http://consequenceofsound.net/2011/10/album-review-coldplay-mylo-xyloto/ Coldplay – noun – an English quartet that creates accessible alternative rock, glazed over with just enough sentimentality to strangle your heart. (Related forms: Travis, Radiohead, U2, Oasis, et al.) Some love ‘em, some hate ‘em. Regardless, their success is paramount. In a recent op-ed piece in The New Yorker titled “Why Don’t I Like Coldplay?: An Investigation”, writer Sasha Frere-Jones digresses: “What puts [Coldplay] up into some higher level of accessibility must be an averaging of [Chris] Martin’s guarantee to never shock or offend anyone—which parents value—and the toy soldier brand of …

I don't know if this subject has been brought up in some other thread, if it has, please don't kill me... We should all tweet/comment on Facebook/ask the Oracle for the lyrics to be posted on the site as soon as possible cause i'm afraid that if we don't put some pressure on them, they'll take their time just like they did with Paradise and i want them now :p What do you guys think?

One distinct area this album seems to lack in is adding any dark shade to the vibrant soundscapes. After three years away Coldplay are BACK! “With a bang?”, I hear you ask. Well, due the nature of Coldplay’s music and aesthetic many will say yes, they are back with an innovative explosion of colourful music. Others will disagree, stating Coldplay are back with yet another set of drab, faux-emotive stadium-fillers. Which side of the fence do you stand on? With 'Mylo Xyloto' you may find yourself unsure of what the fence was made of in the first place. The brief, instrumental opening track ‘Mylo Xyloto’ is a pretty neat introduction, with the trademark Eno-ness draped…

How Coldplay Became Possibly the First Band to Be Humanized by a Concept Album The band Coldplay has spent its career practicing one mood, over and over, and getting very good at conjuring it. The mood in question involves heroic uplift, or possibly hearts full to bursting with vague positive emotion. There's something a bit triumphalist or even militaristic about it — recall the drum-banging and uniforms of "Viva la Vida," or the band's rather bizarre and ongoing interest in revolutionaries. One tends to imagine some kind of parade where people throw thousands of flowers and miles of ticker tape out of apartment windows at soldiers returning victoriously from a confro…

Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto * * * (out of four) ROCK Coldplay leader Chris Martin has been of several minds when describing the inspiration for Mylo Xyloto, the band's embraceable fifth album, out today. At times, he has said he took songwriting cues from anti-Nazi movements, totalitarianism and '70s graffiti artists. At other times, he says this is simply a song cycle depicting two young lovers swallowed up in a cold city. Turns out he was being pretty straight: Thematically and musically, Mylo Xyloto does come across as a medium-weight and up-to-date blend of middle-period U2, the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and Coldplay's last three albums. Co-producer Brian Eno, who ov…

I haven't! I'm at school, and since I have no car I haven't made it off campus yet to buy the album. And I don't think I will get a chance to take the bus to the mall until Saturday! Is there anyone else who hasn't heard the album yet?

 Kelly Clarkson vs. Coldplay: Whose new album will be huger? Is there some sort of new feud I don't know about? Anyway, here's a hint: Yes, both artists are huge, and both have albums debuting today. But one of these parties is way out of the other's league. Can you guess which one? Yes, Kelly Clarkson still has the insta-audience that she earned from her 2002 American Idol win. She also has a history that includes at least one No. 1 album and the rather quaint advantage of actually being able to sing. Still, she is no match for Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow (aka Chris Martin) and his merry band of stadium legends. It's too soon to predict precise sales, of c…

Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto * * * (out of four) ROCK Coldplay leader Chris Martin has been of several minds when describing the inspiration for Mylo Xyloto, the band's embraceable fifth album, out today. STORY: Coldplay approaches 'Mylo Xyloto' as a clean slate At times, he has said he took songwriting cues from anti-Nazi movements, totalitarianism and '70s graffiti artists. At other times, he says this is simply a song cycle depicting two young lovers swallowed up in a cold city. I know this isn't what anyone would call a "trusted professional source" for reviews and stuff but it's a blog none the less and I have reviewed many records this year. So, I thought of doing the same with MX and posting here. Plus, Follow the complete story as it might have been intended with the concept album view point. A detailed introduction with description of all the songs and don't forget to give your rating on the poll carried out in the right hand side column. Also, comment on the review etc. Thanks! Oh, wait. HERE'S THE LINK: http://the-secret-chords.blogspot.com/2011/10/mylo-xyloto-by-coldplay.html Album Rating: **** (4/5) It’s not their “Achtu…

Johnny Buckland, left, and Chris Martin of Coldplay. The band release their new album Mylo Xyloto this week, but it got a cold response from Scotsman reviewer Fiona Shepherd. Album review: Coldplay: Mylo Xyloto (The Scotsman - 2/5) THE last time they released an album, Coldplay adopted designer military chic, a Frida Kahlo-inspired title and artwork by Eugene Delacroix. Didn’t they realise that all anyone really wanted from them was another anthem they could merrily sing along with while brandishing their iPhone (and preferably without a lyric they would have to remember)? Fortunately, Coldplay delivered on that occasion with a title track, Viva La Vida, which ra…

I was looking at the page for Mylo Xyloto on iTunes, where it says the album has been getting mixed reviews. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mylo_Xyloto Now, I can clearly remember seeing reviews rating this album a 5/5 stars or a 10/10 or a "very favorable" or whatever. But it looked like that all got deleted. Does this seem weird? It seems like people have been changing the reviews section of the page, because I remember it saying that Metacritic rated it 69/100, now it says 59/100. Just wanted to point that out. I mean sometimes you just can't trust Wikipedia.

I know this has been linked to before but I need a new thread for it (unless there already is one!) when I write in the main news :) Coldplay Call Mylo Xyloto A 'Schizophrenic Album' Band's latest album 'keeps changing sounds,' frontman Chris Martin tells MTV News. It may be their best, biggest and boldest album yet, but Coldplay's Chris Martin knows which adjective he would use to describe the band's brand-new Mylo Xyloto: "It's definitely a schizophrenic album ... it keeps changing sounds," he said. "That's why we called it such a strange thing, Mylo Xyloto. Because we felt like so many people have already made up their minds about us, both good and bad…

"The leaked version doesn't sound as good as the 'real' version." "(insert song) doesn't sound as good as the live version." "I think the end of U.F.O. is a hidden track, which will be a full length song on the EP that will include Car Kids." That is all. Feel free to add to this list please.

Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto: Catchier Than Cholera (Sabotage Times) Once upon a time I hated Coldplay, but their latest album 'Mylo Xyloto' contains a brand of non-X-Factor pop that I can't help but love. I used to think Chris Martin was a soft student spokesperson for a new wave of indie music at the end of the nineties. Full of smiles, jokes and flawless interviews, he seemed to be the antithesis of everything Liam Gallagher stood for. I thought he had removed the rebellious heart and soul of rock and roll and stuck a giant Habitat display cushion in its place and I hated him for it. I was, of course, jealous. I grew up in the same city as Chris Martin and watched …

They have been performing that song at every gig, and it has been connected each time with Charlie Brown. Makes me wonder. I loved it on Everythings Not Lost. but they didnt even sing it after ENL during glastonbury. LIFL doesnt really go with Charlie Brown (IMO). PS- i love the live version much beter than the version that was on Parachutes. EDIT: Looks like i was right... For Japan at least. and you people doubted me :)
