In any case it will not be a normal album like the other 7. Chris has said that many times during and after the AHFOD tour.

I still doubt that. Coldplay is a band that doesn't like looking at it's past. They hardly even perform old songs anymore or acknowledge that they exist LOL. They would never release an album of reworkings.

 

What's possible is they use snippets of lyrics or melodies of older unreleased tracks and re-create new songs with these.

I've read that the opening line in 'Violet Hill' actually comes from a song in the very early days titled 'December'.

I wish they had a more diverse setlist that included older album tracks and B-sides as well. During the AHFOD Tour some of us ran this project to get the band to perform I Ran Away:

...but of course nothing happened. The request feature, which was supposed to be for older songs, turned out to be a joke sadly as they mostly chose either In My Place or UATW or Don't Panic lol. But mostly In My Place :D I later learnt they didn't even fulfill Mat Whitecross' wish of performing Careful Where You Stand on the C-stage at one of the shows, and he has been their friend for 20 years, so our project was doomed to fail. I really don't know why they are so averse to performing old songs...

But I think we are making the mistake of waiting for a normal album with the normal course of events leading up to it. This time it will all be different. They are telling us: 'This time we are looking backwards and will simply rearrange some older songs.'

Btw, Chris this year has been appearing alone on so many events as never before.. Could it be he is heading towards a solo career, though he often said he wouldn't go solo?

Don't remember that at all on the forum and I've been following pretty closely.

Nothing new about Natacha Atlas being involved with this album, I think it's been rumoured for a week this.

 

Really gonna be interested what all this means but I also hope this is a proper "era" where we get proper clothes, stage designs, etc.!

What I think IF she is involved... She might just read/sing the verse featured on the posters. I don't see them going Arabic all the way...

I don't know where this idea of re-recording old songs came from, but I'm pretty confident it won't be that. Maybe they'll redo some unreleased material, but it would be really out of character for them to be looking back to their old stuff all of a sudden.

There's Eastern influence on this album again, at least on the visuals we have so far, with moon and sun represented in many flags of Arab countries.

But then there's also that strange mention of Jordan, and Chris had visited Jerusalem several times. There might be some exquisite performances they have in mind in very exotic places. But then again things will be revealed once the album is out, or at least a few weeks before when we get a new single. I doubt very much Nov 22 is just a single release.

It's really interesting to hear some people mentioning reworked things. I also think it is possible because remember Chris saying being full of surprises from now on etc. at the end of the AHFOD tour. I also don't think they would do an album including only rearranged things or reworked songs, maybe a few though.

 

Someone in this thread pointed out the videos of the songs of which thte thumbnails were changed to B&W. It's possible that they rearranged this songs on a completely different way and style + there will be new songs that we haven't heard. And hopefully there will be unreleased tracks on the album as well.

 

So, I won't be surprised if they do an album that crosses the standard of a 9/10 songs tracklisting and based on reworkings along with brand new songs.

 

I don't they will let us down. Like I said before, they know how to surprise fans (I'm counting on that)!!!

By the way, I was really flabbergasted to see people losing hope already for next album. We haven't even heard a song from it and people are being so negative (about some of the producers) which I find not cool. They are just from a different world in music and if Coldplay uses their help to produce a song, it's simply what they want! You can't tell Coldplay what to do and what not to do, right!?
