention that there's some good songs worth hearing from otherwise forgettable albums (I'm looking at you Sleigh Bells). Enough rambling - here are some 2012 songs you need to check out (and I'm sure I'm leaving off a bunch of other great songs): Actress - Actress Meets Shangaan Electro Akkord – The Drums Beach House - Irene, Lazuli, Myth, On the Sea Burial - Ashtray Wasp, Kindred, Loner (just get the Kindred EP!) Burial/Four Tet - Nova Chromatics - Back From the Grave, Kill …

I was listening to this song the other day and the band reminded me of Coldplay especially the singer. I really like this song and it somehow gives me memories............................:D [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlZPaUaiXA8]GANGS OF BALLET - Hello Sweet World - YouTube[/ame]

Hey, are they any Porcupine Tree fans here? I believe that they are one of or if not the greatest band out there today. Their new album "Deadwing" is simply mind-blowing and deserves a look (as do their past albums including "In Absentia"). It's so underrated. Porcupine Tree themselves are underrated. So why not give them a shot? Check them out. Any fans share my opinion?

It's time for the annual Albums of the Year Poll! (actually it's a bit late; pssst) The rules are the same as always: Make a ranked list of your 5 to 25 top original studio albums released this year and post it in this thread. After the deadline, there will be a countdown of Coldplaying's favourite new albums. The deadline is Saturday, December 15th at 23:59 GMT Original studio albums only, please. No EPs, live albums, reissues, or compilation albums. Cover albums allowed. Soundtracks must be primarily original material. For example the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack was not eligible, but the Scott Pilgrim original score was eligibl…

  12. Well I made this thread to discuss anything you want about music critics. Which ones you like, which ones you hate. Since I got into music as a teen, I used to get happy when I read good reviews of albums that I liked or get offended of reviews bashing artists that I liked. Now, I just don't care anymore, really. I don't know why I used to take their opinion so seriously (Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NME, Q, etc.) So what's your opinion about music critics. Do you follow them. If yes, which one/s? I read Pitchfork a lot just to discover new music. That's it.

  13. I'm going to a Green Day concert at the Emirates Stadium and I was wondering if it is actually possible for someone to meet a band or get autographs or a picture or whatever at a concert, without having a VIP pass or paying tons of money. If you have done any of this, how was it? Were the band as you expected them to be? Thanks in advance. :)

I'm making a playlist of love songs, which shouldn't be too hard, but the catch is that I want them to be almost achingly sincere. None of this Taylor Swift Coldplay Rihanna Maroon 5 whatever BS. Are there any original suggestions out there? And I thought it would be a good topic for what may pass as sincerity these days. Muchos Gracias.

Chris and I have been chilling lately to the sounds of Pogo, a musician from Western Australia who composes music entirely from sound-bytes taken from movies. It's really innovative and fun to listen to, check him out here: http://www.myspace.com/pogotracks My favorites are Splurgenshitter and Anna, but they're really all fantastic. Let me know if you enjoy them! He hasn't even been signed by a record label yet, which is amazing to me.

Anyway, I was thinking of taking up journalism, so I could become a music journalist for a magazine like Kerrang! or something. You may be thinking that I only want to do this to meet my favourite band, but that's not the case. It's just that IT and English are my only good subjects at school. I've always been really interested in rock music and I'm already writing reviews for albums in my notepad. I've done Green day's UNO! and American Idiot, aswell as Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto. I've got about 20 music magazines, and use them for inspiration. Are any of you guys journalists for magazine, websites, forums, newspapers, freelance, etc..? Thanks in advance!! :)

I guess "Born To Die" is my most anticipated album of next year (besides Miike Snow's and The Temper Trap's:p). Her voice and style is amazing! My brother recommended her to me just yesterday and I fell in love immediately! :) We drove in the car and he was playing some songs so I asked him "who's that?" and he said "Lana Del Rey". Thank you brother! =)

Share your thoughts on the music news of 2012. Any albums you've listened to that you were satisfied, disappointed, of even surprised with? Any albums that you've anticipated? Anything you're expecting? Those are just the basic questions to get you guys started off with. Enjoy!

After seeing them live here in Miami, I simply fell in love with their music. The way they play fitted the concert as a whole instead of when Robyn played. Personally, they sound a whole lot more lively while performing live (Guess it makes sense xD). So, what's your thoughts an opinions on them?
