July 3, 20178 yr I read this too and would like to discuss something about this. As it says in the article itself, almost all of the numbers in this list are not impressive and much more could be done without those celebrities even losing any money in the end (read the whole article). 200K is nothing for for a person of CM's stature, and it is nowhere near to his claim of 10% - in fact, it is closer to 1% of his earnings last year if you go by the supppsed Coldplay earnings published by Forbes recently. Was very disappointed to read this because I thought they were donating more. On the other hand of course I don't know how accurate these numbers are... What do other people here think about this ? I don't know where they get these numbers from, but i can imagine that chris does give a lot to maybe also lesser known charity organizations without telling everyone about it. [emoji848]
July 3, 20178 yr Is this maybe PERSONAL charity stuff, and that more is given to charity from Coldplay as a group instead of individuals?
July 3, 20178 yr Money is one thing, and no matter what gross amount or percentage of your total wealth you donate, you're a good person in my book. Maybe that's just my personal view, but im sticking with it. Whether you gauge by gross amount, or percentage, its a hell of a lot more than most people (myself included) donate and im damn proud to see our boys doing it. I'm not about to complain that they should be donating more. On top of money though, is the time and effort they put it. They play shows at charity and special events, make visits to hospitals, etc. Perhaps it's a little bit more clear in my mind because I saw stuff on twitter lately, but there are recent examples of this. Well, of course they can. Can't all of us? Perhaps this is one of those glass half empty/full scenarios where there's no real right or wrong....
July 3, 20178 yr Yeah besides the money, Chris (can't really tell about the other guys) puts in a shit ton of effort towards charity
July 3, 20178 yr Yeah besides the money, Chris (can't really tell about the other guys) puts in a shit ton of effort towards charity They'll show up to gigs as well (for the most part. I recall an American benefit concert where Chris was solo). But realistically, if Jonny were to show up to a children's hospital and start playing, they might boot him out 'cause no one knows who he is, lol. Jonny, if you're reading this, you can come to the children's hospital I work at, and play! We won't kick you out! Edit: the concert was the 12 12 12 Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert

Well, of course they can. Can't all of us? Perhaps this is one of those glass half empty/full scenarios where there's no real right or wrong.... My thoughts exactly! For me, judging someone as generous or not is relative because a) you never know how much they really own ( and the numbers given in the article may not even be correct) and b) like @jc90 said it's not always about how much they give, but how much effort they give. You can certainly see that Chris is always ready to help charitys because he really belives that he's helping to build a better world. And in the end, isn't that what matters?
July 3, 20178 yr One of the things I hate hearing about our lads is that they're sellouts. Well, they just (individually) made the list of top 10 most generous celebrities of the UK. Here's the relevant part of the article: Full article source: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jakehayman/2017/07/02/generous-celebrities/#74ce0c2c6634 Found via the tweet here: Mobile Link: https://twitter.com/coldplaying/status/881696905390174208 I think people call them that in the musical sense that they're making their sound poppier, and they don't like that, and so they think that it's them trying to keep up with current pop trends for more popularity, and thus more money. I do believe that in some songs like HFTW that their sound is at least partially inspired for a desire to stay really popular (and, collaborating with the Chainsmokers on SJLT? No doubt in my mind.) But I won't go as far as to call them sellouts, especially now since some of what we heard from the upcoming EP is actually really unique and original sounding music. It's what AHFOD was supposed to sound like, but as mentioned before due to Stargate that didn't happen, and we got the poppier side of it. (As for songs that aren't HFTW I won't say it's as bad because they're not as poppy as that one). Anyway I'm going off topic, even if they made such music regularly I wouldn't consider them sellouts because of this, all the donating and the work they do for charities is great! And my opinion on all these other things about "it's not close to what they earn in total"... 200K is still a lot, no matter which way you wanna put it. In perspective for someone as rich as Chris Martin it might not be, but to a lot of the rest of the world it is, and it's not just that he donates to charity. As others said, he actually goes to these places and makes whoever's day is there knowing that Chris Martin from one of the biggest and best bands in the world is there. So that's on top of all of the money he donates in the first place, and it would be unfair to say that isn't enough because none of us could even come close to doing that. So IMO every member of Coldplay is very generous, and we should look up to them for donating and helping these charities. @Draco, that would definitely be something interesting to hear. I meant that I'd be afraid of any of the acts I like going total hip-hop because some of them are heading in that direction with less instruments and collaborating with mainstream hip hop artists. And I'm talking about the incredibly unlistenable "hip hop" mainstream rubbish that's popular today with autotuned mumble vocals, no melody, and mediocre beat and lyrics. Any hip hop style that you mentioned that is unique and artistic I would be more than happy to see anyone do. I've never heard anything from those genres but I'd be receptive to it anyway because for one it isn't a mainstream sellout move and secondly I'd guess it would be unique and creative which I'd respect anyway.

July 7, 20178 yr http://coldplay.com/new-dates-announced-for-brazil-and-argentina/ Now that the band has announced "the final shows of the record-breaking A Head Full Of Dreams Tour!" when they return to South America in November, they really state AHFOD tour is coming to its end, even to where it all started. :scream: It will be exciting to see what they will do next. Will they still di a short tour for Kaleidoscope EP? Will they head back to studio? Will they have a break from making music and touring, or what? Only time will show...
July 7, 20178 yr no way they do a KEP mini tour. I do hope they take a long break and come back better, towards the direction of KEP.
July 7, 20178 yr really after next week, the rest of this tour would be their KEP mini tour... if they actually play more KEp songs live, that is :p

I think a break is well deserved. AHFOD tour from start to finish was almost, maybe longer than VLV right?
