The names of the 12-strong list were revealed this morning at a press conference at London's Hospital Club. As widely predicted, The XX feature with their self-titled debut, while Wild Beasts, Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling have also been nominated by the prize's jury. Dublin's Villagers are perhaps the biggest surprise to feature on the list, with Manchester veteran…

Every musician wants to record a classic album, but the odds against doing it are astronomical: For every disc that earns the "timeless" tag, 10,000 wind up in the $5 bin at used-CD stores. Yet the long-shot odds don't stop bands from dreaming. Brandon Flowers of the Killers is calling the group's new Sam's Town "one of the best albums of the last 20 years. There's nothing that touches this album." Meanwhile, Janet Jackson has titled her new work 20 Y.O., a nod to her 20-year-old smash Control. With that in mind, we lay odds on which of these new fall releases will be classics 20 years from now. THE KILLERS Sam's Town (Oct. 3) Odds: 100-1 The Las Vegas band w…

Not because they're boring, just because they relax you and give you good vibes... and because you just love lying in bed listening to them in the background  I just did it with Parachutes today. Put it on repeat and fell asleep... there's nothing like waking up to the sound of Coldplay. What about you?

Ok, they have no thread on this section (and i've searched well those last months, if i'm mistaken MODS do merge thread), and they deserve one reasons: - they have been around since 1997 (first album) -i'm not the only fan here, i know there are more out there  don't hide folks! - they are releasing new album next month. (8th february 2010). about new material: so far they have released first single, i find it a bit too pop-like but well. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88SP2Gxsew8]YouTube- HIM Heartkiller Lyric Video[/ame] They have played some of the new songs in Helldone festival. Btw if some HIM fans also followed Linde's side project, Dan…

Here is a thread where people can find out about new bands and albums that they'll really like. You can post an Amazon.com style suggestion here for albums, bands etc so for example I might post "If you like OK Computer, you should try The Places Between: The Best of Doves." It'll help people who might be struggling to find new music to get into. Alternatively, you can post questions/requests for anyone to answer. So for example, someone might ask "I really like the latest I Am Kloot album, Sky At Night. What else can I try?" and someone else might answer "You'd probably like Leaders Of The Free World by Elbow" Enjoy :)

Fyfe Dangerfield (of the Guillemots) just re-released his solo album yesterday called "Fly Yellow Moon". Usually I don't like lead singers' solo projects nearly as much as the material they do with their band, but it sounds really good to me. http://www.myspace.com/fyfedangerfield
