ColdMartin
I'm really optimistic about the new album after hearing this .. such a pleasant surprise i expected more of those happy pops songs but looks like AHFOD will have a dark side i don't think it's a charity song .. you can tell that chris really enjoy and feel it .. not quit sure that if it will be a new single either way it's really AMAZING song
ColdplayingfromKansas
I was not impressed by Chris thanking God in his lyrics :| But--but God Put A Smile Upon Your Face??? :huh2: Also, I mean, Coldplay has always been among the more "tame" soft rock bands. Other than "Idiot" I can't think of a single song in which Chris swears :P
ttm
I get a sort of 50s ballad undertone in the song. You could easily slow dance to this song! Crazy...I feel the same way! Not sure what it is but, I thought of Earth Angel for some reason when I first heard it!
Batman
But--but God Put A Smile Upon Your Face??? Yes indeed, I hoped that was a closed case with mentioning God in his lyrics. Aparently not lol. Anyways, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face is a badass song where the God part doesn't sound as corny and cheesy as in Amazing Day. Well at least to me it sounds so cringeworthy there.

ov3la
Once again, Amazing Day will not be on AHFOD. It was for the festival only.
a2iel
Once again, Amazing Day will not be on AHFOD. It was for the festival only. Is this speculation? Not sure why they would play a "floating" song at this point in time..

ov3la
Is this speculation? Not sure why they would play a "floating" song at this point in time.. It's obvious, the lyrics, the vibe of the song fits into GS perfectly, i'm not saying it's a GS throwaway but it sounds like it. The album will entirely different from this song, the new album will be experimental.
getithom
09/26/15. The day on which Coldplay finally became a Christian soft rock band. Oh holy crap. I'm sorry what. If that's the case, then they turned into one with Violet Hill. it gets complicated if you don't believe in God lol Eh, not really. I have plenty of friends who don't believe in God and lyrics that mention God/religion don't bother them. As a sidenote, I can't see how this sounds similar to Ghost Stories. They did mellow well before last year, and the 'full' sound we heard tonight hadn't been around since the Mylo days. Once again, Amazing Day will not be on AHFOD. It was for the festival only. There is nothing to confirm this. If it were for charity, they would have said so by now. Besides, in 2011, the band never introduced any of the new material that made it to MX as such. They played them without introduction and we put together the track list from there.
Minarets
It definitely sounds Ghost Stories-esque to me.
Salounimohanty
Btw, to which song are we supposed to film our reactions for the Atlas Project? Amazing Day or the actual single of AHFOD?

The album will entirely different from this song, the new album will be experimental. Nothing here is obvious. When did they say the new album would be drastically different from GS? Both albums came about from the same general recording sessions after all. Up in Flames also has the lyrics and vibe of GS but it's on MX. For one thing, Amazing Day is not nearly as empty as GS, there's much more layering and guitar and violin (Rossi's supposedly bigger role in AHFOD?) prominence. Plus the article said Coldplay were on the fence about playing it there. How could it be a stand-alone festival song if that were the case? thetwinparadox
it gets complicated if you don't believe in God lol I'm an atheist as well, yet I can listen to GPASUYF because "god" can be used as a poetic device, just like elements of Greek mythology (ex: Atlas). But where I draw the line is where there are praises/hymns to the alleged "majesty of god" shit.

HowCouldIForget
it gets complicated if you don't believe in God lol To each their own. Maybe think of it as him thanking the random, chaotic nature of the universe for everything coincidentally lining up for his rare, amazing day. Would be quite a reason to rejoice considering the general unlikelihood. From what he's said about his spiritual beliefs and lyrics from songs like Yes he does seem to believe in a god in some form, though.
gai
didn't watch the set yet, but listened to the song. certainly similarities to AIMH. a little too many for my liking. for me, it is a nice song, in a bad way. this is right up coldplay's alley. been there, done that. a little too many times. and for me, not worth repeating. you've gotta get people's hearts racing when you allude to new music from a new era! like with midnight, however disappointing it was afterwards. but remaining optimistic for lp7 :) wouldn't mind if this song goes the way of MTM (although how i wish for MTM to have been included in MX!) penelopeja
Listened to it twice, changed my vote from 6 to 8. Love it. gentleparachute
The song's a grower for me... Heart sank at first listen after all the hype and excitement - felt a bit disappointed that it wasn't a grander song. However now that I've had a chance to calm down and listen to it and absorb it, I feel the vibe is really beautiful and peaceful, kinda meditative as well... A good way for them to say they're at peace with the world :D
