Viva La Vida has been number one in 36 countries. Help us find a country - please - whose inhabitants despise it We knew Coldplay were popular, but did we know they were this popular? Amazingly, their latest album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, has been the number one-selling album in an astonishing 36 countries. Are there any nations left untouched by Chris Martin's gang? There are some other staggering statistics bubbling away. Viva La Vida set the record for the highest first week sales ever on iTunes around the world. It was the biggest album, pre-order, in iTunes' history. It is the biggest selling digital album ever in the USA. "Enough!" I hear…

Courtney Love had a panic attack on the way to stay with Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin because she thought she wasn't "good enough" for them. The former Hole singer - who has had well publicised battles with drug addictions in the past - felt inadequate as she travelled to stay with the Shakespeare in Love actress, who she calls GP, and her Coldplay frontman husband. She said: "Over the years Gwyneth has always invited me out to London and I have always procrastinated. I was like, ‘What if I come out to hang out with her and Chris Martin, who is a genius, and me being such the opposite of who they are.' My ‘What if?' worries started to kick in. "So f**k it! …

What we wouldn't have given to be a fly on the wall when Courtney Love went to stay with Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow! Lucky for us, we have the next best thing. Courtney has been kind enough to write an entry on her blog telling us all about her recent visit to their London home -- and give us a peek inside the lives of two of the most secretive celeb couples out there! Apparently, Gwynnie wears an apron when she cooks (of course she does!), theirs is definitely not a non-smoking household, the Shakespeare In Love star has a very high IQ and is "as light as a feather". Kurt Cobain's widow got to know the couple when they ended up hanging out together in Ne…

Chris Martin did an interview with Nova 96.9 (a Sydney radio station) that aired this morning on the Merrick & Rosso & Kate show. You can have a listen at http://nova969.com.au/site/shows/merrick_rosso_kate.aspx He says that Coldplay will hopefully tour Australia in February or March. The Coldplay lads are being shamed into swapping sweets for salad after piling on the pounds. Chris, Guy, Jonny and Will are on top of the world since conquering all with their new album Viva la Vida and single Violet Hill. But they've put on weight thanks to a diet of "baked goods" - endless cakes, pastries and pies. "It happens whenever we have some downtime, usually between albums," says Chris. "We get very hairy and kind of morph into Bill Oddie - we stack on the weight." But, he says, a meeting with former Stone Roses bassist Mani made him get to grips with his waistline. "He was eating a sandwich and I asked him what was in it. He told me it was salad…

On July 1, 2008, Random House published Stuff White People Like: The Definitive Guide to the Unique Taste of Millions, based on the insanely popular blog of the same name. In a remarkable coincidence, June 17, 2008, is the release date of Coldplay’s new album, Viva La Vida. VF.com asked Christian Lander—author of the blog and the new book—to deconstruct the band’s white fan base. It is easy to think that all white people love Coldplay. However, if you assume this you will miss a great opportunity to dig beneath the surface of white people and learn how to really get inside their heads. By understanding a white person’s feelings toward the band, you can evaluate, recogn…

When Chris Martin checks into the Hotel on Rivington, you know it’s going to be a party. Witness the bash last Sunday, when Sarah Michelle Gellar celebrated the wrap of her movie Veronika Decides to Die. After Sarah rented the top three floors of the hotel, Chris and all the other Coldplay guys showed up, and helped Matt Skiba, the lead singer of Alkaline Trio, to sneak inside with his own band. The addition of the supercute indie punks encouraged everyone, including Sarah’s film co-star Erika Christensen, to start dancing. The crazy-fun party went on until 4 a.m. http://www.nypost.com/pagesixmag/issues/20080713/Six+City Not sure how true this is, since conflicting …

I don't know if this has been done before, but it's not showing up in the search so let's make this thread the OFFICIAL COLDPLAY PAINT THREAD. Use MS Paint, or whatever program to paint anything Coldplay related. I decided to paint the beautiful Chris Martin as he is my favourite member (and I bet the favourite of a bunch of yous). It took me roughly 3 and half hours and I'm really pleased with the result. Let the fun begin!

No doubt Coldplay is like totally the coolest and most famous group around. But that doesn't mean everyone knows who frontman Chris Martin is. The rocker was at the Thompson Beverly Hills hotel on Saturday, apparently to meet up with some friends on the rooftop. (The band kicked off their summer tour in Los Angeles July 14.) Unfortunately, Martin's name wasn't on the list at the elevator that takes patrons to the roof. "A goon at the elevator wouldn't let him up," a source reports. "Everyone's like, 'This is the lead singer of Coldplay.' The goon wasn't rude, but he just asked him if he was on the list." We're happy to report that said goon eventually got t…

Any one else wondering what's going to (hopefully) be written on Chris' hand for this tour? I know originally it was 'maketradefair.com' and then the equals sign but do you reckon he will do something different? I know that's the whole reason why he never got anything permanent like a tattoo done cause he likes to change the message for fair trade. Any ideas?

COLDPLAY may soon be Mouldplay if they don’t get a dry cleaner. The lads only have one each of the French Revolution-style army jackets they plan to wear every night of their 67-date tour. Oh dear. They have already been wearing the coats to death for promotional work in the run-up to the release of album Viva La Vida and in the video for single Violet Hill. The jackets are inspired by the uniforms worn by soldiers in EUGENE DELACROIX’s Liberty Leading The People painting. I just hope CHRIS MARTIN and Co get a quality cleaner on board soon…or they’ll smell like they just stepped off the battlefield. http://www.thesun.co.uk

The widows of former Beatles John Lennon and George Harrison led an all-star tribute on Saturday to Sir George Martin, the producer who molded the Fab Four into the world’s most important pop music force. Martin, 82, received the Grammy Foundation Leadership Award, in recognition of his humanitarian and charitable efforts, during a dinner and concert featuring the likes of singer Tom Jones and rock guitarist Jeff Beck. Coldplay’s Chris Martin was in attendance. Sir George Martin had this to say… “I’ve listened to quite a few records,” Martin said, “but I’m not terribly happy with the current pop music. I like Coldplay. Chris Martin is excellent, you know. He has to…

Woolies launches Coldplay price war Source: Midweek Chart report By Ben Cardew Woolworths’ download store is to sell the new Coldplay album for under £5, in a move that it admits could spark a price war among retailers. Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends goes on sales globally tomorrow (June 12) and Woolworthsdownload.co.uk is to offer the album for just £4.97 to the first 5,000 customers. Woolworths sees the offer as important publicity for its new store, which launched at the end of May. However, it admits that with its price likely to be £2 cheaper than other UK download stores, it may spark a price war. “£4.97 is a stunning price for any new relea…
