Ok folks, so the nominees came through last month for this year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize - British Album of the year for 2009. For those who don't know, it is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. Which albums are fascinating you at the moment? You know the ones that you've just bought or ones that have gathered dust on your shelves until you decided to give it a go and think "hmmmm not bad after all!" I know it might seem weird tbut having bought I decided to give a try of U2's Pop recently and I'm slightly addicted to it now. When I thought it was sub standard I now think it's a very good album. I'm probably fascinated by it because of the sheer difference of their whole 90s sound to that of the rockier 2000s work, atmospherics of Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree era and their post punk sound in the early 80s. Sure no way near as good as most their other albums…

Some singers just open up and sing to their own voice, like Chris Martin, Bono, Thom Yorke. You can tell because when they talk their voice sounds pretty much the same as when they sing. Then singers like Jason Wade (Lifehouse) and Scott Stapp (Creed) and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and Brain Johnson (AC/DC) drastically change their voice when they sing. They actually put effort into adding raspiness or depth or screaminess into their voice for when they sing. So, what do you prefer?

First off, I followed the old link, but it is broken. So Pearl Jam is arguably the best grunge era band, and one of the truly greatest rock bands of all time. They are releasing a new album in September and Touring in support of it. The album is called Backspacer. So any other Pearl Jam fans out there?

I bought U2's Zoo TV Live in Sydney DVD the other day and to be honest... I was blown away by the whole gig. But you should witness the entrance to this gig. Visually STUNNING and awesome! well, trip hop is a genre that started in the 90's, and it is said that it originated from England, particulary from Bristol, where bands like Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky started developing it. im not gonna go in details about the history of this genre, you can look up yourself in google or wikipedia, whatever. i dunno if anybody here likes triphop, but i enjoy it very much, and there are some great artists and albums you guys should check out, if you are new to this genre. i'll give a list of bands/artists, a bit of their discography and albums you should check out (possibly, i will upload the albums, if i have time).
