I'm really optimistic about the new album after hearing this .. such a pleasant surprise i expected more of those happy pops songs but looks like AHFOD will have a dark side

 

i don't think it's a charity song .. you can tell that chris really enjoy and feel it .. not quit sure that if it will be a new single either way it's really AMAZING song

Also, I mean, Coldplay has always been among the more "tame" soft rock bands. Other than "Idiot" I can't think of a single song in which Chris swears :P

I get a sort of 50s ballad undertone in the song. You could easily slow dance to this song!

 

Crazy...I feel the same way! Not sure what it is but, I thought of Earth Angel for some reason when I first heard it!

Yes indeed, I hoped that was a closed case with mentioning God in his lyrics. Aparently not lol. Anyways, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face is a badass song where the God part doesn't sound as corny and cheesy as in Amazing Day. Well at least to me it sounds so cringeworthy there.

Eh, not really. I have plenty of friends who don't believe in God and lyrics that mention God/religion don't bother them.

 

As a sidenote, I can't see how this sounds similar to Ghost Stories. They did mellow well before last year, and the 'full' sound we heard tonight hadn't been around since the Mylo days.

There is nothing to confirm this. If it were for charity, they would have said so by now. Besides, in 2011, the band never introduced any of the new material that made it to MX as such. They played them without introduction and we put together the track list from there.

It definitely sounds Ghost Stories-esque to me.

Up in Flames also has the lyrics and vibe of GS but it's on MX. :thinking: For one thing, Amazing Day is not nearly as empty as GS, there's much more layering and guitar and violin (Rossi's supposedly bigger role in AHFOD?) prominence. Plus the article said Coldplay were on the fence about playing it there. How could it be a stand-alone festival song if that were the case?

I'm an atheist as well, yet I can listen to GPASUYF because "god" can be used as a poetic device, just like elements of Greek mythology (ex: Atlas). But where I draw the line is where there are praises/hymns to the alleged "majesty of god" shit.

Chris said the new album would be different in an interview a while back, besides, the title itself blends in well with the festival.

To each their own. :thinking: Maybe think of it as him thanking the random, chaotic nature of the universe for everything coincidentally lining up for his rare, amazing day. Would be quite a reason to rejoice considering the general unlikelihood. From what he's said about his spiritual beliefs and lyrics from songs like Yes he does seem to believe in a god in some form, though.

didn't watch the set yet, but listened to the song. certainly similarities to AIMH. a little too many for my liking. for me, it is a nice song, in a bad way. this is right up coldplay's alley. been there, done that. a little too many times. and for me, not worth repeating. you've gotta get people's hearts racing when you allude to new music from a new era! like with midnight, however disappointing it was afterwards. but remaining optimistic for lp7 :) wouldn't mind if this song goes the way of MTM (although how i wish for MTM to have been included in MX!)

Listened to it twice, changed my vote from 6 to 8. Love it.

I love the song. It's so peaceful, that's something we need right now. I give it a 9.

The song's a grower for me... Heart sank at first listen after all the hype and excitement - felt a bit disappointed that it wasn't a grander song. However now that I've had a chance to calm down and listen to it and absorb it, I feel the vibe is really beautiful and peaceful, kinda meditative as well... A good way for them to say they're at peace with the world :D
