Hi guys!!! Last Monday an Italian newspaper published a brief interview with violinist Davide Rossi. I'm Italian and live in Italy, so I promptly went to the newsagent's and bought the paper. In

My special edition CD came early...so it's just leaked inside my house ?

As much as i enjoyed Human Heart, i dont think it has potential becoming the new single.

Why ? - It's not that kind of material you release during summer, probably something you would give away before december with all the christmas stuff coming up.

No, my bet is we're getting something different to Higher Power. Modern and radio friendly but more melancholic, like they did with Paradise on MX. And i'm sure the next song will be even bigger than Higher Power and will definitely carry them until the release of MotS.

Just my two cents...have a nice sunday folks, cheers✌

Album announcement!

Well I hope anyway. Heh.

Starting to doubt the version that postcards are Coldplay related

Coldplayxtra said this is not related to Coldplay at all....

they didn't, they just aren't sure either. I'm 50/50 too: it's alien-themed, the hexagone appeared at their Worthy Farm performance too, the timing fits that too, and Phil was online on Twitter earlier and he didn't deny it. But on the other hand, the postcards seem to have been sent to gamers (Coldplay did partner with a gaming company recently), it all seems fairy USA centred, and Hulu/Disney+ are reportedly making an Alien TV show thingy. So I'm really not sure

Some of the postcards look a bit like the symbols that I posted here a while ago...the star, the triangle and specially the on that looks like an ellipse. And last but not least, do you remember how many they were? 12! There were 12 numbers on the phone number...I really want to believe this is related to Coldplay!

the most strange thing is that a good number of people who got the cards are not coldplay fans at all. they have never bought merch/albums/attended gigs etc.

Loving new Glastonbury songs, but they also make me a bit nervous that LP9 (MOTS) is just gonna be a loose concept like MX that doesn't fully live up to the "space album" hype. This is what I expected, but still I'm worried the album could be inconsistent.

Spoiler

MOTS Intro -- Really hoping this is longer on the album version because it's beautiful and so spacey. Reminds me of other Coldplay intros but also Arcade Fire a little bit. I see folks saying it could go into HP on the album but I don't think so. Jon Hopkins for sure produced this. There's a kind of build up of synth that happens in the last 15 seconds that feels like it's gonna run right into the next track but HP is very abrupt. So idk. I personally hope it's 1-2 mins long and runs into another track.

Human Heart -- Overall my fave bit of music from the MOTS era so far. The collab is beautiful, I love the changes to Chris's voice & how it's more of a layering thing than a vocoder thing. I think lyrics like "this gender does this, that gender does that" are a bit cliché and tired in 2021, but I can tell his heart is in the right place. This is the second song in Coldplay's catalogue after "When I Need A Friend" that's vocals only! Might you just criticize the song for sounding just like a Jacob Collier track? Sure. But honestly it's album nine, why not try something like this while bringing awareness to a really small artist like WeAreKING.

How The Era Is Shaping: Still cautiously optimistic. HP hasn't really grown on me yet. Of all the 80's inspired pop songs of the last few years, it's not my fave and I'm starting to suspect it's not gonna be a breakout summer hit like Warner Music wanted. I guess with the Alienradio teases it felt like we could get an era with some truly bizarre, spacey sounding stuff or some fun rock sounds. But our 2.5 songs so far aren't really giving me that. Production favors pop vocal production over instrumentation, just like on AHFOD and GS. Don't get me wrong... I love the weird spacy sounds and the synths so far, but when you think about "Space" records or 80's songs, most rock bands do a lot of cool prog rock breakdowns or instrumental moments. Think of "Take On Me," which has a weird synth breakdown in the middle of the song. Or how about "Teenage Wasteland," which has iconic synths and then a sweet breakdown in the middle of the track. I believe songs can still have a pop/radio friendly song but still maintain a bit of creative rock energy or sweeping saxophones (In Your Eyes by the Weeknd) or guitar solos, but HP fails to deliver any extra instrumentation outside of a tambourine. I suspect there's gonna be a song or two that blows me away on MOTS, just like on every album they've released. But worried that all this teasing of planets and aliens is gonna end up being a "heart, love, heartbreak" album with super generic lyrics and nothing related to its aesthetic. MX was supposed to tell a story, but nobody could understand it. EL teased a banjo and old timey feel on the cover, but no banjos were on the album and no old timey songs. I'd just love for them to stick to a concept, but that's just not really the band's style I guess.

Am I the only one who thinks it is similar to all your friends and O (reprise) end of GS?

What if Human Heart is a Side B? ?

That checks out in the “something odd” context.

If Human Heart is an actual track what instruments would you like to hear on it

I'm hoping for strings of some sort

For those thinking that the new album was going to be a full-blown pop record with no redeeming songs, I think Human Heart is proof enough that this era will surprise some if not many people.

I myself though that the collaborations in this album would be more generic and pandering to the public but I love these little features, which is part of the reason why I loved EL so much.

It's also interesting, because no matter your opinion on the song - the lack of other band members being one of it - I don't think anyone can bash them here for being safe or pandering, because this song is somewhat a risk - almost no instrumentals, a cappella (remember what they said 10 years ago with Rescue Street?), and a much slower place in the style of Daddy, O, or When I Need a Friend.

Like I said, I'm hugely optimistic about the new album despite how disappointing Higher Power was.

Agree, it does have a side-b, hidden track vibe... it’s so simple and intimate it could totally work under that idea...

That's right!
Also, the graphics with lyrics on the background have the Higher Power cd colors.

I even thought about the posibility of having several EPs this era, each one representing one Sphere, instead of one big album.

I don't know why that came to my mind. I'd love to have an album tho ?

Human Heart is an acapella song, but why don't the four of them sing it? They did a lot of acapella singing while working with Brian Eno. Will has a great voice and so has Guy who has been a singer for his band Apparatjik and also Jonny doesn't sing badly. An acapella song with all the four of them singing - that would really be great!

I don't know if it's said anywhere, but these number combinations on postcards definitely seem to be coordinates and form a shape over Iran. I found out in reddit that there is 6 different combinations of these numbers and wrote them with last number being after point (for example 26.7, 50.2). I mean it could be coincidence that it forms a shape over Iran, because it could be some other obscure coordinate system.. This is definitely weird, Coldplay or not.

Maybe in live

Watching the Red Nose mini-concert today I couldn't help thinking that something big is coming our way.

The boys are rehearsing a lot - first at the London Palladium, now at the Alexandra Palace...

That also leads me to think that the album is most likely done (if it were not, they would mostly be at studios and have the majority of their gear there)...

I also noticed that for today, beside Phil's filming the mini-concert, the setup was to film professionally something else...

Let's wait and see...

It looks like people are really beginning to doubt that Coldplay is behind the postcards and poster in London. But I can't think of who else would be doing it at all. Maybe it's like those random monoliths people were building around the world.

Whatever this is, it's pretty neat. Definitely feels like Coldplay because it's not too different from what they did when they teased Everyday Life. It's just awfully soon after they first launched the Alien Radio teaser site and social media accounts. And it's worth noting that the Alien Radio social media accounts have been silent for about a week. It could be that they're trying to shift the focus to the postcards.

It could be that Higher Power comes from Kaotica but these postcards are supposed to be from aliens on a completely different planet, so naturally they're giving these new teasers a different aesthetic as opposed to what they used for Higher Power and Alien Radio. ?

Redditors recipients of postcards might have finally found what they had in common - they purchased something on a website called 'iam8bit', which seems to be heaven for gamers. So it's likely to be a videogames developing studio teasing a new game.

I think we can only safely assume there will be 12 albums released. ?
