Why do you think every single piece of music is supposed to be dreary and carrying only one emotion? Believe it or not, music is supposed to be what the artist intends it to be. (I know.) Bob Dylan will forever be cherished as one of the greatest poets in modern history, and even though he'll mostly be remembered for his politically-driven songs, do you not think he has songs that are happy and make you want to dance? Of course he does. (God even 'old Coldplay' had plenty of happy songs, but I don't see anyone complaining about those!) Look at Radiohead. Look at Noel Gallagher. Look at Muse. Look at any other artist or musician who does what they do. Why should they be limited to one feeling for the entirety of their life as a musician?

Upbeat is not the same as dancey. It is often said that "Oldplayers" only want sad songs, but that's not true. We love stuff like Crests of Waves or Viva La Vida. I would say these two songs are upbeat but in a more alternative (CoW) or artistically unique way. AOAL sounds just like any other mainstream dance pop song of the 2010's. I think we feel AOAL is upbeat in a very superficial way. (For me, Viva La Vida is the perfect upbeat/happy song, despite its lyrics)

I have decided to refrain from listening to Adventure of a Lifetime until A Head Full of Dreams is out or whenever it leaks.

I don't wanna be sick of AOAL by then...instead I will be excited to hear it again instead of wanting to skip it to get to the next track. I tried to do this with Magic but I didn't have the willpower. I was sick of it for a while...now after a break I love it more than ever. If/when Hymn for the Weekend is released I'll limit myself to five listens. Then, when AHFOD is out, after I hear the complete thing, I'll listen to what I want, when I want :cool:

This will be hard because AOAL is such a good song!

This song is so much better than A Sky Full of Stars, I love the way it flows almost no stop without a proper chorus, I get some Daft Punk vibes from it and I really like it.

OMG dude same here .. lmo i do this with every album i do failed every time with FIRST single .. i listened to Magic allot compared to ASFOS but it will be easier with AHFOD since it's a short period between the single and the album release

 

i listend to AOAL 3 time until now same goes with amazing day :D

It's not that I'd never get tired of listening to it on repeat. I don't usually do this with new CP songs, and feel the same way as you when other people say they've listened to a song half a million times in three days.

 

But this one really hits the right spot with me. I've been basically addicted to it since it came out. But I'm sure after I get tired of listening to it all the time I'll still love to listen to it occasionally like other good CP songs.
