October 19, 20196 yr Loving the snippet! What a lovely way to wake up on a Saturday morning. I am still confused as to how the Arabic and sun/moon dynamic fits in :joy: Maybe this era is going to play out like an old black-and-white movie? Something like "A Trip to the Moon"?
October 19, 20196 yr I'm late to the madness but did anyone translate the Arabic writing in the top right corner of the poster?
October 19, 20196 yr Also.. I'm glad to be crawling out of my hole to enjoy the start of this new era. I always find the start of new coldplay eras to be the best times to be fans.
October 19, 20196 yr Not sure if anybody noticed and I know this is a random string but even the YouTube is on the Coldplay's side :p The video ID "O22N1lH5sss". As an interesting info, there are enough ID string combinations to make everyone on earth produce video every single minute for 18000 years and yet they have been gifted with 22N inside of it.
October 19, 20196 yr No, it is Coldplay who is f*****g with my brain! :p In Dutch we say "iemand blij maken met een dode mus", loosely translated: "make someone happy with a dead sparrow". But it is still exciting to hear something this extraordinary. They've got my attention. Haha indeed (Ik ben nog nooit zo blij geweest met een dode mus btw)
October 19, 20196 yr I'm late to the madness but did anyone translate the Arabic writing in the top right corner of the poster? Yeah it means something like "human beings" and the other one "peace and love". The "peace and love" message is in their studio on the wall since viva.

I am still confused as to how the Arabic and sun/moon dynamic fits in :joy: Maybe this era is going to play out like an old black-and-white movie? Something like "A Trip to the Moon"? It's a lovely string piece, not unlike the kind we find on Yes, which is a Middle Eastern-sounding song. That's what I'm thinking. Even if this isn't featured on the album, it's notable that this is who they're taking influence from, rather than, say, Katy Perry and Flo Rida on AHFoD.
October 19, 20196 yr Yeah, it was already posted by someone in this thread. Ah my bad. I woke up to all this and a few more pages so I didn't have a chance to check. Pretty neat though!
October 19, 20196 yr Yes!!! This is happening! We are getting more Coldplay!!!! Even if the piece is not found in the album, it shows their influences in a way!!! So excited!
October 19, 20196 yr It's good to be back and see all the excitement for a new Coldplay album! To me it already looks way more promising than AHFOD.
October 19, 20196 yr It's good to be back and see all the excitement for a new Coldplay album! Yeah, like coming back to school after summer break or something. Seeing a lot of familiar user names and some new ones who seem to be strong posters already!
October 19, 20196 yr This has nothing to do with old jazz band or middle east sounds.. and it's great! I'm guessing the album might be a merge of all these sounds - jazz, old swing, bee-bop, big band, classical, middle eastern influences, country, as well as some honkytonk piano / western sounds with banjos and fiddles for Trouble In Town :sun:
October 19, 20196 yr Damn, after all this waiting I missed the time when the actual teaser dropped :joy: I think it sounds great but does not tell us a lot about the actual sound of the album, though (just as the AOAL teaser couldn't for AHFOD). I could imagine it being the album's intro. By the way I listened to the start of the Charlie Chaplin piece and imho only the first half of the notes sound like it. I'm not sure it's a sample, maybe just inspired by it.
October 19, 20196 yr I missed the teaser too, but I needed to sleep! Anyway, I think this teaser shows some of the sounds they got inspired from, and it is VERY classical for them... which makes me excited!! Let’s remember the rumors of it being an “experimental” album... yessss!!!!
October 19, 20196 yr Don't know if anyone has said this or not, but after hearing the 15 second teaser and hearing those strings, someone on the Facebook post said that maybe the album could be an album of reworkings of different Coldplay tracks from their past albums. Maybe the reworked songs will be the youtube videos that the thumbnails were changed to black and white and have the symbol on them? Maybe orchestra reworkings of old songs.

Was said before back when we first noticed Youtube videos going B&W. I dont personally buy that theory though. They would not have the longest hiatus in their history to just redo old songs.
October 19, 20196 yr I went to bed soon after listening to the snippet and ended up dreaming about it. I dreamt that it was part of a very dreamlike (no pun intended) track, a mixture of Jon Hopkins-style ambient music and Davide Ross's violin with Chris singing something about "the break of day," kind of like Up With the Birds. It was really interesting. If you know the song Love Is All We Have Left from the last U2 album, it was much like that except with prominent strings. I love these Coldplay dreams. It has been too long since I last had one. Loving the snippet! What a lovely way to wake up on a Saturday morning. I am still confused as to how the Arabic and sun/moon dynamic fits in :joy: Maybe this era is going to play out like an old black-and-white movie? Something like "A Trip to the Moon"? "A Trip to the Moon" wouldn't be a bad album title... That's why I'm a bit reluctant to follow all teasers, rumours, ... I don't want to have too many expectations that it is going into a specific direction. But I'm pretty confident that they can't turn this beautiful piece into a pop song. Yeah... I remember the teaser from AOAL making it sound like a psychedelic version of Violet Hill. How wrong we were, expecting it to not be much of a pop song. :joy: Im going for it being an intro, think Paradise I kind of wonder if it'll be an interlude a la MMIX or Colour Spectrum. Or perhaps something like the intro to Violet Hill. The whole thing will be a transition from 1919 music to 2019 music I guess. That'd be an interesting theme... a trip from past to present. And a subsequent record could continue the journey from present to future.

That would be cool but I think I'll like brand new songs more. Would they really spend so much time on remaking songs they already made before? And Chris said he doesn't like The Hardest Part at all so why would he make that one again if he dislikes it?

October 19, 20196 yr Chris said he doesn't like The Hardest Part I dont think it was Chris who disliked it. It was Guy and Jonny IIRC, think it sounded too much like another song. IIRC, it was Losing My Religion by REM?
October 19, 20196 yr I like your image under your message! Looks really good Thanks, im still trying to tweek my sig and avy game for the new era.
October 19, 20196 yr Yea, I personally don't think they would do that either. In fact, I would be kind of disappointed if they did. Besides, they are always talking about trying something new and not repeating themselves. Plus, I would like to think that they wouldn't hype this up only to drop new versions of old songs.

So something like the new Snow Patrol record which is made up mostly of reworked older material? I'd like to hear that at some point, but perhaps not yet... though I wouldn't be too upset if we got that before an album of entirely new music. I dont think it was Chris who disliked it. It was Guy and Jonny IIRC, think it sounded too much like another song. IIRC, it was Losing My Religion by REM? It was indeed Jonny and Guy, which explains why most live performances have consisted of primarily Chris with Will singing backing vocals. o_O
October 19, 20196 yr It was indeed Jonny and Guy, which explains why most live performances have consisted of primarily Chris with Will singing backing vocals. o_O There where I got that info from. I dont have the link for proof, but I districtly remember Chris doing an into to The Hardest Part and talking about how half the band doesnt like it and you can probably tell based on who is on here performing it right now! I believe it was during the Viva era when Chris would do the song acoustically with Will.
