LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Yes, but Comcast is always shitty for me, so it's probably just on your end.

Hmmm, other sites worked. My internet is generally fairly strong. I'm streaming a live feed no problem. It was only Coldplaying.com and the forums....

^ Was Midnight really a single though? I always thought it served more as a teaser of sorts  Usually we only get two singles ahead of time. Maybe announce a tour and then drop HFAW a week or two before Dec. 4?

. . . I don't remember how far ahead of the album we usually get our second single

Yea, it was released before the album was.

Also, was the site down for anyone else for the past hour?

Yep, it happens here too

I could see them performing Hymn for the Weekend and releasing that one within a few weeks time as an even more radio friendly song than AOAL. With a title like that this thing has to be radio friendly, plus all hail Queen B amiright? That is my hope anyways--one or two more singles rolled out week by week until the album is released.

That has been the routine for a lot of big pop artists recently actually. Beiber has released three tracks off his new album and Chvrches released 3 as well before the entire thing dropped back in September/October. So maybe that model has been doing a good job selling singles/albums recently? Who knows.

What are we thinking the singles are going to be for this record? Are they going to do a Maroon 5 and release like 6 so they stay in radio ubiquity until 2017?

My guess is:

#1: AOAL

#2 Hymn for the Weekend

#3: A Head Full of Dreams same week as Album Release with the Mumbai Video

#4:a month later, Fun (feat. Tove Lo) and this ends up being the best song unexpectedly (jk I am expecting to hate it)

Me too. I have a really good feeling about it which I didn't have for Ghost Stories for some reason, even though I absolutely loved Midnight and Magic as lead singles and was overall quite satisfied with the album save TL and ASFOS. It is strange...

I think that I am getting that same excitement I had with MX because every single had so much colour and energy in it. The fact that Chris Martin says "we are going to do whatever inspires us now" leads me to believe we are going to have more than a few surprises on this new album (I AM PREDICTING JAZZ ON ATLEAST ON TRACK) The guys just seem genuinely happy right now, like all of them. Usually Chris is beaming about a new song and everyone else looks tiredly on in the background bur right now there is energy and creativity so this could potentially be the ENTIRE BAND finding their balance.

I also want to mention that even though some folks are upset about the pop level of AOAL, which I understand, it still has some promising alternative rock/pop parts. For me the sheer oddness of the intro and outro mean this is gonna be a viva-ish album. Just focus on the ending and listen underneath the woo-hoo's and you get a sweet, progressive guitar solo/acoustic guitar/xylophone? It reminds me of Viva for sure.

Exactly. Every single interview I have seen so far, then entire band have been laughing and having a great time. They have been hilarious. I have laughed so hard at the interviews over the past weekend. Also, they all look like they are having a blast playing live again. I'm just really excited because they all are enjoying everything right now.

And I agree with the last part about AOAL. You can hear a lot more stuff in the instrumental. If you havnt heard that yet, go check it out in the MM section.

Man, doesn't it feel...

SOFA KING GOOD (so fucking good), NOT saying, "maybe there'll be an announcement this week"?

New era is here, no more waiting, no more guesswork, no more hunches, no more rumours.

Oh man, can't even describe it. After weeks and weeks of rumor after rumor, its finally here. And the album is less than a month away which is so great. I remember when they started playing new songs off MX in June and then officially announced it in August. We still had two months to go after hearing more than half the album. Right now we have only heard two songs. Its so refreshing.

14,000 post milestone in this thread and now personal 100 post milestone!!!

Just a thought: I was thinking today that they're doing the kind of music they should have done when they were young and vice versa

14,000 post milestone in this thread and now personal 100 post milestone!!!

Just celebrated it with another play of AOAL:drummer:

I have to admit the more I listen to the song,

The more it grows on me

Agree with this! You only have to look at their new band photo (the one I'm using for my avatar) to know they are having fun creating this. Really think this could be their best album yet! Absolutely loving AOAL - just can't stop playing it!

I can't stop either! And I'm loving it backwards also! :D

I think that AHFOD still has every chance of a debut at number One. Now 99.9999% of the time I wouldn’t care what chart position an album peaks or debuts at, being that I don’t need an artistic work I enjoy to be commercially successful to validate my appreciation of it, but with Coldplay it has always been different.

They have given me so much joy over the years that I can’t help but wish them all of the positive attention, success, and glory they deserve even though I know those are not the reasons they are making music in the first place. The same goes for reviews. I don’t need an album I love to get good reviews in order for me to feel justified in loving it but they are still nice to see.

Having said all that AHFOD could debut at number 1 or at number 85 and I’m still going to love it all the same but with such a historic record on the line I can’t help but root for some chart dominance a little more this time around. If I was ever for any team I’m for team Coldplay.

I agree with just about everything you said. It seems that Stargate played the same role with AHFOD that Brian Eno played with Viva. The last time the band was this excited to experiment was way back in 2008. Now, it's not necessarily going to be experimental in the same way that Viva was; it's not going to sound the same because how can you experiment if you're repeating something you've already done? AOAL features Coldplay trying on a new side of their sound, and they seem to be excited about it! It might not be art rock shoegaze, but it's a whole new element to the diverse Coldplay sound.

Since they do have that mindset with this album that they aren't going to confine themself to one single genre, I don't think the whole record is going to be a bunch of poppier songs. Instead, I think it's going to have a sort of diversity that the similarly bright and happy MX never had. Dancey pop is one inspiration for AHFOD, but so is Indian culture. Those are two VERY different things.

I agree. I really think that AHFOD will be what MX could have been. If that is, then this will be my favorite album... and I can't see how it'd be after how much I love MX :D But if this album is like MX but even more experimental, and if it turns out great, then this will take my spot as fav album. :D

Yes!

I mean, the fact that AD is a softrock ballad and AOAL is Disco, proves that there is variety, not just between these songs, but the WHOLE ALBUM.

-If they try something different (pop)

*this is not the Coldplay I know. Coldplay is artistically dead*

-If they do something which isn't pop

*this is so boring and repetitive*

In short, they can never satisfy us all.

What makes me sad is the amount of hate these 'true fans' are spreading. What were you guys expecting? 'Bohemian Rhapsody'?

This is not lyrically good, the band is pop now, they are not rock anymore..... Aah c'mon. As if you have heard the whole album.

The band who gave us 50+ songs to love gives us one pop song for the general and casual listener to enjoy and we start losing our minds. Keep in mind that this could be a great commercial succes which could in turn be an excellent boost to the album sales.

If you don't like it. Don't listen to it.

By spreading hate you're nothing but influencing people to have a bad mindset about the song already.

Rather than criticizing the band for releasing a pop (partially pop) song, we should rather feel happy that the band is enjoying themselves and support them.

I know we expect alot from Coldplay.

But we have another 10 songs yet to be heard, so everybody just calm down and stop making a big fuss about it.

Just for once forget what Coldplay were and what Coldplay might be.

Why not enjoy what Coldplay are right now?
