Jonny's riff is very dreampop in Fun, maybe the best things on AHFOD is that guitar sound

My guess is that the new Chainsmokers song is gonna be in the EP.. Not bad considering it is a Chainsmokers song first, featuring Coldplay... but not exactly what I'd like their other Kaleidoscope songs to sound like.

There's no fun in Fun at all. That song is the most generic off the album.

 

IMO that would go to Army of One but I mean come on, the most generic? People want melancholy out of Coldplay but then call arguably the most so out of the album "generic". What exactly do y'all want?! I mean.. of course I can see the differences between it and Oldplay but can't we at least be thankful it's not the typical AHFOD track? The only thing generic about that song IMO is the chord progression which is a common one in particular that might give it that sensation. It's also a rather unique pop song compared alongside today's mainstream hits, really all of AHFOD is.If you listen to the top of the chart songs nowadays then listen to Fun and call them alike, I don't know man.... if you disagree with me, provide some examples.

 

BTW, what is everyone's thoughts on the new collab? A while back we heard that Chainsmokers were doing something with CM, now it seems the whole band got involved... I predict almost every one of you will despise it because it's EDM pop and all that but I actually really like it. My only problem is that the synths in the chorus stop and start over and over again, rather than there being one continous sound, if I were to have made the chorus I might have put that part in but also have a lighter synth or pad or something play the melody continously and have that be up front. I don't know, maybe one day I'll be experienced enough in using these programs to do that :P

@a2iel - I doubt that, it is already on the preview tracklisting for the Chainsmokers' new album. Someone posted a screenshot from Apple Music (? or something) earier.

I highly doubt it.The Chainsmokers are in the midst of building up to their new album and the artwork for Something Just Like This is done in the same style as their other build up single Paris

Yeah, but Lovers in Japan was a Coldplay song and Lost+ was not made for a Jay-Z album, that are the differences...

what i like most about it is the lyrical content. like that concept is definitely something that Chris has explored in other songs, but it's not really something i hear from other artists? the whole "well, it's over but we had a good time" thing

True, I tested them on my music program, by a slight 2. Original is about 110, Osaka is 112.. but who would really notice that lol

Hmm, what's that? I haven't heard of it. (unless you're talking about the CM solo performance on piano)

But I do know of the Avicii edit that was never official, which IMO is the best version...

I never meant to offend other Coldplayers so I do apologize if my post did something like that. But sure, I need to explain what I just said. It's generic (for me at least) not because it has a traditional structure but more on the overall impact of the song (its blandness). I'm not surprised that you mentioned Army of One because it's one of my runner ups too but it has a leg up simply because Will stood on that song (one of the few higlights of the album is how he incorporated different drum patterns/style for each song in AHFOD). The synths and the organ-like sound complemented that Army of One as well. The intro of Fun is just meh. The very same thing that I felt with the intro of Amazing Day (album version) *maybe Stargate's fault. Also, the chorus for me is a bit dragging. And no, I'm not comparing Coldplay to other artists' work. COLDPLAY POP is different hands down.

This is EXACTLY what I want on the KEP if Something Just Like This has to be on it. I think it would sound really pretty as a stripped back version, just like how they were performing their AHFOD tracks in the recent Spotify and Nova Red Room performances. In fact I've been listening to those performances a lot more than the regular tracks recently. They sound so organic but still 'new'.

that's true, it is a Chainsmokers style track with Coldplay influences over it. That's why it's Chainsmokers ft. Coldplay, not the other way around.

 

so for anyone who dislikes the track, there is still hope for KEP.

MX had hope, KEP is more like making sure you're thoroughly disappointed in time for it to release so you don't lose any more respect.
