LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Featured Replies

Chris has stated that they want to 'break barriers' within the music industry. I don't think it will be 'fully pop', they'll be seeking to mix styles and experiment. My main concern is that it doesn't end up rather ordinary, like 'A Sky Full Of Stars' was imo. It's great live, but lacked 'gusto' and energy on the studio version, which I think was the result of trying to please everyone.

Also, I think constant categorization will set yourself up for disappointment and impartiality against all of their upcoming work, because it might not be 'as heavy' as some previous Coldplay albums. They've hired a very experienced production/mixing team and could produce one of their finest albums.

I think they will try to experiment again with this album.

I'm kinda nervous about the new album. Like, not in a good way :I

Let's see if Coldplay has a nice surprise for us, and not a A SKY FULL OF EDM one ...

my problem is that there are producers that facilitate experimentation and group dynamics. but when you work with a mainstream pop song producers for the biggest stars who don't even write their own songs, it gives room for worry. not to mention, this is the first time stargate is working with a band.

but i'm trying to be optimistic :) we haven't heard anything official yet. and this is coldplay we are taking about.

anyway, remember all the rumors just before GS was released and how the actual name was tweeted and most of us called BS on it? it is happening again. take it with the usual pinch of salt.

Coldplay are having an emergency recording session in Los Angeles in order to get the first single finished. It will be released in mid-late August. It will have its live debut at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City. They will announce a European arena tour in October which will happen in late November/early December. The album will be released in November. They will tour the world and do Glastonbury next year. I work with someone who is close to the band.

I'll believe it when i see it. I do hope they play a new song at the festival. It would be great. [emoji2][emoji106]

Interesting. It doesn't really tell us anything we don't know already as most of us already have the album pinned as dropping in November (just going by the poll)

It would be cool if the majority of us were actually right this time about the timeframe though :P

There is no doubt in my mind that they will experiment, but that doesn't necessarily mean the final result will be very original. One can dabble in pop and call it experimentation. Experimenting for me was during VLV sessions where they tried new instruments and group dynamics, or with MX. And do recall that there will never be another MX. That album is really sonically unique in my opinion, like every record. The feel might be similar, but the record will be its own project. If the album will sound like anything, it will be closer to GS since that era is still relatively new imo. Think Parachutes and AROBTTH, both somewhat similar yet still individual.

My hope is that these producers are only in it for the singles. A nice balance of pop and alternative rock is where the boys thrive.

Very well put. I am thinking they are only on for some of the heavier pop songs and singles as well. I am hoping for a good balance between pop and alternative rock, but we will wait and see.

I honestly don't know what to expect for AHFOD and I'm extremely nervous. But in a good way, though, because Coldplay have never disappointed me yet, and I don't think they will this time.

"I live to see the world"

you know when you think about the kind of people that helmed the recordings before, this is quite a change of direction. in mylo, coldplay did embrace pop, but with eno and dravs. and it was quite a polarizing album with the existing fans. now this. looks like a complete pop takeover. down to the production and mixing teams. it does bother and worry me too. i feel like the band may be aiming for chart domination more with this lp. the team selections so far indicate that.

by the way, another thought i had was, most of us assume that the next chapter after lp7 will be in possibly more a left-field direction. but what if lp7 is an indication of what coldplay would become after? that made me sadder..

I can understand the negative vibes that other Coldplayers feel. However, though Phil Tan (and Stargate if ever) had previously worked with pop stars and rappers I think we should also consider the fact that working with a band is also something that is new for him. That is why I'm eager to hear at least a song from LP7 because we really cannot consider their production (and to some extent, direction) bad unless proven otherwise.

Good to hear the album is coming very soon. Stay calm everyone.

Another great point. Just cause they have a lot of pop oriented stuff under their belt doesn't necessarily mean they will fill AHFOD with it. And ultimately its up to Coldplay what they want for a sound. If they want pop, then we will get pop. And if it's pop, why not bring in some people with pop experience. Anyway, no one really knows what we are in for. We will just have to wait and see. [emoji1]

That's the hardest part: waiting

That is indeed the hardest part! Although I remember waiting and waiting for Ghost Stories last spring and now here we are more than a year later, waiting for AHFOD. Its crazy how time flies after you have what you have been waiting for. Before you know it we will be talking about LP8 and we will all be reminiscing about waiting for LP7. But at this moment time is dragging on and on and on Lol.

I wish that was true !

I honestly don't mind of they have brought in Phil Tan and Stargate to work on the album, ONLY IF, Tan and Stargate aren't whispering into Coldplay's ears in the studio, brainwashing them into making a full length pop album. I don't mind if they are working hard on making that new radio pop single for them. I don't mind if there is the ASFOS song on there, but as long as I'm not listening to 40 minutes of EDM and Will on a electronic drum kit playing the most simplest beats, we can't even hear Jonny's guitar, Guy is sitting there playing one note the whole time and Chris singing one line over and over (and it probably has something to do with birds and flying). If it is like that for one song on the album, just to draw in the modern-radio-pop-listening-audience, then I'm okay with that.

Just please for the love of God, not the whole album.

Something to add, about Phil Tan. In his Q&A session (at 42 mins), when he was asked about his favourite music genre, he said he didn't really have one but if he had to pick, he'd choose rock.

This album better go back to what Coldplay were! I mean I like the new albums and that but they will never get close to what AROBTTH was. That album was beautiful.

I want a scientist type song, I want the beauty to be shown in their songs. Not stuff like sky full of stars and every teardrop is a waterfall!

I can't wait for this album, I know it's their last so it will also be emotional.

One thing I'm worried about is that I hope they aren't rushing this as they usually take 3/4 years to release a new album and now they are taking just a year.

It's cuz they did a very short tour that didn't take like 2 years to do.

Well that was something I also wanted to say was even though Tan and Stargate are known for being "poppy" producers, doesn't mean they have to do pop, they could very pleasantly surprise us. They might just have good suggestions and background/ambient noises in store for the songs the boys have. Who knows really :)

That is actually a very interesting point. As I mentioned earlier I don't care much for AHFOD and I'm already more interested in what they do after this since I was hoping when all this crap is over they can get back to making rock songs; IF there will ever be an LP8. But they might go on all Maroon 5 and that I'm afraid will be a total disaster.

After this album is released, they will go on hiatus for sure. I'd say at least a good 4 or 5 years. I think that this album will be one to remember.

I think you're right, with the hiatus and it being one to remember. Even if it is all poppy, I feel like it is still going to be big in some way

I agree, It seems chart positions and Itunes sales are taking precedent over making meaning and memorable rock songs. With that said though, we haven't heard anything yet and despite the signs going one way so far, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. With the producers on board I would say it's almost impossible that we'll get AROBTTH part 2 but that was only really a pipe dream anyway. I still have faith we can get a record like VLV.
