Songs like Coloratura and Arabesque frustrate me because they prove Coldplay can still make powerful, boundary-pushing and highly creative music, but they actively choose not to 90% of the time.

I'm just hoping there's some sort of resemblance to the X&Y sound in LP9. Moving To Mars is a great example of a non-Oldplay song that's like that. It reminds me of What If. But I also want someth

Yeah it's so weird My Universe and Coloratura are going to be on the same album, I feel like track track 10-12 is going to be very this:

Harmless and Prospekt's March are also among Coldplay's saddest songs.

That's true. However Prospekt's March always invokes in me a feeling of tragedy and melancholy mixed with a poetic speck of hope. Whereas Gravity is one of the few songs in my music collection that I very seldomly play because it is so sad that it's too much. Another one of these overly dark tracks that comes to my mind is Radiohead's Fitter Happier.

Btw I just noticed again how much better the LRLRLR version of The Hardest Part is compared to the studio version. (Reasons I'm an Oldplayer Ep. 2349503473252)

How lucky are we all as a group? I dunno that many bands, but my guess is not many continuously work on their songs, particularly their hits the way Coldplay do... I reckon there are probably 2-5 versions of all their album songs for each one that has been released.

^ THP is one of those songs that I think could have been left off X&Y, but the LRLRL version with PFFA at the end is seriously amazing

Prospekt's March is one of those songs that's serious underrated, even by Oldplayers. Lyrically one of Coldplay's best, and absolutely tragic and beautiful, but no one ever seems to talk about it :P

Trust me, we don't underrate it :)

Seems like most songs by Coldplay can't be decided on wether or not it's underrated.

Easy to please....

This title is me listening to Oldplay. :laugh3:

The song's truly underra- oh wait

To all oldplayers.. listen NOW to the snippet of birds.. who likes all eras from radiohead will like it for sure

Absolutely! I find it impossible to choose a favourite Coldplay song but if I had to, Prospekt's March would be a strong candidate.

Talking about great live versions, I need to share this medley of GPASUYF and Talk from the Viva Tour. Very Radiohead-y:

Thanks for that video... I unfortunately went on a CP hiatus and missed out on most of the live bits from that era. It did seem like they were really pushing themselves musically then... And then for whatever reason, that stopped

Ugh I was casually scrolling through the forums... Why did I have to go find this thread!!??!?!?! I don't consider myself an 'Oldplayer' or a 'Newplayer' and I hate the division between the two, we are all just Colplayers no matter what!

Sorry about the peace rant :D I really wanted to say this thread gives me the feels of times past I hate looking back on the past, nostalgia is the worst/best feeling ever why u do dis!

Well leave then, you don't have to come here and face the truth. ;)

I prefer the studio version of Talk but it's interesting to hear a more electronic arrangement, more reminiscent of Computer Love. I would like to hear a full live performance of this rather than an abbreviated version...

GPASUYF sounds great too. I really hope they can find some other way to play the song on the new tour. Maybe they should try an acoustic version with just Chris until the bridge. It would be really calm... almost Parachutes-esque. Just Chris, his guitar, and maybe Will singing backing vocals. Then, it quickly builds to the crazy rock outro we are used to. :D

The thing is it's not JUST Coldplay that gives me this feeling... It's like EVERYTHING and I hate it I hate it I hate it!

These are hard times, all that remains to us is nostalgia.

Jeez it like a funeral in here

The formal funeral (for Oldplay) happened in 2011 I think. October 19, 2011 to be precise.

The grave was blown up (I mean kaboom!) on February 14, 2012 by an unknown artist.

(don't hurt me)

Don't worry, I respect your opinion.

Thinking of oldplay all day probably isn't healthy , just saying

I may be an Oldplayer but that doesn't mean I get a glimpse of newer stuff everyday.

True, true, just all the nostalgia- doesn't it get depressing???
