LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

I have always assumed the band doesn't like Low or they have forgotten it because they haven't played it in 10 years, but that lyrical reference in AHFOD is clever! :x&y:

I don't think it is a reference, to be honest. Chris is just feeling high at the moment and this is one way of saying it (or else he is "alive again", "floating up above the world now" etc.)

Really wish they had just rescheduled the Tidal concert to one week instead of a week and a day- like why?! haha.

Well, even if it's not a reference to Low, it is yet another lyric referring to flying/floating up high.

Why is this: "Oh, so high, I am feeling such a high so high so high" considered bad and this: "Cause I feel low, cause I feel low oh... yeah I feel low oh no...oh cause I feel low, cause I feel low oh... yet I feel low oh no...oooh" considered good?

I've never heard anyone say those lyrics are good?

Granted, I still like them because there's a really interesting contrast going on with the lyrics and the instruments in Low. Lyrically, it's rather down and depressing, but instrumentally it's about as quick-tempo and upbeat as it gets. It would have been cool if the guys had gone the same route with this song but flip-flopped :D

They forgot everything about X&Y that it's not Fix You or Til Kingdom Come. It's a pity because their best songs are on that album

^ White Shadows, Swallowed In the Sea, and Twisted Logic are some of my absolute favorite Coldplay songs. The odd thing about X&Y is that there's several songs that are kinda cheesy and bland, but there's just as many that are, like, really good.

I could see AHFoD going in that same direction

Literally couldn't agree any more haha! This is mainly why I'm really hyped (other than the fact that it's simply a new CP album) because there is some promise for some amazing stuff.

^ I feel like AHFoD is going to be received in the exact same way X&Y and MX were also. It's going to be really polarizing, and a lot of people will probably not like it at first. After a few more albums (whenever they may come), it'll get looked on much more favorably. Everyone seems to forget that before MX, X&Y was Coldplay's generally least-liked album :P

Granted, that's obviously pure speculation at this point, but I feel like there's been enough information given about it to give us a fairly clear picture of how it's going to go

X&Y is an album that is definitely not perfect... yet it speaks to me more than any other. Maybe that's just sentimental value, but for me the really good songs lessen the effect of the slightly more bland/cheesy tracks.

I seriously wonder if the stressful recording process is what scared them away from most of X&Y. They appear to have this idea in their heads that most of the album is simply not good enough. They allow their self-criticism to get the best of them and it's a real shame because they treat most of the album like it does not exist.

chris addresses this very question towards the end.

The response to AOAL and Amazing Day has been fairly similar to that. Neither song is generally well-liked, at least by fans who have been around a long time and who regularly post on this forum. I'm expecting some backlash when we first hear Hymn For The Weekend as well. I do think AHFOD will grow on people, but the response to it will be very divided at first.

Edit: I'm not saying that the new songs are heavily disliked here, there are just not as many people who openly express their enjoyment of said songs.

Well, I've never seen anyone criticizing it.

Low is one of my favorite songs!

I'm excited for this album because of it's amazing diversity. Disco funk(AOAL), Ballad(Birds), Rock(guessing Up&Up), Pop(HFTW) and who knows what's next? [emoji3]

It actually works out for me because I had a game to watch tonight and I don't want two massive events in one night lol. It's actually fortunate for me they did end up pushing it back to Saturday so I don't have two massive events in one night. :P

Besides, in a few hours it'd be over and we'd be sad it's over, at least me anyways. We still got a full day to be excited for it! The longer the excitement lasts...:) just trying to be positive and look at the bright side of things... always works :D

I'm just imagining that song riiightt now. :P

Why is this: "Oh, so high, I am feeling such a high so high so high" considered bad and this: "Cause I feel low, cause I feel low oh... yeah I feel low oh no...oh cause I feel low, cause I feel low oh... yet I feel low oh no...oooh" considered good?

lmao, that's a great point. I like to think because Low is "rock" and now AHFOD is "pop", so the hypocrisy isn't realized by those people.

I mean Low is one of the weakest songs on the album, both lyrically and musically imo. But the music behind the lyrics definitely shapes people's opinions of them. I can tolerate the bad lyrics of AoAL a lot more than similar quality lyrics on GS because I like the music in the former better.

For me its one of the best hahaha.

Sorry if this is thinking too far ahead--but is anyone else stoked about the possibility of an EP or just a few B-Sides for this era??

I feel like their b-sides usually represent the more skeletal, less produced material/demos they were messing with before the final product came out. For GS, that was the angsty All Your Friends and folksy alt-rock of Ghost Story...so take the B-sides, layer the production, add better melodies, and make it poppier, and you have an A-side.

It sounds like AHFOD is taking on some crazy influences, so the question becomes this: If there are B-sides that are less poppy, more skeletal, what do they sound like? Hindi-rock? Psychedelic rock or electronica? Funk or Classical??? These are things I wanted in the first place soI would be ecstatic if we got an EP from this thing next year.

haha, my thoughts exactly

I think that Viva la vida or death and all his friends has the best lyrics at all

At this point some of us are so apathetic we don't even bother with expressing content about anything. The aggression and animosity directed at individuals who criticize the band also serve as a deterrent for people like myself.

But all forums, much like the general fandom itself go through transitional periods; of which this place has experienced many. I think in the future it'll be a more united and unmixed crowd where everyone agrees with everyone else and all people love everything. A bit like one of those Disney movies with penguins and cute kittens.

Don't call it "hypocrisy". Yes, this particular line of Low may not be a good lyric (the other lines of Low are, in my opinion). Other than that, Low has got a great instrumentation and melody. It's not the fact that it's pop or rock. It's a good song. Take Proof as an example - cringeworthy first-grade rhyming book lyrics but great instrumentation, melody, vocals, atmosphere and hence still a good song. If Hymn or whatever song this "I feel high" lyric will appear on fulfils these criteria, then it will be a good song. No double-standards here.

I've never heard anyone say those lyrics are good?

That's all I needed to hear [emoji6]

Politely, I sometimes feel some Oldplayers get aggressive themselves.. using words like fuck, shit, rubbish, rock is dead (for certain situations) etc to describe what is happening feels quite aggressive to me... Feel free to discuss, or even vent... but if you get emotional, don't be surprised if the response gets equally emotional (remember no one can tell the context if you're not letting us know) :)
