LP6

Featured Replies

I don't think that they make music just to sell it. They still love what they do and put their soul and love in it. The rumours that LP6 will have a similar sound to LP2, gives me really much hope. And, LP6 in may would mean first single in march? which is like in a little more then 3 months from now.

wow, 2014 is close.

No, I also don't think that's their intention. They like change, and they are influenced by more popular commercial music (Rihanna/jayz etc.). In the beginning Indie bands like Radiohead were there main influence.

But they are more commercial now anyway, that's how they come across, most people share that opinion. Not that it's a bad thing. I love the Viva album, which has a much bigger commercial sound. But at this point after Mylo it would be the perfect time to go back to the old Coldplay, back to there sober melancholic sound that just had such unique quality. Less para para polished music.

Yes, another a rush of blood album would be so brilliant!! 'fingers crossed'..

"the sounds are close to A Rush Of Blood To The Head"

My initial reaction:

After realizing its just speculation:

Yellow is just as commercial as Paradise though. Seriously.

Even more so in my opinion.

There's a piano in the common room of my dorm building.... I cant tell you how many time I've heard The Scientist, Clocks, and Viva la Vida played. MX might be their most obscure album to date.

This is an interesting metric. I go to uni too and see the same trend. I think an explanation (that doesn't necessarily reinforce or discount what you're saying, I'm just observing) for this is that none of MX's songs are very easy for a single person to just sit down and play and sing and sound good on. Paradise requires drums to sound good, ETIAW requires electric guitar, HLH requires electric guitar...even UIF needs drums. The only ones I could see a person play on their own is POC and CB but those don't sound that good on piano anyways.

That's very true. Although UIF would totally work with just piano, its more of a deep cut than a monster single like the others, so I wouldn't expect hearing that anyways.

This would be a perfect time to make a Rush of blood like album. They are more commercial than ever and combine that with strong critical acclaim, this could be their biggest album.

Lads, they would do whatever they think right. I mean it's an obvious desire from our side and they won't make another Parachutes or AROBTTH, each album is unique and different, and I bet they tired about playing Yellow, Clocks and Viva again and again.

They are different persons now, and you could feel it from their music. They enjoy the bright side of the life and they want to share this feelings.

I dare to say that after almost 2 years I started appreciate MX and think it's probably the best album overall - you can't listen just one song, it's like a book, I often listen it from start to the end and it works best that way. and live gigs works even better.

So whatever they decided I believe it would be another gamechanger.

I don't think they're tired of Yellow, if you see them playing it live, so much passion. And about Clocks... yes they are tired of it I think, I've heard Clocks two times live now, and it's seriously not at the level of the rest of the concert.

There's just one thing I don't get. All the albums before MX had much hits, but at the MX tour they just played all those songs which aren't that special to hear. They should replace In My Place, God Put A Smile and Clocks with other singles like Don't Panic or Life in Technicolor II...

They can replace songs like Clocks or In My Place but not God, that's their best song live, they have been playing that song live since 2001 and every tour they change something about that song that lead it to be their best song live, just compare the 2001 version with the 2012 one, now do the same with clocks or in my place, they haven't changed that much, so replacing them wouldn't be such a loss

But the problem is I think, that on concerts a lot of people (maybe even the majority) only know the hits like Clocks and In My Place so these songs seem crucial to be in the setlist, even though a lot of fans would like to hear something different.

They wouldn't replace Clocks though, it's one of their biggest and most recognized hits. But I could understand replacing IMP (they gotta have a new Buckin moment though, then  )

^ I like Im Place more but whatever

Back on the speculation: I don't think they would go back to the A Rush Of Blood sound now, Atlas showed they seem pretty comfortable with the new style from Viva/MX. Maybe on a 7th album.

The five that they'll never replace are Yellow, Clocks, Fix You, Viva la Vida and Paradise. Which I think is fair enough really when you consider their ethos that it could be someone's first gig or their last gig: they'll want to see those ones, at least.

It's not like with Muse, where there's a massive proportion of the fanbase that despise these big hits, either. Sure, they're not our favourites, but they're a lot of people's, a lot of more casual fans certainly.

I think MX was an attempt to find that "new" hit. I wouldn't be surprised if LP6 feels more personal.

Add to that list The Scientist. It's just as much of a hit as Yellow and Paradise at least.

I love The Scientist, but does the MX tour show that it isn't as important to the band as before? It was played surprisingly soon in the set, and it wasn't even included on the main film of Live 2012. I hope it never happens but could they be prepared to drop it?

I want Politik back in the set.

Would love this, but to me it's the opening song of the set if it's in. Wouldn't be right anywhere else :(

They always open with the first song of the current album, though, don't they? :\

They do, which is why I can't see Politik getting back in the set :/

for me it would be right anywhere, it's my all-time favourite (together with fix you)

Fair enough- the second part of Politik is one of the most beautiful pieces of music Coldplay have ever made in my opinion

from the twitter Q&A last year:

@milacamargos - @coldplay Seriously, why Politik is out of the setlist? #coldplaylive

@coldplay - Will says: "To use a football analogy, it's played 10 seasons in a row and it needs a rest" #coldplaylive

I just hope the rest is over :p

I think they could get away with replacing The Scientist with another piano ballad like Amsterdam, ENL or DAAHF. Or maybe a new song, like how they replaced Politik with DLIBYH on the stadium tour.

I think most people on this website who have been listening to Coldplay for a while and have seen quite a few shows, are getting tired of songs like Clocks, VLV, Fix You, Yellow, etc. At least I know I do (that's why I though the encore for the last tour was a little disappointing). They'll probably keep playing those for the casual fans, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, though I would love to see them be daring and drop a bunch of the old singles and mess around with their set a bit more.
