Everyone loves Coldplay, it seems, except the band's famous frontman. Andrew Murfett reports. CHRIS Martin is good at modesty — or maybe just at feigning it. Standing on a stage at Rod Laver Arena before the first of three Melbourne shows, he directs his band through a soundcheck. About 20 fans — all competition winners — are gathered near the stage, savouring the opportunity to watch at close quarters as Coldplay run through their pre-show paces. After 15 minutes of adjustments, the band launch into a razor-sharp, ear-splittingly loud reading of their track Glass of Water. The sound fills the empty arena. As the song ends, the fans applaud. Martin runs to hi…

I really hate how every magazine acts like Coldplay have essentially tried to rip off U2 or taken their style. I'm a huge U2 and Coldplay fan, and just because I understand their nuances doesn't mean I've acted like their are larger distinctions than there are. The only comparison should be success and even that is becoming irrelavent because the music business is changing so rapidly. U2 and Coldplay aren't binaries, and I can't illustrate their differences as such. But I can say that to me, U2 is passion and Coldplay is sweet. These to me are shown mainly through Bono and Chris Martin. Their personalities dictate the type of music they play. U2 is a fire an…

When I first heard Chris mentioning things like wanting to make good music for the 15 yr old fan that gets beaten up for liking Coldplay, I really didn't understand what he meant. After being at the WarChild gig and having the Killers fans be strangely weird and rude to those of us in line that didn't identify ourselves as members of the Victims I really started to wonder. Does anyone else think this is odd? Am I wrong in thinking that in America we don't have a band vs band mentality i.e. "I like so and so and the band you like sucks" As if they are competing football teams or something? Maybe things have changed since I was a 15 year old, but is…

I am not sure this has been posted before..if it has, I apologize. If it has not, here is a nice new article with small interview snippets of Coldplay in Australia... Last year, that perception began to change. By employing veteran musician and producer Brian Eno for their fourth album, Viva La Vida, Coldplay shifted their sound and delivered one of their best records, one that at least compensated for their bloated third album, X&Y. "If you listen to too many responses to things, you would just not do anything," Martin says of those who knock the band, backstage at one of their Melbourne gigs this week. "Whatever you do, somebody's not going to like it." And…

COLDPLAY'S Chris Martin has laughed off a personal slur by one of the world's most sanctimonious singers - Bon The U2 singer playfully called Martin a "w--ker,'' a "completely dysfunctional character'' and a "cretin'' on live UK radio last week, as well as a "great melodist.'' "I always thought he felt that way,'' Martin joked. "I think it's great that we're arch enemies,'' Martin said. "That's a joke too.'' Martin has long used U2 as the benchmark for Coldplay, with U2 saying Martin's band also keep them on their toes. The mutual lovefest continues: Coldplay are now playing U2's new single Magnificent just before they come on stage "as a mark of respec…

Coldplay 'just getting started' They've sold millions of albums, packed out the world's biggest concert venues, and in Chris Martin they have one of the most recognisable front men in rock. But Coldplay claim they're only just getting started. According to drummer Will Champion - on the phone from his snowed-in London home - Coldplay are about to do something "really spectacular". "We've worked very hard to get where we are, and we feel like there's a great big opportunity to do something really different," he said. It's a bold statement from Champion, who - alongside singer Martin, guitarist Johnny Buckland and bassist Guy Berryman - will perform two shows in A…

your watching tv and then all of a sudden there is a brilliant reference to coldplay and at the weekend i got two magic moments... The first one which many of u probably watched was on jonathan ross when he said coldplay were better or something or other aimed at U2...i was very ill on friday but i still managed to raise a smile The second one was even funnier. To English Football fans you are probably aware of the great Jeff stirling....English team Luton Town score a goal and he says "And luton town are now 3-1 up...i dont no how chirs martin does it, he can still have huge commitments with his band coldplay and still play for luton town" Yes thats rght Chris Mar…

It would be fun (scary?) to see how much money the people at Coldplaying have spent on Coldplay over the years. I'm mainly thinking of things you have bought that the band itself gets money from; Albums/singles/DVDs, concert tickets, tab/chord books, clothes and other Coldplay merchandise. When summed up, I think this could be a quite large amount. So make an estimate, and post the amount in $/£/€. You can easily convert between currencies here: Personally, I haven't bought that much stuff, and haven't been to concerts. But I guess CDs plus some tab books add up to about $110. So, if you dare, post your spendings! (Oh, and don't feel bad if you've spent a …

Hello fellow Coldplay lovers- I am a student at Ohio State and am a member of the activities board on campus. I was wondering what any of you thought about the possiblity of Coldplay playing at any type of university event in the forseeable future. I know the chances of this happening are slim to none, but we are the largest school in the country and therefore have the largest budget. This would not even be considered until two or so years from now, since I know they plan on releasing another album next winter and will probably be on tour again. I guess my question really is, if the circumstances were right, in terms of availbility and finances, would this ever be poss…

(I don't watch it, my mom does) I was just eating dinner, and suddenly I heard Chris' voice on the TV! It was on the TV show Brothers and Sisters... They played Fix You as some dude died, and some other character had a baby (I haven't seen the show, so I couldn't tell you any plot points :P). They played the whole thing, not even the single version :D And I just noticed how coincidental playing a Coldplay song on a show called "Brothers and Sisters" is

I don't know whether or not Chris Martin takes voice lessons, but I think that he needs to, and I hope that he does. I say this because, as of late he has been having trouble hitting high notes, and his falsetto is weaker than it was several years ago. I only notice this problem when he sings live. Maybe its nerves, or simply just over-use; I think it is important for him to keep his vocal instrument fine tuned, just as a guitarist or pianist does. I like Chris Martin's voice, I just wonder if he's working to maintain it, and keep it polished.

Eno has given an interview to an italian newspaper, Il Mattino... He said something about Coldplay: In music now there's a sort of ProTools syndrome, a fantastic instrument that allows you to have every sound available. A great opportunity, but often it produces disasters: it's like giving one thousand spices to a cokk. Trying one by one, or adding one to another, at the end you underestimate the main ingredients, the quality of food. It was happened with Coldplay. Are you repudiating the great work (just finished) with Chris Martin & Co.? No, but when i listened to X&Y, they were totally zonked out. So I took them into a kitchen ofan italian restaura…
