COLDPLAY ARE SET TO GET THEIR FIRST EVER NUMBER ONE SINGLE! Being one of Britain's biggest bands, it is quite hard to believe that they have never had a number one, but they are now set to get one with the brilliant song, Viva La Vida. They lost out a couple of years ago with 'Speed of Sound' to the bloody crazy frog! YES! THE CRAZY FROG! I Love them soo much and if they do not get this I will GO CRAZY! lol... (this can also be a thread to have a go at the Crazy Frog, lol)

  3. http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news07135m01 Somewhere in London, EMI’s Guy Hands is breathing a sigh of relief. That’s because Capitol Music Group’s Coldplay will debut at #1 on the HITS Album Sales chart next week with their latest, Viva La Vida, thanks to record-breaking sales at iTunes, with a total that should be between 650-700k, and possibly even higher. The band’s one-day download total at the House that Jobs Built soared past Jack Johnson’s previous one-week high of 140k. Insiders are saying the final number should shatter pre-release predictions of 200k.

So, because there's been an awful lot of talk about listening to the album all the way through, and it telling a story... I'm curious. What story does it tell you? M.

  6. Johnny Slamms The Police (One of the greatest classic rock bands ever in my opinion) Flashing fleshy moobs the gobby Sex Pistol branded Sting's outfit The Police "f***ing bumholes" in a rant on Saturday night. Punk's senior statesman yelled at the crowd: "Why are you so f***ing quiet? Saving your energy for The Police?" Finally Johnny - who an insider tells us is a diva who "goes mad if his voice can't be heard" - yelled: "If you don't scream, I'm going home. Would you like more from grandad?" We'd like you to put your shirt back on...

What the hooey happened to Will? :stunned: His work on the new album is sooo good and so radically different from anything he's done before. It's almost as if he's been replaced by a clone. A clone with mad skills. He's always been the perfect guy for the band, always adding and never taking away imho. But all of a sudden he didn't take it up a level, he took it up about 20 all at once. Cemeteries, Lost, 42, Strawberry Swing, and others all have these incredible rhythms. And even the simple rhythms have little technical pauses and flourishes that were never there before. For me, it's really the defining thing that gives the album it's character. I LOVE it. …

Martin walks out of BBC interview Coldplay singer Chris Martin has walked out of a BBC interview while promoting the band's new album. Nine minutes into the pre-recorded interview for Radio 4 arts show Front Row, the 31-year-old asked to leave the studio as he was not enjoying himself. The band's drummer, Will Champion, was left to answer questions from presenter John Wilson until Martin returned for one final question. Coldplay's new album, Viva La Vida, was released on Thursday. 'Journalistically twisting' Martin appeared uncomfortable with the interview from the outset. When asked about a speech he made at a music awards ceremony in 2005 where …

  11. Amazon cuts Coldplay album prices to bring in the crowds 2:59 PM, June 17, 2008 If you are going up against a giant, it helps if you too are a giant. And scrappy. That appears to be Amazon.com's strategy as its MP3 store takes on Apple's iTunes in digital music. Today, the British alternative rock group Coldplay (pictured above), is releasing its new album, "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends." Amazon is using the occasion to wave in more customers with some huge discounts. Amazon said it would begin selling digital versions of past Coldplay albums for bargain-basement prices. As part of a weekly promotion called Daily Deal, the Coldplay album "X&Y" is…

  14. I haven't seen any postings about this. I bought the album today. Put it in my computer to listen to it, and for the most part, have not had any problems. However, I noticed on two songs--"Violet Hill" and "Death and All His Friends", the CD either stopped playing completely and Winamp (the program I'm using to play it) or would pause, start again, then pause, and this happens intermittently. It is extremely annoying and very non-fluid to say the least. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my individual CD or what. I cleaned it with my skin and breath (okay that sounds weird) but I exhaled on it for moisture and wiped it with my arm. I can try cleanin…

  15. Coldplay Raise Eyebrows With Sgt. Pepper's Military Look -- So What's Behind The Costumes? Band inspired to wear outfits by the painting featured on Viva la Vida's cover. They've been called everything from "nouveau French revolutionary" to "ragbag military uniforms." We're talking, of course, about the at-once-dingy-and-colorful European marching-band getups that Coldplay have been sporting in promo photos and appearances in support of their upcoming album, Viva la Vida. It's part Michael Jackson paramilitary look, mixed with a dash of the color from the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's album cover and a hint of U2's penchant for donning uniforms that last an entire albu…

  16. It's me! Simon Pegg has written a song with Chris Martin. The 'Hot Fuzz' actor and the Coldplay frontman penned the track, titled 'A+E' together, to poke fun at 'Talk' from Coldplay's album 'X+Y'. Pegg jokingly said: "The song we wrote is called 'A+E'. It was written in chords of A and E, and its all about injuries, 'If you've got a broken finger or a broken toe, if you've got a crushed thorax, there's only one place to go.' I reckon it's better than most of the stuff on their albums." In the UK 'A+E' stands for Accident and Emergency the name given to the walk-in ward at hospitals. Comedian Pegg is no stranger to working with Coldplay. He sung backin…

  17. Started by Viva La Violet Hill,

i bought the CD at wal-mart (jewel case by the way) and the CD was EXACTLY $10.00. :laugh3: i've NEVER seen that. but thanks for making it so cheap coldplay! :D if i had pre-ordered from amazon i would've paid at least the list price of $14.98 plus shipping & handling. i'm glad i waited. the only thing that ticked me off wuz that they had the camp rock soundtrack (which also came out today) in the very front of the music department but i had to go to the coldplay section to find the album. but oh well, the guy who checked the album out for me said it was amazing.

I feel bad for making this a whole thread, and really bad because it can probably be answered with one person. But does anyone know if the minute it is June 17th here in the States, will the album be downloaded for us from iTunes. I know this probably seems a bit impatient on my part, and seeing as I've listened to the album pointless. The reason is I didn't put any of the songs on my iPod, i just listened to them from iheartmusic.com, and I'm yearning to listen to them on my iPod. So if anyone does know the answer to this question based on their own experiences.

  21. Some days ago I was having a look to all the pics i got from Coldplay and I saw one taken from Coldplay.com showing a possible Tracklisting for the album and I saw some songs lost in the finish tracklisting. Do you remember Poppy Fields, Rainy day, Leftrightleftrightleft...? What do you think it will happen to them? Wouldn't have you liked to have them in the CD it's already in your hands? Or do you think they will be released as b-sides? Anyway. What about them? :O Ps: In spain it hasn't already been released! We still have to wait untill net tuesday :(

Better than both Parachutes and X&Y (each 72), but not as good as a Rush of Blood to the Head (80). Still, it's nice to see that, in the end, the majority of the reviews have actually been very positive. Plus, they don't have a lot of the incredibly positive reviews we've seen from Q Magazine and People or even the Herald Sun.

I duno about anyone else, after picking up the album today i was looking the the artwork and on one fo the pages it had some of the names of the songs in a painting along with songs like "Postcards From Far Away", "Prospekts March", "Poppy Fields", and "Glass Of Water". The ony reasion i thought this was relivent was i remember seeing in an interview that was posted on the homepage of coldplaying.com with some guy from EMI saying that there were some "suprises in store" in the comming weeks/ Months. hah i duno if these songs could be avaliable for download later on by the people who purchased the CD? any thoughts?

  25. A tepid effort by Coldplay Coldplay has it hard. Other bands issue albums and all we expect from them is a striking beat, a beguiling melody, an interesting turn of phrase or, at most, a winning combination of the three. Coldplay puts out a CD and we expect it to tower over every other album that came out since ... well, the last Coldplay album. That's the burden of being the biggest-selling serious-minded rock band to come along in a decade. Then again, the band's members have to assume part of the blame for the God-like expectations. From the start, they pursued the role of rock seers, in both sound and demeanor. And, with their previous CD, 2005's "X&Y,"…
