Nice to hear something new, but this track is boring. Regardless of comparisons to AIMH (Coldplay has made tons of songs that are similar to ones prior). I like the strings, I like the live instrumentation, but there is nothing interesting going on frankly. I could see it being a pretty song,

 

I want something interesting. Chris talking about sitting on a roof with stars and dancing with a swelling string section and chanting ohhh oohh ohh just feels bland and overdone. This is a reminder that though we anticipate an incredible album, there is a very good chance that we get something that doesn't take a lot of risks, pumping out the same decent track after another.

Same key, same uncommon time signature (6/8), same chimy guitar, same string synthy sound in the background as Always in my Head.

It could just be the "quiet" song of the album. (Ex.Up In Flames)

IMO it's just really bland. Disappointed. I was expecting something poppy as the "no alt-rock anymore we're in 2015" rule seems obvious now, but in an unexpected or original way. This is just like 99999999 other pop ballads. Jonny's guitar saves the thing for a bit but it's mainly "hearts - stars - take my hand - the world is beautiful" with bland instrumentation.

I agree. It's kinda on bland side in my opinion also. It does have a decent, more flexible melody and and a nice swell, but it doesn't seem entirely original.

 

But I'm hopeful for the album in general. (And for a world tour :)) Perhaps they'll break out of their usual predictability.

They don't really sound similar to me at all. The Clocks = Speed of Sound thing is nothing more than a myth perpetuated by music critics at the time.

^ agree, just because you make a hook with bright piano on 2 songs it doesn't mean you ripped off yourself or whatever, music critics were just aiming to amplificate the fact that X&Y sounded a bit like a mainstream and "poppified" AROBTTH, so they stepped into this whole Clocks=SOS thing to demonstrate this. Which is completely unwarranted imo.

 

But for this AIMH - Amazing Day thing, it's quite different i think : these two songs have basically the same time signature, same tempo, same drum sounds, same breaks, same guitar effects, same vocal range, same feeling. (And moreover they're all one notch below AIMH, imo. And it's bland.)

I don't think they are gonna play it today. And I don't think this is a new single. I think it's another track from the album, or a bside. Or maybe it's something that will never be released all together. They will have a 7 song set with all hits. I'm keeping my expectations as low as possible. I just don't want to be disappointed again lol. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

Difficult to say. It sounds like it might be part of Amazing Day, but it could easily be the intro to another song as well. As someone above me said, it sounds a bit like Up In Flames as well.

 

For all that we've been told this album will be upbeat, so far all the "new" songs we've heard have been anything but--even if they don't wind up as AHFoD songs :lol:
