Red Rum trainer Ginger McCain dies aged 80 Ginger McCain, trainer of the legendary Grand National winner Red Rum, has died aged 80 after suffering from cancer. McCain guided "Rummy" to three victories and two second places in a five-year period during the 1970s. New season starts soon. Looks like it will be more fun than the last one. Just saw a preview on youtube and now I'm all excited. Once again all the Lost and Heroes fans who live on the wrong continent to see it when it first airs can laugh at me. Hope the CBC doesn't wait to pick it up this time. Though at least watching on a computer makes it easier to fast forward some of the nastier bits... Why does 'adult' automatically mean 'gory and immature' anyway? Kind of ironic. Anyway, big preview (massive spoilers): Any other fans out there?

Mr Hain was speaking after divers were forced to turn back as they tried to reach the miners trapped at Gleision Colliery near Cilybebyll, Pontardawe. Charles Bresnan, 62; David Powell, 50; and Garry Jenkins, 39, from the Swansea Valley; and Phillip Hill, 45, of Neath, have been trapped for nearly 24 hours. About 50 rescuers are at the scene. Police are due to give an update at a news conference at 08:30 BST. The Neath MP said it was a "harrowing" situation for families and friends awaiting news at a nearby community centre…

Red or Black crowns its first millionaire Simon Cowell's new game show Red or Black made one very lucky man a millionaire on the first show of the series last night. Nathan Hageman was reduced to tears and could barely speak to presenters Ant and Dec, only to say: "Is this real, thank you, is this happening?" Speaking afterwards, the 31-year-old bricklayer said: "I didn't think I would get through, I couldn't believe it. I have never had any luck, apart from the family I've got. It means everything to me; I can change mine and my family's life." For the 1,000 contestants, the chances of winning the jackpot are very slim with the finalists whittled down until…

Hello all! I hope I'm not going against any ToS here, but I want to plug the sketch comedy group I'm in called "Tied for First." We BARELY started and I wanted to get some feedback and I figured why not try the Coldplay community!? Our goal and vision is to create original (or as original as original can get nowadays) comedy sketches and make people laugh. We are looking to release at least one new sketch per week (Tues/Wed) and we hail from Chicago, IL. Here is our latest sketch that asks the question "what if Facebook upgraded to Real Life Notifications?" Well it might be something like this... Before you all say anything, I did NOT drop my iPod or do anything that might damage it. It's in perfect condition, with the exception of the sleep/wake, aka hold button. :shifty: Basically, it doesn't recognize when I press it. . .but then it has a life of its own. It spastically goes on and off whenever it wants to. I held it vertical for 10 minutes, with absolutely nothing touching the hold button the whole time, and for the entire 10 minutes it was blinking and spazzing out. I tried restoring my iPod in case that may fix anything, but it did nothing. This iPod is less than a year old (got it early November 2010) so I'm ridiculously pissed that it would break …

Are there any other 24 junkies out there besides myself? I'd like to know who else here enjoys the show and why. I like it for the suspense. Also, I'm currently watching the season 4 marathon on A&E. I've only seen season 1, I'm halfway through season 2. But I'll soon be ablw to claim that I've watched season four.

Southampton footballer Dan Seaborne has suffered serious head injuries in an attack outside a nightclub in the city. Seaborne, 24, was found collapsed on the pavement outside Junk nightclub, London Road, in the early hours. The defender, who signed from Exeter last year, was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital. Hampshire Constabulary said he was found with "serious and potentially life-threatening" injuries and that two men, aged 35 and 29, had been arrested. Southampton General Hospital said it was a "police matter" but that Seaborne was now in a serious but stable condition. The area around the nightclub has been cordoned off. A pol…

Hurricane Irene: Emergency declared in six US states Six states along the east coast of the US, from North Carolina to New York, have declared emergencies ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Irene. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in parts of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and North Carolina. Irene, now leaving the Bahamas, has already caused havoc in the Caribbean. States of emergency have been declared in North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. President Barack Obama also declared an eme…

U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne is of course a svelte young product of Oxford University. And yet, for all that, tomorrow he’s going to look a lot like a fat lady singing. For on Wednesday we’ll finally see his comprehensive spending review, the bonfire of the State his government was elected to set alight. The public sector will be asked to make the ultimate sacrifice for Queen and credit rating by shrinking itself, probably by more than 80 billion pounds, with the aim of completely eliminating the U.K.’s horrible structural deficit. Politically and socially this is going to be a watershed in U.K. life unseen since the Thatcher years, but what will …

Capitalism in crisis, a warning from history: Eighty years ago, a banking collapse devastated Europe, triggering war. Today, faith in the free markets is faltering again Exactly 80 years ago, international capitalism stood on the verge of meltdown. The collapse of the banking system in the summer of 1931 sent shockwaves through Europe, bringing governments to their knees and thousands out onto the streets. In the United States, an increasingly careworn president and his congressional critics fought a bitter battle over government spending and tax rises. And in Britain, with the Labour government broken by the economic crisis, a Conservative-dominated coali…
