LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Theres something about those japs. Somehow they get all the bonus. Well, at least the rest of us aren't missing much this time with it being on Miracles.

It's true. Artists usually has a different setlist for the Japanese market (mostly bonus tracks in the end)... the so called "Japanese Edition".. and I really can't understand the logic behind it. I mean there are some instances that an album has a deluxe edition but also has a Japanese version. Can't they just release a standard setlist or the deluxe edition if they want to further promote the album?

Can we expect horns in Birds? I sure hope so!

Or strings. He did the strings for Viva

Or strings. He did the strings for Viva

Yeah but a while ago he said he was doing strings and horns on the new album.

I would be fine with those instrumentals if each one were part of the same track as its parent song. It's annoying when I put my Coldplay in iTunes on shuffle, M.M.I.X. plays, and then Swallowed In The Sea comes on right after. It kills the flow.

Dude, don't put interludes in your playlist.

Just did the preorder of my copy of AHFOD :D

The performance of Amazing Day on TFI Friday was amazing to say the least. Check it out! And this folks is why you can't judge a song the first time you hear it.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams" (DEC 4TH - Tracklisting in first post)

To be honest, Amazing Day preformed friday was freaking amazing. Its actually one of the songs im looking forward to now. Does anyone else have the feeling that this album will make people take Coldplay serious? Like i know it only matters that we like the band and everything, but its cools to have the band be publically acknowledged as a good music group. I also had this thought. Coldplay could change the way bands work! Instead of bands being restricted to one genre, they could release different types of music everytime they release an album. Why have a band be tied down by a genre that forces them to only sound one way? Coldplay has done rock, alternative, indie, pop, EDM, and disco. Coldplay is revolutionary

They've already tried out so many genres and they seem to really enjoy varying their sound, so your idea isn't unlikely at all. Imagine the possibilities. :) I wish more modern popular artists would do the same thing.

I have only found good comments on youtube regarding the song.

Then you've obviously looked at only 5 comments. About 80% of the comments section is full of closed-minded people who don't even care to look closer and look at the fact that this is a very experimental track that threw all of us for a curveball. None of us expected a cross between many genres... this is honestly quite creative if you look at it the right way. I'm fine if people don't like it but if people say "Oh well, this is typical pop trash, I've lost all hope, Coldplay is strictly pop and never going back, may as well quit now" they've obviously either listened to very little of the song or are extremely closed-minded and are just making assumptions just because it's a new Coldplay song. That is DEAD WRONG. Many Oldplayers like this song, because, well guess just why? REAL guitar. REAL drums. It's at least partially rocky, but furthermore it's experimental. It has flavor, and Coldplay are obviously widely experimenting and trying new things. After hearing this song, which is arguably one of Coldplay's most experimental and creative, I am so excited to hear AHFOD. This is MUCH MORE than "mainstream pop trash" like some claim it to be. Again, I'm fine if you don't like it, but if you think of this song as plain pop trash than you are still DEAD WRONG, because this song is experimental. Coldplay obviously are not afraid to try new things. They've proven this time and time again, and it just keeps getting more experimental and creative. This song continues that trend. It has much more experimentation than many pop songs on the radio today... this is a sign of great things to come. I am so excited to hear all of AHFOD. I'm sure it'll be great. Again, the only thing to be worried about is their collaborations with Beyonce and Tove Lo. But again, I'm pretty sure it's that they're sick of doing the same things over and over again and I'm thinking that they're just wondering what they can come up with with acts like them. Also, if you're still not pleased and aren't convinced that they're just trying new things like always, keep in mind that they are collaborating with Noel Gallagher and Merry Clayton (is that her name?) as well. So, you know, Everything's Not Lost. :P

You know what is funny.. Im really thinking that this album will be like viva2.0. Something new' date=' different and really big. Not so much on the style, but more in how it feels... I believe that adventure of a lifetime is nothing compare on what comes. I BELIEVE THAT EVERYBODY HERE WILL BE SURPRISED AND SO WILL I.[/quote']

I agree. The new artwork after the simplistic artwork all threw us for a bit of a curveball, and we'd have never saw a song like AOAL being released as the new single. Now that's something different. Coldplay always seem to do that to us. There's surprises around every corner, and I'm sure that this album will send Coldplay in a completely different direction altogether yet again. I am so freaking excited for this album it's not even funny. I CANNOT WAIT to hear what it sounds like. :)

About the album cover....I think we could see something similar to the silver MX cover. It was silver on the outside, but the MX-punched out part coyld be lifted away to ahow rhe graffiti underneath.

With AHFOD, I believe all of the visuals can be lifted away to reveal the simple flower of life underneath. I think this because if you look in the attached picture, there is a small border around the flower of life, and it has no stars on it....

I agree. They did both a simplistic and an "all over the place" MX album covers. I think that it'll be just the same thing here. They'll have this insanely psychedelic album cover, and then they'll also have the simplistic flower of life. I really see them doing that same thing they did in the MX era. It'd make sense, anyway, and I'd appreciate it.

I have this odd feeling that Coldplay's song with Beyonce will be a mix of Fix you and XO... :D

In my personal opinion, that would actually sound quite amazing and worthwhile. I'm excited to hear what it'll sound like if that's the case. :D

:laugh3:

What confuses me is that Fun is the only song that we know for sure is a collaboration. Maybe Beyonce and Noel Gallagher will only make very minor appearances on other songs.

I'm pretty sure you know about this already since you probably heard the news, (but I am replying to quotes as I go and I don't see your future reactions yet) but Coldplay selected Beyonce as "an angel" for their album. You've got to admit. She can have some pretty vocals. Now I'm actually excited to hear the songs with Beyonce in them, since her vocals are only going to add to and enhance the song as a whole. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have all that much influence on the song structure. IMO I think this is the time to be optimistic. :D

I would be fine with those instrumentals if each one were part of the same track as its parent song. It's annoying when I put my Coldplay in iTunes on shuffle' date=' M.M.I.X. plays, and then Swallowed In The Sea comes on right after. It kills the flow.[/quote']

I'm lucky. I got my interludes AND the songs that go with them together so I don't have to worry at all. :P

They have been 'mainstream' since Yellow' date=' and I'm amazed this is so overlooked. You and I both know Chris loves Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Travis, Oasis, etc. still, but what's the point to [i']still[/i] be talking about them for nearly 20 years? Any famous artist or band will change their taste as time goes on, but they don't leave behind their initial inspirations.

Yes, they very well have been following the mainstream's direction, and unfortunately the mainstream direction is turning into trash. That's why so many Oldplayers are worried.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Parachutes' date=' [i']A Rush of Blood to the Head[/i], X&Y, Viva la Vida, Mylo Xyloto and Ghost Stories are all "rock" albums by nature. Anybody who knows the analytics of music genres might disagree on what exactly Coldplay are; whether or not they should be generally classified as alternative rock, soft rock, pop rock, but the consensus is that they're a rock band. "Mainstream" is not a genre, and people who say Coldplay are a pop band have obviously never heard of the term "pop rock". One Direction is a pop band. Coldplay is not.

I agree with all of your statement except the second sentence.

Parachutes, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, and X&Y are definetely all rock albums. Yes, the feel differs considerably from album to album but they are all rock albums.

Viva la Vida or Death and all His Friends is iffy. It's just so experimental that it includes a range of genres, but I suppose that as a whole it's an experimental rock album.

As for Mylo Xyloto, I have to agree, it's still (mostly) a rock album. Many people don't consider it to be a rock album, but whether you like it or not, it's a rock album. Although, it is a pop album too. It's a pop rock album, so to speak. But so, it is still fitting in a category of rock. A happier version of rock than you'd expect from normal rock, at that. (Why I love Coldplay: always twisting up genres in different ways and seeing what kind of creative stuff they can do with it. :D)

Ghost Stories: If you honestly think that this is a rock album... I don't... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! If you think this is a rock album, you've obviously not heard one second of any of it. (Maybe that's because you were scared because a lot of people on this forum say it's trash :laugh4: Not in my opinion tho. :P) But the point is, that album does not have one bit of real drums in there at all. There is even very few instances of real guitar as well.. I'm sorry to say, but this is no rock album. This is best described as a synthpop/ambient album. This is no rock album... sorry. Take another listen.

That's all I wanted to say.

it's not sad actually. they're only being themselves, so like I'm sorry that you can't enjoy new coldplay music because it can be a very uplifting force.

and also throwing around the term "indie pop" do you even know what you're talking about?

In my opinion, it is actually very sad that they are starting to look up to pop acts. I'm thankful that none of their music has crossed the "too poppy" line. (For some it has tho). But we should be worried if they are looking up to acts like those. I really hope they start to see what they've gotten themselves into. I also hope they take another listen to alt rock and their earlier work and start to see what pop is to alt rock. AKA, trash. I hope that eventually they go back to their roots (still trying new things, at that). Fortunately, based on their most recent works, they've stopped themselves from going too much into the pop stuff. The real drums and guitar are back. :D I think that they're starting to go back a little. However, them collaborating with Beyonce and Tove Lo (more Tove Lo than Beyonce, because they just went with Beyonce for her vocals, but they did a real collab with Tove Lo) is a bit concerning. So we can't let go of all worries in regards to that, just yet. Not saying I don't like Tove Lo's music, but some of her songs I just consider too mainstream for Coldplay to fall into, and hopefully Coldplay don't cross mainstream lines that Tove Lo has.

Coldplay have been a huge influence. They wrote songs which meant something to listeners, there's no emotion to any of their music, they've lost it but I think they can find it again, there's an entire album we still need to listen to.

They are definitely indie pop now. Bands like Bastille, the 1975 and city and colour, are all indie pop artists. Rock bands these days are arcade fire, arctic monkeys, MUSE, and kings of Leon. Would you fit Coldplay there now? I don't think so.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Sorry... but this post doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Umm, they DO have emotion in their music, and at that pretty much all of it.

And, I'm sorry but please take their recent music a listen. They are no indie pop band.

They've just been drifting steadily from one side of the pop-rock spectrum to the other - to the point where they're now becoming just a pop band pure and simple.

Anyway, here's my prediction for all the tracks:

A Head Full of Dreams - AOAL's big brother, big dance track with a pounding beat when it gets going.

Birds - Piano ballad with an electronic twist. Perhaps the Beyoncé track.

Hymn For the Weekend - MX style glowing electro-pop. Big chorus.

Everglow - I'm excited for this one, I think it'll be a minimalist melancholy song, like something off The XX's debut.

Adventure of a Lifetime - Hell to the meh!

Fun - Maybe a curveball, and is actually the darkest track on the album.

Kaleidescope - My heart says 6 minute shoegaze epic, my head says a good but not great pop-rock track, think Low.

Army of One - Title brings Violet Hill to mind, but I think it'll be an acoustic song with a dance chorus, similar in structure to The Do's "Anita No!"

Amazing Day - Skiiiiiiip

Colour Spectrum - I think this is the Noel Gallagher song, I see it being something heavier to balance the saccharin shite of Amazing Day.

Up&Up - An epic, but short closer - like Up With the Birds.

X Marks the Spot - a fun throwaway like The Goldrush, with the band all singing and laughing. Similar in place to "Her Majesty" at the end of Abbey Road.

First: In my opinion, ever since Viva they kept sliding further and further into pop... and they were about to become a pop band. However, recently something has shocked them awake. Not fully yet, but they're starting to go back, while trying all sorts of different things as always. Their music is showing that they're going back from the line where it gets too mainstream pop a little. However, the news about Beyonce and Tove Lo might prove me wrong... we'll just have to wait and see.

In bold: *sighhhh* I am honestly sick of people calling Amazing Day "shite". I'm sick of it. It is fine if you do not like it, but there is NO reason to call it "shite". Not to start anothe war, I'm just saying.

Two Beyoncé songs?!

Damn you Coldplay, you better use Noel Gallagher very wisely to make up for this...

Calm down. Her vocals are going to be used to make an angelic effect. I think it'll just enhance the songs as a whole.

Did anyone of the Oldplayers read the interview of La Perisien? It will change your minds and see Coldplay's point of view

Radiohead say hi :)

It's great that Coldplay change their sound every album, but they're far from the first to do so - and they've never really moved that far away from pop structures etc. Brilliant? Yes. Revolutionary? Not really.

I have yet to hear the performance of Amazing Day - do you, or any anyone else, know where I can find it? I find it hard to believe you could perform that song in such a way for it to be anywhere near good, but I hope to be proved wrong :)

This is the link posted by jc90 - there is a mp3 audio at the end of the first post that has good quality AOAL, then Amazing Day, Clocks and ASFOS... Amazing Day really does sound decent in that one - Chris sounds better and the musicianship is sharper... guitar lines are tidied up. The song sounds majestic!

here it is

One of the things I love about Coldplay is that they are not scared to incorporate various genres in their sound. And even though they do that, they still maintain their signature sound. By the way, I really like the TFI Friday version of Amazing Day. Classic for me.
