Up&Up

^ I wouldn't be surprised if they did a little editing of the audio just to keep a little extra element of surprise for each of the songs--especially since that seems to be a rather common complaint with each snippet. Worst case scenario, we'll find out in nine days :P

I doubt that; this is an advertisement after all to get people to buy the album.

This song is amazing. The album version hopefully won't be live though. The crowd was a bit distracting for an album closer. Other than that, loved the song, especially the ending. Reminds me of when they played live back in the X&Y days. Or when they sang Politik. It's just so amazing, and the album needed it.

The album version usually is never live...

Best closer since Amsterdam for sure.

This song is a M A S T E R P I E C E....

Just heard it one more time since last Saturday and it impressed me so much again! Psyched for the studio version!

Definitely in my all time Top 5.

If it turns out like that on the cd where the guitar is barely audible over the protruding bass then I will be seething!

I have never been too fond of Coldplay's closers, and this one unfortunately doesn't change my opinion...

Really? I think you're in the minority there, but that's all right :nice:

Personally, I think their closers consistently rank among the best songs of their albums, but they've never been my favorite tracks. It's usually the penultimate tracks that wind up being the ones I really like, oddly enough (ARoBttH, Twisted Logic, DaAHF, DLIBYH, Ghost Story)

:dazzled:

Though, I've always counted Til Kingdom Come as less of a closer and more of a bonus track.

Here's my (probably unpopular) opinion (that may or may not be clouded by recent-ism): Up&Up is the best song Coldplay has ever done!~ :D

That's funny, it's similar for me ! I wish AROBTTH would end with AROBTTH and X&Y would end with Twisted Logic.

What is actual closr tho?

As getithom pointed out, I consider Til Kingdom Come, Life Is For Living, The Escapist, the "O" part of Fly On/O more of a bonus thing, after the real cathartic closer has ended.

Also I think their closers are a bit formulaic, especially the recent ones, but Everything's Not Lost too. Just because they have to sound a certain way and provide a feeling of closure they tend to end up sounding...corny. Up&Up so far also falls in that category. But it's nice that they try to create a feeling of wholeness, a well constructed album, instead of ending it abruptly.

Really not trying to ruin the euphoria around here, and I am glad that so many of you guys are so content, but... Am I the only one who is not feeling the track as much? I think it's a nice song but I am really not crazy about it. The chorus is great, I love the brit vibe so much but the verses are absolutely disappointing to me. :( I feel like O, in all its simplicity has made me feel so much more than the 'bombasticness' this one has to offer. It's a great track for a closer and will be great to hear live but I just can't get over those verses... :(

Wouldn't those be epilouges or codas to the albums, rather than endings?

Give it a chance... Wait for the actual album version! I think a lot of us here are excited about the possibilities this song offers based on their recent performance... there's usually a deeper dimension to their studio recordings although it also tends to sound less "electric". Although if you are a "lyrics person" then maybe your opinion won't change...

Nope you're definitely not alone, I'm not really excited about this track, either. I only like the last fifth of the song lol

WARNING: NEGATOVE POST INCOMING

What the hell did Stargate do to this song? They royally screwed up. Why did they suppress the piano? Totally minimized the loud guitar and bass of the chorus. Noel's solo kinda saves it though. This studio version is lackluster. Sounds like Will is hitting the snare alone throughout the song. The ending does not flow well and it is not nearly as grandiose as the live version. Put it this way, Coldplay should never collaborate with Stargate again.

Live: 9/10

Studio: 6/10

I know right!??! The live version's ending was so epic with Chris singing the words, in the studio version you can barely understand that weak voice.

Man, the production is really killing this album for me this time :(

^yeah...they mixed the bass drum so high on this track that you can hardly hear the piano, guitar solos, or anything else... Same with Amazing Day.. Don't know if I should blame Stargate or Will.

Will is a genius. It was probably Stargate.

Sometimes I think they locked Will away for the entirety of the album process and just let him out after all was done and out. And that's why he's always looking angry during interviews because he wants to kill everyone who messed up the album.

YEEESSS. Sometimes I love your dark twisted fantasies! :wacky:
