LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Featured Replies

Yeah I will make a thread in the MM section and will post here to let you guys know. I have them all done, but I'm going to attempt to redo them so they sound better. Up&Up came out better the second time I did it, so hopefully I can replicate that. I'm at work for another hour or so, and will start on them as soon as I get home. You should have them within the next 3 hours tops.

Thanks a ton. Also, if you're the same Coldplaykb on Youtube, thank you so so much for making Coldplay tutorials. You're basically the reason I can play Coldplay piano. I hope some day you post some AHFOD tutorials. Your videos make learning Coldplay really simple; you're a great teacher man!

No problem, and I am indeed the same person. Thank you very much, that really does mean a lot to me. I feel bad because I havnt posted anything new in a few months, but I have been really busy with work and school. My free time is a bit limited, but I plan to start back up again soon. My next lesson I have planned is Speed Of Sound. After that I will most likely move on to AHFOD. Hopefully I can do Speed Of Sound sometime this week. Once again thanks for the kind words!

Sorry for the double post but I was listening to Shiver with vocals only. Although it sounds AMAZING, I came across a funny little tidbit. At 3:01 you can hear Chris Martin clear his throat. It's unnoticeable with all the background instruments but I thought I'd share because I find it quite interesting it wasn't edited out or something. I guess this is one example of some mistakes that the guys wish they could fix in rerecordings.

I'm in school too so I get where you're coming from. That's awesome, I've wanted to learn that one for a while now! I'll be checking your channel when they come out for sure. There's a lot of great piano bits on AHFOD! You should definitely cover Magic at some point. I cannot seem to find a tutorial anywhere on the piano chords in the song. People just tend to only play the lyrics on piano instead of the actual song bits. Anyway, thanks again and hope to see some of your new work soon!

Thanks! I have been trying to find the correct way to play Magic for a while now, but no luck yet. Like you said, its usually the basic chords with the vocal melody. I like to teach exactly or as close to as what Chris plays. Anyway, the acapellas are up! Check them out in this thread:

So, the AOAL video just hit 40mil views.

And I was viewer 10....at least on the official November 6 audio release.

Anyways, that's amazing!

So, the AOAL video just hit 40mil views.

Whoever did the market research was right... Lots of views and interest, but I wonder whether that is helpful or not?

So after several listens and after yesterday doing a mini Coldplay marathon of a rush and X&Y (during my drunken night lol) , I can say AHFOD is so more alternative to my ears than ever before.

It's easy to focus on the few clear 100% pop elements like in Hymn, but when listened from start to finish I can now say to me AHFOD is elegant and even artsy and definitely alternative.

The small interludes, the small touches from all sort of genres weaved together, the wonderful guitars, piano, lyrical themes etc.

Listening to this right after X&Y, the latter sounds actually much more mainstream for its times!

LP7 is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. And it's getting less and less poppish with every listen as all the elements come to the fore.

The recent Birds video actually totally fits the album in its small artsy execution. And even Adventure video was yes a big production but quite original and innovative and different with the mocap experiment.

I look forward to seeing what more I'll notice as this album does rotation after rotation on my phone hehe :)

I agree. It's not so poppy like everyone is saying. Birds is one of the best Indie/alternative songs. Def not pop.

guys is Birds the Second single as it show on Wiki ?

Army Of One is also more alternative, right!?!

Well, to me, yes it is.

Not only Birds. Pretty much every song imo except hymn and adventure which are almost straight pop. But the rest is a mix with a lot of everything put in.

And despite its mixed genres and styles it all flows very nicely. I would dare say thanks to the homogenous production which keeps it all together! My first praise for Stargate here haha

Yes, I agree HFTW and AOAL are pop. :) To me it's funny when people say Birds sounds like The Strokes, but when it's a Coldplay song than it's pop.

Well, to me, yes it is.

Great, also to me. I hope they don't skip it!!!

Depends on what you define as pop....

Technically AHFOD has some songs that don't stick to a traditional pop song structure: AHFOD, Birds(kind of), Kaliediscope, Up&Up, but the rest are about as formulaic in verse chorus, verse chorus, bridge, structure: Birds, HFTW, Everglow, AOAL, Fun, Army of One, X-Marks The Spot, Amazing Day.....

So the majority IS pop I would argue, along with albums like X&Y. But we can also look at it another way: in terms of sound not structure. Here AHFOD is even poppier in my opinion than any preceding Coldplay album:

Piano's and acoustic guitars are mixed down. Drumbeats are mixed up. HFTW goes for thumping EDM party themes. Fun has a very sappy, basic pop-rock sound. Everglow's drums are practically R&B, interesting stuff is turned down. Army of One is hopping on the synthpop resurgence (see Chvrches or Taylor Swift's Out of the Woods), X Marks The Spot is dance hip-hop with trap influences. Amazing Day is basic pop-rock and Up&Up has very accessible brit-pop influences. It is, without a doubt, Coldplay's most accessible album. There are indeed alternative moments, but seriously. Even listening to GS, which I thought was extremely pop driven, feels like an alternative experience compared to AHFOD....

I dont mean pop as in verse chorus verse chorus or in the wide general sense of the word (which would comprise most music these days anyway), I mean pop in the extreme sense of the word I guess as if whats on top of the charts these days (what most people here despise LOL). In that sense and compared to that, I think AHFOD is quite alternative, also its structure is unusual with the interludes, the mixed genres and many other touches. I meant to say that there are only a few moments where its straight down pop that gets close to whats on the charts now. (But even Hymn has some interesting guitar elements that sets it apart...).

If I listen to say a Taylor Swift album or Beyonce or any of the "common" pop musicians now I cant honestly say AHFOD is on the same level, it certainly stands out, at least to my ears.

Hmm... I think Chris' audition with Stargate went a little something like this...

I don't think they "auditioned" for them though... atleast in the traditional sense.

It's just a joke, my friend
