Nothing we don't already know, but an interesting read. Rock star rebel with a cause The earnest lead singer of Coldplay is as well-known - and mocked - for his clean living and social conscience as for his enormously popular music. But the band's new single is sure to be a hit. Especially as they're giving it away The unveiling last week of Coldplay's new single had all the hallmarks of a punchy declaration of intent, aimed to silence all those 'namby-pamby' jibes the band habitually attract. 'Violet Hill' creeps in under a fog of ethereal atmospherics before the arrival of the trademark clip-clopping piano and impassioned vocal. This time, however…

Ok, this is really weird, different sites have different lyrics for the opening bit of Don't Panic. It's either "Bones, sinking like stones" or "Oh, we're sinking like stones" and also either "All those places we've grown" or "Homes, places we've gone". So i'm really confused which one is the actual line cause I keep listening to song over and over and it could be either of the two lines but i'm leaning more towards it being "Oh we're sinking... and All those.."

I don't understand what's going on with me. One minute, I can't live without VH and the next minute, I want to kill it as much as I'd want to kill a cockroach. I listen to Coldplay's old music like, Fix You, then compare it to today's Violet Hill and just get so depressed that they've changed so rapidly. Ok, listen, I'm not the one to complain because I do really like the songs so far, no love the songs so far.... just... on another band. I still love CP as much as I did before, I just don't know what to say. I guess I want their old style on newer songs. :shame:

I couldn't over the long intro segment of Violet hill which caused me to remember the long intro's from Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlanticism.....Coldplay could have very much gone in this direction with tracks that seem to go into one another....the beginning of Violet Hill could very well be the end of the Viva la Vida track. has anyone else latched on to this theory?

From today's Daily Mirror 17 May 2006 COLDPLAY'S WILL IS A DAD Kiki King, Eva Simpson & Caroline Hedley CHRIS Martin isn't the only Coldplay member celebrating the pitter patter of tiny feet. The singer and wife Gwyneth Paltrow had their second child, Moses, in April. But now the 29-year-old must be thinking about having a creche on the band's tour bus. Drummer Will Champion and wife Marianne had baby girl, Ava, two weeks ago. And bassist Guy Berryman's wife Jo is halfway through her pregnancy. "The guys are over the moon with all the baby stuff," a spokesperson for the band tells us. "Marianne and Will are busy looking after baby Ava while Jo and G…

EMI begins the roll-out of the media campaign for the new album this week, as the major gears up for the first significant release under its new A&R structure. EMI will hold listening sessions for Viva La Vida this coming Wednesday and Thursday at Abbey Road Studios for journalists from long-lead publications. The listening sessions follow the announcement last week of a new UK A&R structure in which managing directors Miles Leonard and Ferdy Unger-Hamilton were promoted to president of A&R labels for Parlophone and Virgin respectively. EMI Music UK senior vice president Mark Collen, who oversees the Angel label, and Terry Felgate, managing director of …

Well, now that you know that I was telling the truth about first listening of "Violet Hill"... http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43945 I think you'll be able to digest some more advances (and will believe me): - Next singles are potentially 42 and Viva La Vida, in this order, but that could still change, regarding the last one - The Escapist or Death and All His Friends (or both combined) have a weaker possibility too - Yes, Violet Hill reflects and combines in its lyrics political and personal issues (it's exactly what you're thinking) and the "Bucket for a Crown" connections are true, as well as the U2 "Lemon" connection - Viva La Vid…

Coldplay truly are now the heirs to U2 and The Beatles. check out this website: http://www.interference.com/stories/id174751.html that website gets info from thetherealconnection.com These articles mention how Coldplay is the third band to come and change the world, just like The Beatles and U2 did before them. very interesting article, especially considering The Bealtes U2 Coldplay are my three favourite bands and I own all their records.

I'm so not into Violet Hill. I guess I'm just someone who loves the more traditional songs from the band with a softer tone. I thought it was too dark, intense, heavy and quite depressing actually. Whenever I'm feeling down, I will always listen to Coldplay on my Ipod and immediately, I feel relaxed and better! Though, with this song, it makes you feel more sad. I understand a band wanting to expand creatively and not make music just impresses their fans. However, I think this is such a new direction that most fans are not used to. Anyhow, I'm hoping the rest of the album is better. I did like the end of Violet Hill though, the piano and also Jonny's guitar solo was…

I made a thread like this a long time ago, but now that we've heard VH, it's time for another one. This isn't a complaint thread, just a discussion.:) If you were Eno or the band, what would you have done differently when mixing/performing/arranging VH? (I'm a producer/arranger, so I love this type of discussion.) I love VH, but as I've said on other threads, I'd have shortened the electronic intro...I understand that the album ends with it as it begins, but as a stand-alone track it's a bit long for me. And had I been playing the solo, I'd have moved it up the guitar neck mid-way through. It's a good hook, but I find it repetitious for 16 bars. Just my 2c.…

After only one day of radio play starting yesterday, Violet Hill has allready made it onto the A-List (radio playlist) on Radio 1! Coldplay are only one of the few artists/band's to do this without moving up from a lower list, even speed of sound started on the B-list on its first week and the only one to move onto it so quick. You can view the playlist here : http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/playlist/ Allready a major hit on Radio 1, its only a matter of time before it spreads to other radio stations across the UK and the world, then Coldplay takes over the airwaves once more. As Chris Martin said on Radio 1 before the airing of the new single, "If you hate Cold…

Coldplay fans encountered technical glitches in the scramble to download the band's free new track after it was made available. Violet Hill is the band's first single from their new album Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. It was made available as a free download for one week from their website - www.coldplay.com. But one fan wrote on Coldplay's Facebook page: "I can't get the song in my email! I just put my hotmail and gmail accounts.... but still nothing!" Another Facebook user wrote: "I have entered all the details for the download but it asks for a username and password." And another Coldplay listener commented triumphantly: "Finally, after 20 minutes t…

A few of us were discussing how Coldplay's sound could use a fresh approach. So, if you could be the guy/gal behind the console, what would you do? First off, I think I'd isolate the boys from all music, including (especially) their own for about 6 months, lol. Then I would start by encouraging them to try writing on instruments that aren't part of the traditional Coldplay sound. (Jonny'd look hot playing a sitar, lol) I think if they're going to be remembered in the long run, that they have to break the mold in a big way. They may lose some fame in the short-term, but diversity would put them in a league with Led Zeppelin or the Beatles 20 years down the road. …
