CHRIS MARTIN AT HOTEL CAFE, A SECRET GIG, LA
At November the 5th our Chris Martin did a secret gig at Hotel Café, Los Angeles. According to fans who were there, the night was pretty intimate.
Some Chris quotes from that night:
Vids of the night:- “Let me just preface this by saying I might be a little rusty on this one and I’m missing my band which is sad, y’know?”
- “Please don’t put this on YouTube – I know someone already fucking has!”
- “I haven’t tuned my own guitar since 1986,”

CATCHING FIRE PRESS CONFERENCE, AN INTERVIEW WITH CHRIS MARTIN.
As we all know Coldplay did write the main soundtrack, Atlas, for the 2nd part of the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching fire. At the official Catching Fire press conference Chris gave an little interview and there were some lovely chris-in-a-suite pics of the night!
The interview and the pics of the press conference:
It turns out that Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, is also a funnyman. Asked in a recent interview if he’s a tough critic of his wife Gwyneth Paltrow’s singing, Chris joked, “Very! I’m a tyrant. I say, ‘No, that note was flat!’ And I have a ruler, and I smash it on her hands, like Mozart did—it’s awful! But, she’s very good, so it must be working.”
The English singer-songwriter, pianist and rhythm guitarist disclosed that he and Gwyneth, and their kids, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7, “just moved to Los Angeles. Our kids are at school here. I find it thrilling and refreshing for the band, because we meet here and there. It’s cool, because it shakes you. You get stale being in the same place the whole time. And naturally, because we have that bug of touring, we like moving around.”
Coldplay recently released “Atlas,” their first new track in nearly two years and the band’s first original song for a movie—it’s also the first single from “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” soundtrack.
“I really like the books,” Chris said of Suzanne Collins’ trilogy of novels upon which the franchise, starring Jennifer Lawrence, is based. “I don’t know if I’m too old to like them,” he quipped. “I was just waiting for the right film and song. One time, I tried to write a Bond theme, but it got rejected by the person below the person below the person. This was like 10 years ago.”
“This song came together over a weekend and it was nice, because I knew what the film was going to be about,” Chris added about “Atlas,” which has received positive reviews so far from music critics. “The song just came through in 10 minutes. Not to say that I didn’t put any effort in. It took a long time to record.”
Being Coldplay’s lead vocalist, Chris is the most visible member by default, but also for another reason: “We’re one of those bands where one of us is much more recognizable, because the other three are shy. They just won’t do it. So, it looks like it’s one person with three other random people—but, that couldn’t be further from the truth! Our bass player is very handsome, so a lot of people recognize him.”
Chris shared, “The first time we won a Grammy, I wasn’t there. People were asking them for more sandwiches, because they thought they were part of the catering team. I’m not joking—they like to blend in as much as possible.”
“But, I would never ever go solo, because when you’re part of a brotherhood like that, when you are not a prodigy or virtuoso at music, the only thing you have in your favor is a unique chemistry,” he stressed. “We just got blessed with the fact that when the four of us sit down together, it makes something bigger than the sum of its parts. We all go off and do our own little things but it’s never quite as fulfilling. There’s something very uplifting about it (being a group). At this point, when we have been at it for nearly 18 years, it’s incredible.
“I remember when we were playing in rooms smaller than this. Now, we are playing in a stadium in Zurich—it’s awesome! And seeing the same people. There are only a few bands that manage that. So, we look up to the people who have done it for even longer. Some of the Stones have been together for a long time; U2, those four guys have been together since they were teenagers. So, it’s uplifting when you see them in a concert, because it’s like, wow, look at their journey together. The feeling of togetherness is very special.”
Reflecting on his growing up years, Chris said, “I didn’t think it was possible for somebody like me, from where I came from in Britain, to become a musician, because nobody from that area—it’s a farmland in the Southwest—ever made it as a musician. Everyone was from the North. But, there is Radiohead quite close by. That was the first time I thought, ‘Oh, maybe I am allowed to do this.’
“But, in terms of the music itself, a lot of it comes from the old hymns that we hear in church. I was playing some chords the other day, then I realized, ‘Oh, that’s a song I was singing in school assembly when I was 9!’ So, all that music, basically old school, religious music, combined with all the stuff I was listening to in pop, like A-ha or whoever it might be. There’s that rooting in very ancient chords.
“That’s why I think we stumbled upon something. I don’t know about unique, because everything comes from somewhere. Over time, we have become more comfortable in our own skin. It took us a while to become comfortable with being ourselves—that’s natural with any artist or writer.”
“I went to an all-boys school,” he recalled. “The only way to meet girls was to be in this choir. We were singing Bach and Mozart, but I wasn’t really consciously paying attention to that. I was more just looking at people—but, subconsciously, all that stuff seeped in from singing in big cathedrals.”

COLDPLAY’S UNDER1ROOF ON THE 19TH OF DECEMBER
On the 11th of November, Coldplay announced their first concert of this year, the 2nd Under1Roof concert on the 19th of December, to raise funds for Kids Company, which works with vulnerable children in London and Bristol.
This night, Coldplay will be joined by Lily Allen, Dynamo, Rizzle Kicks and the evening was going to be hosted by Fearne Cotton.
Pics from the night:Said Chris Martin: “Buying a ticket to this concert will guarantee two things: a totally unique never-to-be-repeated night of star-spangled entertainment, and money in the Christmas coffers of a charity that brings love and happiness to London’s most vulnerable kids.’
Said Kids Company founder Camila Batmanghelidjh: “When you feel happy your heart flips - Coldplay have made thousands of children's heart flip not just through their music but through their kindness and support. The concert will bring together some incredible talent under one roof to help some incredibly courageous vulnerable children who are surviving their childhood so that they might have a brighter future."

COLDPLAY’S SIXTH ALBUM ‘COULD EMERGE SOONER THEN EXPECTED’
In November, some exciting news about coldplay’s 6th studio album came out.
Very exciting as you can read, hope this will be true! :lol:An article has emerged online from Montreal-based Canoe Francais seemingly giving new information on Coldplay’s forthcoming sixth album.
The article, written in French has been translated and suggests that the album (which we currently call LP6) will be released as early as May or June of 2014, with sounds similar to that of second album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’. Read on for the nearest translation (and if you speak French, we’ll add that below too).
They are leaking out, at this very hour, several rumors on the web about the date of publication of the sixth and Coldplay’s new album, scheduled for 2014.
Some rumors from Warner Music (the new ‘owners’ of the Parlophone, historical label of the English band) speak with the insistence of a ‘highly likely’ scheduled for publication in May 2014 (or at least June 2014).
It should therefore be the end of next spring before the deadline for the release of the new album [of] Coldplay. Also because the same Chris Martin would have revealed that his hope is to get to next March with the tracks ready for the final mix, given that much of the work done so far is already [done] with satisfactory results.
The new work is coming up, it seems, without any manufacturer, as the band wanted to take care of all aspects of the recording sessions on their own. Regarding the sound with which the new album is present, a welcome leaked rumor: the sounds are close to A Rush Of Blood To The Head, one of the more loved by fans all over the world.
It must be said, however, that other rumors postpone the date of publication in September 2014, in order to avoid the simultaneous combination in the charts of the sixth album by Coldplay with two highly anticipated albums, which is scheduled for release next spring: that of the Elbow (band from UK) on sale from 10th March but, above all, that of U2, the more they confess to be released in April next year.
However, in all the offices of Warner Music in the world it is known that Coldplay will release their next album for sure in 2014. Get ready for a feverish waiting in the next few months!
MX AUCTIONS RAISE £33,820 FOR KIDS COMPANY
Again, Coldplay did charity work this month by selling their MX jackets and instruments for Kids Company. They raised £33,820 which I think we all can be proud of!
THE VIVA LA VIDA PUDSEY
This is something every coldplayer wants, a Viva La Vida pudsey, unfortunately they cannot be sold in the online Coldplay store D:
----Good evening. BBC Children in Need has launched a collection of eight very special versions of its Pudsey bear mascot to be auctioned to raise funds for the Charity. One of them is the Viva La Vida Pudsey.
Coldplay said: “Being allowed to dress Pudsey up in a Coldplay style is a massive honour. Viva La Vida Pudsey is made of trims from the actual outfits we wore in the Viva video so he's basically a band member. We hope he'll go to a great home and raise lots of money for a very important cause.”
CHRIS MARTIN AND U2’S BONO AT RED AUCTION, SOTHEBY’S, NEW YORK CITY
On November the 23th, Chris gave a little gig together with U2’s Bono at the RED auction. RED auction was used to benefit money to fight AIDS. Chris did two songs with Bono, U2’s Beautiful Day and Lou Reed’s Perfect Day.

Q. Hi, does Chris regret running in to the crowd at Sound Relief? And what did you think of it? ;-) thx.
The Oracle replies:
Well… Personally for me that was not the best idea Chris has ever had. Possibly the worst! In fact, I’ll happily regret it on his behalf. Ok, so I wasn’t there but when I saw the footage, I did think it was one of Chris’ more risky moments of spontaneity. I’ve seen Chris react to adrenalin and the heat of the moment before but this was the heat of the moment quite literally which may have explained the not too clever decision to run. The weather was very warm during the band’s set & Chris was looking rather hot by the time they got to the closer, Fix You. It wasn’t a good idea for anyone to go charging around after playing a full set. Let’s put it this way, if we went back in time, I would hope Chris wouldn’t repeat it as he certainly didn’t feel well afterwards.

Q. Hi Oracle! Just wondering who drew Coldplay’s current twitter display picture? Was it one of the guy’s kids?
The Oracle replies:
All the pictures on the Under 1 Roof show poster were drawn by kids involved with Kids Company. The twitter pic is taken from the poster and is of course a drawing of the band.

Q. Hello Oracle! Hope all is going swell with you! I had a question about a song I heard the band play live about a year ago. It was Speed of Sound at Stockholm and Chris didn’t sing the normal lyrics at first, he opened up with something else and then said “Sorry that was other one” What is that supposed to mean? Was there another version of the song?! Thank you!
The Oracle replies:
I’m pretty good thanks, Joey. There wasn’t another version of the song. Chris sang: “My mama told me when I was young, we are all born superstars which is a line from Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.
